I can get a lock but have to get closer than I want to get a launch in parameters. Then you have to keep the lock until the missile hits. Even then, they miss a lot when a Mig-21 is maneuvering hard.

Big lumbering bombers or cargo planes are easy enough.

BTW, the new DCS Kiowa is pretty popular. My brother flew the A and C models as an Army Scout for a while and he likes it a lot. He is quite critical of flight sims too.
