alternate HQ metric
« on: July 23, 2025, 07:11:37 PM »
I've always thought that bombing the HQ to kill darbars is simply griefing.

"Yay, they can't see us, so we can roll bases with even less opposition!"

So, I have to resupply the HQ (fun!), play hide and seek to find the enemy, or maybe just log off.

Instead of the HQ turning the lights out, how about it disrupts the command structure (in a sense) by disabling base captures until repaired?

It would give even a heavily outnumbered country a chance to hold back the horde.  If the hording country does it to the low populated country, it wouldn't be much of a difference.

However, the biggest difference would be the darbars would still work and people with a flattened HQ could still find and oppose the enemy, instead of the current method of upping at a flashing base and hoping it's not just a single con at the dar circle, just setting it off to send the enemy on a wild goose chase.  In other words griefing.

It's only down for 5 minutes now.

This is the base downtime. A City at 50% would add one hour to that.

Lately HQs have not been down for any significant amount of time before the country affected will mass resupply and get it back up. Unless of course your screwed if the other team took a spawn base or close enough to keep pounding it.

I actually like resupplying these things. It's easy perks, especially when you need some, and it's stress free.  Kinda like war trucking  :rock

Removing yet another bit of strategy from the game.

Maybe we should wear redcoats and march straight at the enemy.

Instead of country dar going down...

The country that drops the HQ.  That country receives the last base captured by the country that just had their HQ destroyed.

That will stir up the war.

Most of the changes in the last decade are to satisfy the people too lazy to defend strategic targets.

HTC has removed strategy and tactics from the sim to placate the people asking for thier removal.

Spring-boarding off this to stir up action…

When HQ is dropped, all auto ack (field, town, cv, strat - everywhere) gets disabled and towns white flagged as they are. Only requirement for a base capture would be to get 10 healthy troops into the maproom. I think that would up the level of strategy and action without being a simple nuisance of no radar/Darbar.

That will finish killing the game. The exploitation of the HQ by the 49ers, proves that. As it is now, imo, the Strats are to easy to destroy and to difficult to re-sup & defend. There needs to be a better balance, not sure what that should be however.

The only thing the 49ers exploited was the lack of people willing to even make a trip to the HQ to see what’s going on there.

Had they gone to hq to check it out, there would have been multiple vehicles to bomb/strafe.

Instead, the loudest whiners whined from their one dimensional horde at the opposite end of the map.

I had my best intercepts while my country dar was down because the enemy thought they were unable to be seen.

I wonder how many man-hours are involved in a successful Strat run on average?

That's one of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard.

Unless you're actively monitoring the dar bar situation in the back field, which most players are too busy fighting along the front to do, by the time it's clear the HQ is under threat, it's too late for most players to do anything about. HQ killing dar coverage is and was always a crap mechanic.

What?  Can’t he bothered to look for bar bars?

No it’s not a dumb argument because the argument was proven correct by at least one entire squad left tje sim.

SA applies to the entire arena but the complainers were unwilling to check things out.

They were not unable.   They were unwilling.

It took me 6 minutes to find the 49ers on my first attempt and all were bombed in 20 minutes time that it took to fly rtb my fighter and bring a bomber.
I had a lot of fun bombing them down.

GV dar put an end to it but the heavyhandedness of making HQ status not matter has driven off an entire squad.

The 49ers were not evil.    They were more willing to make unusual missions requiring long sometimes up to 18 hours.

Aces High arena populations are declining because variety and strategy have are being requested removed.

I watched it all happen from both sides.

I also have no problem dealing with zero dar.

They would pork the HQ's just to grief the whole MA. Glad they're gone. Won't be missed.

Shame they tainted the name of a good squad while doing their pathetic crap. The 49ers that participated in FSO were good dudes, but their MA cohorts ruined the game for many people. No doubt they caused more people to quit than the game lost when they themselves quit.

But back to my original point: If I'm fighting at the front, I'm focused in on what's happening in my immediate area. I fly, I die, I fly again until the fight dies down, and only then do I look at the big picture. Maybe I'll see an incoming raid but maybe it's too far out to know where it's going. Maybe it's some A hole flying off the map and I don't notice it at a glance. Maybe it's just too close to do anything about it regardless.

Furthermore, if I'm flying at the front and the HQ starts flashing, I'm not going to just bail out just to attempt a intercept, especially if the 163's aren't in a helpful position. Intercepting 30K strat runners is not my kind of fun anyway. So for the same reason I don't do resup missions - it's not fun. My time is limited and I have better things to do.
