 Man you know me I'm always on edge.  Ask mrfish  but I don't think I've done anything extreme or wrong in this thread other than fight w/ FDski, but I didn't start it  he did and I refuse to let misstatements about what I've said go unchallenged.  

 Look at my last post to Fdski, I tried to be civil even though I was pissed.   Usually I'm one of the first to start the "name calling" but I've been trying to get away from that, with weazel being the exception but he deserves no more for now.     whata ya gonna do i guess.  I wonder how much of this crap goes on in the house or senate?  To blinded by hate to honestly listen to what the other side is saying,  I've been there, it's not healthy and usually leads to spiteful behavior.

 I was not clear. I did not mean your respective positions in this arguments, but comparison of you two as fellow-citizens (provided I knew nothing else of you other then one were born here and another immigrated and served in the US Army).
 You would be analogous to a draftee (willing, for all I know, to be born here but not given a choice) and he would be a volunteer. Obviously I would morally prefer him to you as a "better" citizen - if I were stupid enough to make comparisons based on such scarse data. I just wanted to illustrate that there is a lot of value to being an immigrant citizen.

 Incidentally, as an officer in the army, I would actually prefer wartime draftees to wartime volunteers* to serve with/under me in a time of war...

* guys who volunteed during wartime are very different from people with "warrior" psychological profile who choose a career of a professional soldier no matter what.

 But that's all immaterial compared to the following.

 Are you serious or just pulling my leg? I would suggest starting another thread on Heinlen as a milestone in american life but I have hard time believing you are serious.

 Well believe it or not I understand exactly what you're saying, and for the most part I agree  I've know many many immigrants in my life and you know almost all of them know our constitution better than most Americans.  They understand what it is to be an American having come from very bad countries, not all countries are bad .   I didn't serve in the army. I signed up when I was 17 but when the morning came for me to go they called me and said no more non-grads.  5 years later, after making a 98% on the asvab (not sure if it was % i don't remember how they grade the thing)  the navy wanted me bad, until I told them I only had a G.E.D.  then it was the ole non-grad thing again.  So in one since I was not allowed to serve my country even when I wanted to,  not blaming anybody I dropped out of high school not them .  But military service shouldn't be and isn't a measuring stick on somebody's citizenship.

 But my gripe with fdski still stands.  My argument with him had nothing to do with his status in our country.  It had everything to do with the fact that he came to this thread and started out with a smart assed comment and followed it up with personal insults on me, while never pontificating his stance on what this thread started out about.   I'm still waiting for his response.  Same with weazel.  

 You know,  I'm not arrogant enough to think I know all the answers.  Actually I understand that the more I learn, I learn the more there is to learn. My mind is open to change.  They (ski and weaz) come in here spouting the same old liberal crap that's been shoved down my throat for 25 years that I can remember.  Others in here know how to debate without coming across as a know it all.  I admit that I'm not one of these, though I am trying to get better at my debating skills.   I guess one thing I still need work on is not letting the other guy piss me off with the stupid stuff they say.  Notice how both weazel and ski talk about me adding people who don't agree with me to my ignore list.  They came to that conclusion without ever commenting on the subject of this thread.  LOL They call me closeminded.  There's 2 people on my ignore list guess who  and it's not because they disagree with me, that's a given knowing them.  It's because they are rude, elitist people who think they know how things really are.

Udie...I think he is refering to Robert Heinlein the Sci Fi writer and his book "Stranger in a Strange Land". This book is a very good satirical look at society and religion and is well worth the read. I found a quote by Heinlein on this book:

". . .I would never undertake to be a `Prophet,' handing out neatly packaged answers to lazy minds. [. . .] anyone who takes that book as answers is cheating himself. It is an invitation to think--not to believe."

Immigrants rule.  I have a lot of friends who weren't born here.  In general a lot harder working and more conscious of their freedom than people who were born here.  The stereotypes expressed in this thread sicken me.
