a_lazyman,

Thanks for the pronounciation help and great pics!

An idea:  Could someone suggest some (sea?)planes that could be used as minelayers?  Mines dropped in the water might remain lethal to all ships for several hours until they become disarmed.  That's how most WW2 mines worked, except they were active for weeks or months.

*****

Another idea:  Eventually, I'm sure we'll be able to be individual soldiers.  What weapons would be available?  I'd vote for the Panzerfaust (German bazooka: "armour-fist"); MG-38(?) sub-machinegun, (known incorrectly as the "Schmeisser"); MG-42(?) machinegun (the one with the bipod); and grenades.  Please help me out on the designations of these weapons...I'm not completely sure of them.  Oh, one more weapon:  a sniper's rifle.

MRPLUTO...

This forum isn't big enough to contain the infantry discussion +)

I'd imagine if we could be 'soldiers' it will be in version 4.00 of AH

"for scouting the fleet? hmmm would anyone fly them."

Sure. Perhaps if HTC made it so that if the scout (PBY) is used in combination with the mission planner that the volunteer pilot/copilot can click on the arena map on the location they spot the enemy fleet. Then the mission participants can see a "bullseye" of some sort where upon they can vector to strike it. If the fleet is damaged or sunk then that PBY/scout crew who placed the bullseye on the fleet get full share of the mission perk points when the mission is done. But they have to be alive and in close proximity to the fleet (within 25 miles) to get those. Not parked on the water, not off burning circles in the sky three grids away and not hanging in a chute after bailing from 30k :)   If they die the bullseye still stays where it was initially placed (does not track the fleet) untill the mission is over or someone in the mission moves it to bring it closer to the fleet in tracking it. But the have to be within 5 miles of the marker and within visual range of the fleet it's marking.  And perhaps only allow one bullseye marker, per fleet, per grid.  (If two fleets are in a grid then two bullseye markers can be placed but by seperate crews though.  This will cut down on low life perk point potatos who fire off thier own missions in the planner and free load on others success. It's a rough idea but it could be appealing to a lot of people.

Also?  Maybe allow it to be the only aircraft type that can resupply a damaged fleet? You know to go along with that new, more complex and realistic naval damage model we'll be getting in two weeks ;)

Or? Points for picking up ditched pilots?

So right there are three ways a PBY could be made more fun to use in the MA than it probably would be.

Otherwise it will just be a noveltry. A fun one for sure. Much the same way a lot of people use C47's to scout for land attacks ;)

I like it westy. complicated and, as it stands, prolly full of holes for bush laywer types to exploit, but definitely adds a realism factor to finding the fleet for perks.
Course at the speed it takes to create a fighter (and Im not complaining, good things take time) Theres prolly lots more useful planes before seaplanes but..... one day maybe?

That would probably be the MP-38, known correctly as the "Schmessier" It was extremely rare though. More common was the MP-40 (the German SMG you see in all Hollywood movies) incorrectly known as the "Schmessier".

Hortlund,

Thanks for the info...that's the one I was thinking of: "the one you see in Hollywood movies".

SKurj,

Yes, we need much more space to discuss infantry.  But will it really take until 4.00?  We have already seen deadly pizza-flinging giants (on the last evening of the 2000 convention).  A smaller figure with a Panzerfaust would seem the next evolutionary step.

The MiG-3 is a decent plane, but it's only really good at high alts compared to the 109F. The MiG-3U is the best of the series at all alts, plus it has 2x20mm MGs but it's a '42 aircraft. The MiG-3 has abysmal E retention and it's armament would be comparable to the C.202... maybe a little better with 12.7mm gunpods on the wings, but it's still no real gem.

To have a "good" early war planeset for the Russians, a LaGG-3 ('41 model), MiG-3 (for intercepting bombers), I-16 Tip-24 (good armament), and I-153P (twin 20mm cannon, can also load bombs and rockets- a good close air support aircraft) would be really good for an early war Russian scenario.

I've been playing too much Il-2. But Il-2 doesn't support large scale online wars... which is why it would be cool to have a (somewhat) complete early war planeset for the Eastern front in AH... that and an I-16 for the MA would be a lotta fun. :-)

If Pyro is wondering where people got the idea of a "surprise plane" in 1.09, he should reread this post. Did HiTech really say this? Did anyone besides MrPluto witness this "announcement"?

Also, I heard HT say there might be a "surprise" plane in 1.09. My guess is the Stuka
