Admittedly, I'm not the best stick in AH, however, I can hold my own. I ran into a guy I know but haven't had the opportunity to fight co-alt, co-e. Usually he or I had a huge advantage and the outcome was par for the course.
But. This past weekend we met briefly. I'm flying a P51B for the first time in a while and spot an F6F at 11 oc nearly co-alt. I see him nose down for speed, so instead of diving in, I stay level & roll into him a little. He's climbing for my 6, so I kick rudder, turn & dive for him. I get a quick snap shot with a few hits but no damage, not on the Hellcat.
Well, here is where it got interesting. I haven't reviewed the film enough to get the manuvers down but he was on me in a heart beat. All legit manuvers. He hits me, so I nose down and extend (hehe) away to assess damage. Left flap and left gear. Not too bad, think I'll climb on back up and give it another go. Nope, he's got an F4U with him now, so better head on back home.
Silly F4U wanted me too bad and paid the price. The Hellcat simply flies right on by our field, looking for a fight. What the heck, I'll follow. I eventually see him again. He just wasted a friendly (4 in all if memory serves) but there is an N1K about to go for him. A warped sense of chivalry I know, but I'm not going to let the N1K shoot him down when he's low & slow. In I go!!
I knew this guy was good but had no idea he had it down that good.
Cavalear. Ya whupped me.
