Wabbit's (I think) pointer about analyzing WHY we get shot down is the number one most important consideration.
When I do dumb stuff like the Kamikaze 1v25 I know the outcome from the beginning and I blame myself for getting into that situation to begin with. If I get two or three (specially if I get them to augger) - I am satisfied.
Oh, another thing, if you choose to fly an early model plane, I think you are making a statement about your confidence and flying skills, and should be applauded, especially when you beat superior planes and numbers. But, if you die in it, don't lower the respect other cyber-jocks have for you by whining about how unfair things were. You made a choice when you rolled, live with it. I find that a codial or gets the point across... Most times I won't acknowledge any jabs from killers or killies, unless of course my name or squad is specifically brought into it, then I try to handle it on private. I think the whole point of this game and A2A combat is to make things as unfair for your opponent as possible. If you aren't doing that, you aren't trying.
This game is about fun, but getting killed just plain sucks. If you aren't having fun, take a break for awhile.
Ultimately, we are ALL here to have fun. A little less seriousnees might be in order.
The other day one of the AKs (AKIron Ibelieve) hit me with a long range shot from his La-7. The distance was right around d.8-.9, and it hit my cockpit. Lucky shot? Maybe, but likely just damn good shooting. I was waiting for the range to drop to d.7, where I could easily wrap my SpitV around and give the Lavochkin driver some religion. That shot spoiled my plan. However, I made a point of offering a compliment on the shot on channel 1. The fact that the La-7 is much faster than the SpitV is generally a non-issue. I've killed more of them, then they've killed me. Give a Hurricane an alitude advantage and it becomes just as dangerous if not more so with those 4 Hizookas. Everything is relative. Sure, it can be all but impossible to chase down a Lavochkin if he starts with an E advantage. But, his chances of killing a well flown Spit are also very low.
During the past three tours, I have never been gangbanged by the AKs, nor have I ever seen anything that would be considered poor sportsmanship. On the contrary, I have exchanged salutes with them whenever possible. Their squadron has shot me down 8 times, and I've got them 12 times in return this tour. So, I do not understand the anger displayed. Some of them fly the La-7, but some also fly the Niki or P-51 and the Spitfires. As it is, I hold these folks in high regard, without cause to think less of them. Now, if Urchin has some personal thing going on, that's something he will have to resolve.
My regards,
