You're right that the ships from Star Wars match up well with WW2-era aircraft.  This is intentional on Lucas' part, and in fact many of the dogfighting scenes during the Death Star battle were taken from actual gun camera footage and "transformed" into space battles.

I was always under the impression that X-Wings represented P-51s, and TIE Fighters represented Zeros.

Y-Wing = Lanc

Can carry a butt load of Ion bombs, has the best shileds for any fighter (rated at 50 SPPS) but it's slow and unmanverable.

If you wanted anymore Star Wars info let me know, I have 8 Star Wars Techie books. I know everything from armor Ratios on AT-ATs to how many Jawas it takes to screw in a light bulb (none). hehe

BTW you forgot the E-Wing, T-wing, V-wing, X-95 Headhunter, and the K-wing. I'm disappointed in you.

Hey I'm part of a Star Wars Role Playing group. We usualy try to meet every 2 weeks to do a game. We just finished a mission where we captured an Imperial Starport, using nothing but a Barloz Freighter and a Yaktune-Tunarine 3B Heavy Battle Tank. COD you have no idea how much fun it was for me to drive that tank. I vulched 53 Tie fighters trying to take off, blew up 6 Duck freighters, and I also got to blow up a Comms center. Oh man it was SO freaking funny when I drove down the landing pad running down stormtroopers. made me feel like a kid again.

Bring the Yaktune-Tunarine 3B Heavy Battle Tank  to Aces High!

he's talking about good ol' pencil, paper and dice roleplaying.   ;)   sounds like he's got a much better group that I was in.  we had one session and the GM wasn't prepared for it as well as he should have been.

The new online Star Wars game prolly won't be Everquest style.  Lead designer was on the Ultima Online team.  Gonna be skill based instead of level based.   yeah yeah, I'm a RPG geek.  :p
