Why is it these yanks seem to think they know all about the UK, GB and the troubles in N.Ireland?

Lessee what would happen if the British pulled out completely......well, only last september there was an incident where children as young as 4 were stoned (yep, stones thrown at em by adults) for trying to go to school in an area claimed by the 'other' religion.  The following day the RUC and British Army escorted these kids to school and have been ever since AFAIK.

There ya go, there's our reason for being in Northern Island.  Is it a good reason?  Well that's open to debate and up to personal opinion, I aint gonna go into it here but I tell you this, if some bleedin' Mick threw stones at my kid he'd need the army to keep me off him.

-------------------------------------------

In any case, Great Britain is made up of England, Scotland and Wales.  The United Kingdom is made up of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  At no time has Eire been a part of this.

Wales and Scotland are NOT independant from England, they just govern themselves.....which is a world appart from being independant.

Now back to the point.  I'm British and proud of it so quit tryin to tell me how crap my country is.....I know already.

Well I've tried to bite my tongue but well...

I seem to recall Britain winning the Falklands war while America our so called allie sat by and watched our lads race across the Atlantic to liberate British citizens, yes Argentina is doing mighty fine. Their government has seized the people's money, their currency is worthless and they have defaulted on their national debt repayments while their President has to escape his presidential home by helicopter to avoid the mass riots. With all the recent grand talk since Sept 11th with America saying how it will seize funds of terrorist organisations and stand firm against terrorists then why has your government led by Bill Clinton at the time push Britain into releasing convicted terrorists as part of the peace process? men and women convicted of killing soldiers and innocent women and children, and lets not forget how Clinton aided the IRA to gain a political position without handing over any arms and now they even have all the rights of a British politician without having to swear allegience to the Queen and only token gestures of arms being given up while the bulk of their arms remains in their hands..what politician needs to work in this way?. America has suffered such an terrible act of terrorism in September but remember that day when the good old boys come round with the collection plate on St Patricks day and think where your money is going. There are still hardline terrorist organisations terrorising the people of Ireland and the UK. The IRA is funded by drugs, prostitution and protection rackets that still continue but the media rarely see. Perhaps one day America will have a President and politicians with the backbone to make a hard stance against such activities and not worry about losing the American-Irish vote.

So when you sit at home America and watch the Afghanistan war unfold with British troops standing alongside our American allies think on and push that collection tin away on St Patricks day

Oh and by the way our British soldiers beat your boys at American football on christmas day   :p

Revin,

We're talking of a people who devoutly believed in "the war on drugs" led by Presidents who either "never inhaled", or were caught deep in the nose candy.

Now they believe in "the war on terrorism", while conviently forgetting the massive, world wide scale America has sponsored terrorism.

Truly, we are in the age of "newspeak".

Bill Clinton???

Oh stop, will ya?

That guy was am embarassment to the Human race, much more so the American people.

As far as us standing by while you liberated the Faulklands...You needed HELP?!??!

Geez, if that's the case, where were the brits during Grenada or Panama?

These were not what I would call massive engagements.

I'm so tired of the US being the world's police force, and then criticized for what we do.

Why do the Afghanis have Stinger missles? Because we gave them to those boys to fight the Russians. Is this sponsoring terrorism?

We sponsor terrorists? I'm sure all governments do things there people would not be proud of, lest they know about it.

You want our government to walk away from world crisis, and let things unfold on their own? I'd be the first one to vote for that.

A little revisionist history, fellas. How long would Europe have stood against the Nazi's if we kept our hands in our pockets?
How many merchant marines died bringing supplies to Europe on unarmed ships?

More recently, Iraq would now own Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and god knows what else. You can also kiss Israel goodbye.

I always thought the US and Britain stood shoulder to shoulder against the world.

Now I'm starting feel like you guys are more like the French; Fair weather friends.

How many families need food and cloths over there while your queen and her family live the way they do , think they are so much better than anyone else , and do NOTHING !!

I understand why the irish hate the brits but I don't agree with the IRA or stoning children , just another terrorist group that needs to be snuffed out .

Ben is your perfect example of the brit ?  I hope not ,
that viet nam crack was a low blow . I don't think there is one family over here that wasn't affected by that useless lil war

Paint,

try research.  The British Royal family are the patrons of many charities.  Charitable donations are obviously not disclosed to the public but the work being done is readily available on many news site.

And if you tell me Princess Diana's campaign against land mines was doing nothing you and I need a little chat.....

Secondly, the Irish dont hate the British.  It's the English that some of em have a dislike for.  See above for difference between a Briton and an Englishman.

Muck don't compare us Brits to the French.
I would also suggest you don't refer to us as fair weather friends either, over here we have the courage to stand by our convictions and if we think something needs doing then by hell we get on and do it.
We don't spend months debating whether it may lose us votes and having to buy some senators onside, either over or under the table.
In fact please give me one instance when we have been found wanting when the US has needed support militarily ?
Also give me an instance when we have not been the first to offer it ?
Have you already forgotten all the running around Tont Blair has done rallying support for the war on terrorism ?
How many other countries did that ?

In short i don't even care to see statements like that even in jest.

Alright Swoop – I believe you’re in a VMF squad   :D

As far as UK/USA relations well, this is my take.  Most of the time it’s like two siblings poking, pointing, and generally harassing the other.  But when it comes down to it family usually sticks up for each other.

**Edit**  Forgot to mention I am damn glad for it too.
