question about vertical stuttering of terrain in turns
« on: July 07, 2002, 04:46:29 PM »
since a while i notice a strange effect when i fly in turns and look outside of the plane , the framerate is still high but the terrain is stuttering very much. i have tryed differend video settings but without a better result. what can be the reason for this effect?

i repeat , framerate is still normal but when i make a continue turn like flying in circles (hard & medium turning) i ever have a stuttering terrain..........

maybe you have any ideas about....

High above the fields of babylon
In one claw he holds an olive branch for peace
In the other, twelve arrows for his enemies

I have noticed the terrain and objects on it stuttering for the last couple years in AH.  I showed it to HT on a V5-5500/Pent 3-800 setup at a con, and I still see it with my GF2 and Athlon 1.4.

I think most people just don't notice it or don't care.  It makes my eyes jitter...

You guys have V-synch disabled by any chance?

Also, I always got weird problems with ground clutter turned on in the last couple of updates.  Make sure ground clutter is disabled (CNTRL-C) and see if that helps.

thank you for the answer lephturn , i am  100% sure now ,its a joystick problem or a problem of the joystick port or something.
when i use the mouse to control the plane the terrain runs totaly smooth and without any stuttering like i notice with joystick control. especially when i fly a long circle with medium g i can hold exact g level with mouse much better ( i mean without any flickering of the g-lock simulator on screen [the black screen raising when you go in g lock]).....

next i will try different joystick settings........

p.s. vertical sync is turned off anway , please tell me when you have any idea what can be wrong with the joystick ( but i have tryed different joysticks with same result of stuttering terrain in turns)

i have tryed different settings of joystick without a better result.

please do me a favor , try to fly a turn with the mouse and watch the black g-lock circle around the field of view and watch the terrain moving outside..... and than try it with joystick...... when you not have a difference between mouse and joy control your settings must be right , when not , and you see the flickering of the black circle around your field of view and the stuttering terrain when you fly with joystick so maybe you have the same effect but you dont worry with it.....

best will be you visit me at home and we can talk about .

greetings

SOLAS, do you have "poll with interupts" checked? It's somewhere in the joystick properties accessible from the control panel.

That *MAY* be it.

Are you using a gameport or USB for your joystick? Check to make sure that if you are using the gameport, it isn't sharing IRQs with anything else. Same with the USB controller.

Leph,

Vsync is always enabled on my computer after horrible results trying to disable it with my old voodoo2 SLI combo :)

I always run with clutter off because the clutter and ground details stutter so badly so it's like flying with double vision.

I also have a USB saitek stick so I might play around with USB settings or something.  The horizon stutters badly when I am rolling, so it "could" be joystick/usb related, but I've seen it with the stick centered so I just don't know.
