rubber bullets question

I have read here that HiTech has attributed rubber bullets to v-sync off. Have never seen him say it personally but others have claimed he has.

Makes no sense to me but if HiTech thinks it does then that's reason enough to turn it on if you think you should be doing more damage.

Where's the v-sync on/off switch?  And if that's the case, any idea why I didn't seem to have the rubber bullet problem with 1.09?

What video card do ya have? If nVidia then it's on by default. In fact you can only change it to off if you modify the registry, either directly of with one of several utilities available.

Thanks AKIron.  Frankly I have no idea what my card is off the top of my head, but I will check once home and see if I can figure it out and whether I can make the switch.

thx for the replys,
I still dont see the sense behind Vsinc causing rubber bullets, but I've found it is off on my machine, so I'll try turning it on.

If anyone is using a Syslink router, check out this post.  I tried it tonight and it seems to have helped me.

On a top secret newsgroup only privy to a select and elite few, HiTech answered the question of the rubber bullet syndrome.

Quote
AH Does not have rubber bullet symdrome in the sence AW did.

Changes in vsync can make the gunnery look slightly different, and hence
people end up beeing 1 or 2 hit short of destroying a plane component. Even
thow they think they see the same number of hits.

We went so far as to implenent a hit checking persmision. And every time we
turn it on , (it shows you both client hits and what the host gets) they
have always matched for some one who thought that had rubber bullets.

On rare occasion there can be lag that will delay the destruction of a
compoent. But they will either be destroyed , or you will be dumped.
This type of occurance has nothing to do with vsync.

HiTech

Hope this finally clears up the Rubber Bullet Syndrom question.

I have had several nights now where I haven't been able to hit the broadside of a barn when I've been standing inside it...  Usually my hit %age is around 12% but this tour it's hovering around 8%...  That's a big change and I don't think it's entirely my marksmanship.  I haven't changed my gameplay style but now shots that would normally knock a  bogie down don't even seem to connect.

I think there is a definite correlation between the quality of the connection and the results of your shooting.  I have had very poor connections lately, lots of lag and warpiness and correspondingly poor shooting results.
