I kill chutes; Get over it.

1. That red icon hanging in my pereferal vision is annoying and causes double takes.

2. Guy hanging in chute near a fight can check six his buddies and/or give sit rep to incoming goon.

3. I figure most of the time I'm doing the guy a favor if he popped his chute high enough for me to get annoyed and have time to make a pass at him.

4. For others, the injustice of it make them so #@$% mad,  it's too hard to resist.

5. The doppler sound effect is so nicely modeled in AH, I figure I'm giving the bloke a treat hearing my F4U turn in with .50's blazing at close range. I always hope they have Mitzu's sounds installed.

Hear, hear!  This is why I shoot chutes whenever I am not too busy doing other things.  When people stop hanging around on the ground after bailing, I'll stop shooting chutes.

As one who has been shot down in his chute, I say thanks.

Usually when I try to pop my chute my hang time is 3-4 seconds.  Either that or I go splat.  If I'm in the air long enough for somebody to strafe me, it's because I hit the 'O' way too early.  Shooting me down allows me to reup faster.

When I see somebody in a chute I leave em alone just because I know they'll be floating a while instead of quickly reupping.:D

Yep, some times old WB habits die hard and you bail and open.  Then a friendly enemy comes down and kills you and you say "thank God!" because now you can grab a new plane.  That is why I ignore enemy chutes - let them hang there and suffer :)

number 2 is incorrect.  You can no longer give a check six while hanging in the chute.

If he can chat on range channel, he dies!

Um.  Even if he can't chat on range channel, he still dies.  I just like sniping the explosive belt that bailing pilots wear around their waists.

well we could ask HT or Pyro, but isn't it more fun just to think they can use them and kill their chutes anyway? :D

I have a question:  As a chute shooter, do you think that your shooting of someones chute has no effect on their score?

It is my understanding that your score is determined in part by a multiplier that rewards X amount for bailing succesfully versus being killed.

If you shoot someones chute, you're actively denying them a large percentage of whatever perks they might have gotten for their sortie up to being shot.

Explain again why they should thank you?  Your argument is faulty.

I was flying along in my P-40 wishing that I could actually climb up to that fight at 5k and realising that I would not be able to unless it lasted another 5 minutes when one of the enemy planes burst into flames and the pilot ejected.  My chance had finally come.  I lined up the shot and tried to time it so I came into range just as he opened his chute.  I could tell he saw me coming because he tried to cut it close.  The chute opened and I opened fire... seemingly hundreds of pings found their target and I was rewarded with a fireball where a pilot had been.

Its the little things that make the game so worthwhile.
