online flight for boxed sims???

I think that both Il2 and CFS2 both support online play.  Does this mean that they have a server and u just log on.....what is online play like for either of these sim's if anybody knows????? Cost, fun...etc.  I did buy Il2 to supplement my fix for AH and I tried to log on to their website but could not do it.

CFS2 servers I've tried really sucked for lag.  IL2 is limited to 32 players.

28sweep, IL2 online is free and fun.

Online play may be entered through the Ubisoft software and they have 2 servers up, one for easy dogfight with all planes and one  that is full real and limited to 1941 planes.

There is also a coop meeting area where you can join up to 15 others in missions hosted by a player on his computer.

A better online option is to go to http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz and d/l the Hyperlobby client.

There are usually at least twice the players in Hyperlobby and  the level of play seems a bit higher.

I do not understand why you cannot log into the Ubi servers, did you install Ubi.com from the IL2 disc?

If so, delete it and get the version directly off the Ubisoft main site and it should work.

Better yet, delete it and go get Hyperlobby, more dogfight ops and better coops although waiting for a coop mission to fill can take a few minutes.

I do not go into dogfights much but I hear they can get laggy, probably partly due to the fact that many there have custom skins which must be updated as they appear and the detail of the sim is very demanding for online play, not such an issue in AH or the other one with simpler detail.

Put 32 planes, gvs, A A bursts, bombs exploding and planes going down in flames into an extremely detailed terrain and something has to give, right?

It is usually the computer.

Coops are limited to 16 players but many missions have a lot of AI planes involved so if you have less than a 1 Gig processor and 512 RAM and a GF2 or better be prepared to slow down in the middle of the action and even with those specs things can get messy.

For a boxed sim the online aspect is the best I have seen but my experience is limited to WWII Air sims so there may be a better one out there somewhere.

It ain't AH Online but it is the next best thing.

It is the only thing keeping me away from AH.

also in IL2 you must participate in 'missions' or furballs.
missions are limited timewise.  I.E. there's no such thing as a MainArena or anything.

FEllow Deuce :)

I just IL2 and all i can say is WOW frigging WOW

Graphics are awsome, both aircraft and terrain, feels like real life (almost)

Virtual Cockpit is wonderfull all thos WORKING dials switches and leavers.

Flight model is VERy Very good indeed.

I have yet to play online as i cant seem to get passed the connecting to server screen, it just stays there, dont lock up i can still click exit, it just dosent do anything.

I tried the latest patch 1.1 but that didnt seem to do squat and it screwed up my off line game so i had to re install.

But yeh, as for online IL2, itll be fun but nothing like AH maxiumm ammount of player in any 1 server is about 25-30.

You can create your own game and your PC will act as a server (so you better have decent PC with a fast internet connect)

Or you can join the other severs about, these show up in the form of ROOMS, each showing ammount of players in that room and the PING .

some of the rooms will be good, with little lag but others will be horendos, you only need one person in there with bad connect and itll screw up the game for everyone.

Im Looking forward to getting online i hope with it.

But also youl find a diffrent class of player, less involved with communicateing and more interested in there personal score card.

But great for a mindless blast anyhow.

Cant wait for Aces High to be just like IL2 in terms of graphics and detail.

:)
