What's your favorite 'underdog' plane?

Quote"Most of these planes are not underdogs. The best true underdog is the F4F/FM2."

The most underdog plane of the set has got to be the "Flying Brick", better known as the P-40. The E model is a marginal underdog, but the B model has gotta win it hands down. :D

Some may not agree, but thems my choices. :p

And just what are these 5 'Super-planes'?  Please don't say the Niki, La7 or the Spitfire IX as part  of the '5'.

You smell that? Do you smell that?
Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
The smell, you know that gasoline smell, smelled like victory.

Ok, I won't.  But I'll just say that the P-51D and either the FW-190 or F6F round out the stable.

Quick rule of thumb to identify a super-plane: check the ENY and OBJ values.  If the ENY is less than 20 - ta-da!

Not that there's anything wrong with flying them, just that it kind of takes some of the wind out of the bragging rights.  Anyone that can land a couple of kills in a P-40E is probably a better pilot than the guy that's landing a couple of kills in a Spitfire IX.

I'm not above doing some Spitfire flying myself.  Last night I flew a Spitfire V (ENY 20) with a 500 pound bomb (to assist in a base capture) and had an absolutely marvelous time bagging a P-51B (I could see the invasion stripes), an F4U (I think it was a F4U-1 - didn't see the yellow band on the cowl), and an A6M5.  I would've had a 109 (of some sort), but I ran out of gas over the ocean and he got away.

I hate to break anyone's heart here, but there are no underdog rides.

It's not the crate, it's the driver.

After more thought I am changing my "vote" to the IL2.  Getting a fighter kill in that is nothing but joyful :)

How about taking on an La-7 and F6F-5 with a SBD and killing both (using only forward guns)? :D

Lol! I guess these Dilberts figured the Dauntless for an easy kill. So, instead of using speed, they both elected to try and turn with the SBD. Bad idea. This little dive bomber is great for taking on TBMs, Ju 88s and the silly n00bs who salivate for the easy mark.

Usually, if I have command of a TG, I launch in a Dauntless and circle the task force. This allows me to get a better picture of what the enemy is doing, and allows me to determine if torpedos are a threat or can be ignored. Sometimes, I find myself closest to incoming aircraft, so I use the SBD to intercept those that I can reach in time. If there are fighters up as well, they tend to get most of the kills, simply because two .50 cal MGs take a while to shoot down bombers. Still, you get a few kills. So far, I have yet to lose one to enemy fighters, but have lost 3 to collisions, augers and friendly ack. All the result of excessive aggression. Silly mistakes, like turning too hard right on the deck, or driving in too close, only to crash into the wreck.

It's a fun little airplane and entertaining to fly.

My regards.
