wwiio 1.7 prerelease deletes c:\ root directory...
« on: October 04, 2002, 03:50:31 AM »
Man was I eager to get my hands on the new pre-release... waited for hours... delayed... ok, played the whole BF1942 single-player campaign... 4am local time --> checking wwiionline site... "TEST HALTED" - oh no! Went to the forums: Looks like the pre-release install routine deletes your root directory if you don't have an older test folder somewhere... --> many systems not bootable... woha!

Still looking forward to 1.7 - maybe doing a HD image first... ;)

its a simple fix, but your average pc user is gonna geek.

Anyhow I tried it before they shut down the servers and it looked really cool. The grass and trees while not what I would call 3d yet are very well done.

My frame rates didnt apear to be much different, but then I had decent frame rates already.

I didnt try any of the new vehicles I was too busy sneaking around in the grass.

The new bullet hole effects also added a nice touch.

That's an easy mistake to make, I'm sure.

Anyone can be tricked into putting a virus on their PC. :D

it worked fine for me and I use XP pro

It only affected a small percentage of people but I suppose if it was you it would be a big deal.

Thats why they called it a BETA

the main arena was open and it works fine.

Its strange... but I've downloaded alot of betas with alot of different problems.  I've never seen one that cleared a HD before... or even a system directory.

Seems more like a virus.

You know what they say..

you can dress a monkey a in fine silk dress , but its still a monkey.

But now CRS just spanked it hahahahahahaha.

And this "its a BETA" excuse.. c'mon , no beta in HISTORY has ever deleted root c: . CRS yet again pushes the frontier of incompetence to a whole new level.

didn't the same thing happen to WW2OL's twin sister, Anarchy Online?
