How old before you buy your kid booze? 16? Is he allowed to have friends come over to drink with him? So you're willing to provide alcohol to kids? What if one of his buddies has a reaction to alcohol and dies? What if he gets drunk and totals his car?

Manadew, expecting my child to be drug and alcohol free is hardly social engineering- in fact it's being socially responsible. If you plan on allowing your child to drink, do drugs, whatever, then I hope you never have kids.

Thrawn, what are you talking about? I don't beat my child- in fact it has never been necessary. If you assume I'm a whacked out Christian because I attempt to instill moral values in my child then I must assume you're morally bankrupt.

Airhead / Sandman I suggest you READ things instead of assumeing preconcived ideas.

Sand -I think I'll do that with my kids because my parents did it for me (just a bit beyond 21 now)

I watched some freinds around me die or end up in coma's (he's been in coma for 4 years now) the were out and about drunk because they COULDN'T drink at home.

Your entilted to your opinion, all I'm saying is isn't my opinion just as valid? soical enginnering tries to make someones opinion law.

By saying 'soical engineering' I mean makeing LAWS that say you shouldn't do these things. I think you as a parent have the right to deny your child anything to the age of 18 or until they run away;
but I don't think laws should be in place for these types of things, it should be a parents choice to let thier kids drink or even watch porn. (I'd hope most parents would choose not to let them see porn but it should be thier choice.)

I think all these things fall under the 'social engineering' area. and it always sickens me, but that my opinion .. unless you want to make it law.

Hmmm... not sure what I assumed.

Anyway... once you start raising your own kids, you'll probably find quite a few preconceived notions about it that just don't quite fit with the reality. Keep in mind that your reality isn't the same as everyone else's. Your kids won't be the same as anyone else's nor will siblings even be the same. Some of the things we've learned and used WRT my son do not apply and/or are not necessary for my daughter. Different people with different issues.

Oh... you'll start out asking your parents for advice about it until you feel competent as a parent. Then, you'll square off with them on a parental authority argument/discussion. I guarantee it.

My morals are that of the right wing religious fanatics because I don't want my teenage daughter doing drugs, drinking alcohol and surfing porn sites??? LMAO "shame" and "guilt?" Try "self respect" and "integrity," Thrawn- those are my weapons of moral teaching, not shame and guilt.

I'm amazed you could make an assumption about my religious values because I don't want my child engaging in inappropiate and risky behavior. You are the one who brought up Christianity- all I did was wonder out loud how a 15 year old could have unsupervised access to the Internet and state that my 17 year old does NOT have unsupervised access to the Internet. I don't preach, Thrawn, but I try to be the best parent I can be. Unfortunately kids don't come with owners' manuals so I'm not sure if I'm being too strict or not- but if I err I'd rather be too strict than too lenient.

Manadew, I assumed nothing- I reacted to your statement stating your desire to provide alcohol to your future children. To paraphrase, that's a stupid idea. Now you're using this thread to advocate drug legalization. That's a stupid idea too, BTW, but if I've done a good job as a parent then my child won't be a drug addict. You are right- you are entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to call your opinion "stupid" just as much as you are entitled to call me a "right wing religious fanatic" because I attempt to shield my daughter from drugs and porn.

So I play the achohol card which falls under victumless crimes like looking playboy's.
