Where will Aces High be in 10 years? I got to thinking about it today, what type of technology will be around, will Aces High have just evolved with that technology or will there be a bigger and greater MMOP for us all to fascinate ourselves with?

Just curious on your thoughts...

Think back about 10 years. Paying $6 per hour flying in a 25MHz (on Turbo) computer. Spending $120 for a 4 Meg RAM upgrade.

We have come along way. The future looks bright. :)

200 GHZ CPUs will be available in 10 years.

I have a feeling that number will be exceeded due to new technologies available in the future.

The ultimate achievement of online games will be the complete removal of people from the "real world".  For better or for worse, it will happen.  Perhaps the techies of the future will live, and work, in a "virtual" world only...

It could happen!

To be honest though, we're nearing(or maybe at) a barrier.  A top of the line machine can handle just about anythning  you can throw at it.  The main things in newer games are higher resolutions, antialiasing, higher quality texturing and lighting.  As things get better along this route, the difference made by increased CPU use goes down.  Several year old game engines still look decent with good artwork.

The interface is wearing thin.  The concept of a monitor, a narrow window into the world is really holding games back.  Expanding the field of view, and improved controls for games(beyond the mouselook/keyboard) are major barriers IMO.

Will there ever be affordable high-resolution head-mounted (stereo)displays?

In 10 years, during Jeb's second term, we will all be jacked into a 1942 sim matrix.  :)

10 years ago, the industry was struggling to break 33MHz on PCs.  Its impossible to see where they'll be in 10 years.

8 years ago WB was pretty basic.  To be honest... things haven't really changed much.  Its just prettier.

Here's to figuring out how to make a combat sim really a combat sim... sometime in the next 10 years.

I ask my neighbour Mrs. Wanda to look into her cristal ball. She saw HT forum news of 11/30/2012. Here is what she saw:

"Due to warp crash vox tail bomber gv fighter cdt bug in version 7.25 mission arena is postponed once more. But keep in touch, we have an exiting news about a next version" :)

There are some amazing Chips being researched by Intel and HP, which work on the atomic level, meaning pathways 2-3 atoms wide, resitors 1-2 atoms. So processing speed, or the capability of what a computer can or can't do will be up to its user, and/or the programs being run on the computer. All we can do is wait.

But a prediction is  the move towards "Total Game Emersion", I believe this is a gamers wet dream is to actually BE in a game. So the introduction of systems which provide a feeling of actually being in a Simulated Enviroment, i.e. 360 degree viewing glasses, hand and feet movement interfaces, a Cup Holder, and something to keep the wife entertained while I go battle in the skies over Germany.

-Bids are on-
1- Viewing System (how the "virtual world" is presented to the user)
2- Voice Commands, not just voice com. between users but voice commands to the computer i.e. you say "Move Airfield 64" or "Goto/Join BlckMgk"

Whatever the next 10 years brings in Computer gaming the only thing that's sure is that we'll be doing it in flying cars. ;)

I'd be satisfied with an affordable, triple-LCD screen display and 3 monitor support in the game.

I'd like IL2-style graphics (esp. cockpit graphics) and damage modelling, with every significant fighting plane that saw combat from 1939-1945 modelled, along with accurate terrains for every theater of combat.

I'm anxious to see the Mission Theater concept fleshed out.   I like the idea of an open-ended, branching campaign like the CAP folks are doing, but I'd like to see it played out constantly in the Mission arena rather that event-oriented.

Hopefully it'll take less than 10 years to reach this!
