Bikes, like guns, are extremely unsafe, and easily hurt more people than guns per year.  They are something that one certainly does NOT NEED, so in the interests of good social behaviour the UK has chosen to ban all motorcycles.

Sorry Swoop, have fun on the "underground".

Honestly, why don't you get yourself I nice spanky CBR, since Honda's are such a superior machine.  :p

Yeah those R6s are sweet. GSX-R600 are well balanced but I think they lack a bit of power. At least the models that  I have ridden, not sure about latest models. I would go for a 750 or a 1000. Then again you live in damp England so maybe a light R6 is the way to go. I would take an R6 over a GSX-R600 anyday, especially with wet roads etc...

Theres a new Honda 600 out, not sure about it as I have not ridden it or read  anything about it yet. Looks nice though.

EDIT:  GSXRs are very hard on your wrists, not much of a town bike. R6s are much more comfortable but that front windshield is too small. Lotsa windage on freeway.

K1 Onwards GSX-R's are a big improvement all round especially power then the previous 2000 models. With the new K3 models coming out soon there's alot of specials sure to be otw on the old K2 stock which would defenitely be a good bargin.

And yes the 750's are a blast, though I think in UK insurance is the big cost hence 600's are most popular. I'd hate to think what a 1000 would cost to insure over there it's bad enough at a grand (NZD) a year in NZ.

With this motorcycle, one can climb trees.

Ok, looked into GSX-Rs.

Suzuki list price for a GSX-R600 K3 is 6,299 GBP (and there's no sterling sign on this cheap bellybutton work keyboard).  No-one's doing deals on them, not surprising.  A few dealers have K2s left but only in blue and white and the price wont go below 5,897 cos that's apparently 3 pounds more than Suzuki wholesale them at. Hmmmm.

So the saving on a K2 is only 400 quid and they only come in crappy colours.  One dealer has a 3 month old preowned black and yellow K2 but wants the same as for a new reg.

However.......the K2 is a sweet bike and has fuel injection, which the 02 R6 doesnt have........

And what's more all the 02 R6s on offer are red and white........and the 02 R6 red/white was a really horrible more - red - than - white scheme that I dont like much.

The only other possible winner here is a 3 year old R6 in blue and white with 12,000 miles on the clock for 4,200.

Now, can anyone explain what Senna means by R6s being better in the wet?  I wasnt aware of any talk of GSX-Rs having a problem in the rain?

Swoop, buy a Ducati Monster 900cc :)

Or a Ducati 916.

Not the faster, nor the safest, nor the power, but..

Pure style!

Goldwing's are very gay. You might as well buy a car if you want all those 'luxuries', such as seats.

Fortunately, I think you'll be getting something a little more suitable, Swoop.

How much do you pay for insurance Swoop? Per month. How much would a 600cc cost me in insurance given I'm 24 years old, and assuming I could pass my test?

I've always wanted a bike, but I'm scared of the SA of your average motorist. There are some really stupid bar-stewards out there.

Dowd,

I'm 29, have the biggest no claims discount you can have, all the premium reducing security devices (not that they helped) and I'm also a fully qualified motorcycle instructor (but there's more money in IT).

R6 was 600 quid a year for TPFT.

Get a bike NOW and get it insured, even if it's a non-running 50cc scooter that is just gonna sit in the garden going rusty, your no claims bonus will be growing.  At age 28 premiums drop quite nicely so unless you win the lottery get something smaller and cheaper for the next 4 years.

Also.......forgetting about third parties........your first couple of years of biking are when you make most of the little mistakes that cause ya bangs, scrapes and scratches.......so you want to be on something that sliding down the road wont hurt the resale value too much, if you've bought 12 grands worth of 916 and lump it into a crash barrier during bad weather you'll wish you'd bought the 250 quid Z400 instead.

Oh and I highly recommend police advanced rider courses.

Why not go up to a 2002 R1, house mate races one, he used to have an older R1 and a R6 for last season but way prefers his new R1.

Probably not to good for comfy distance though, but you can easily solve this by going faster so you spend less time on the bike, mmm maybe not as thats what my other house mate did on his ZX-7R now hes got a VW transporter, oops, that bike was poo anyway  ;)

Blank, no point.  An R6 can already do 160mph and I never got the opportunity very often anyway.  The insurance group is higher and the pillion seat is even less appealing than on the R6.

And the R6 goes round corners way better than an R1.

Faulty electrics maybe? I don't think so. Wet weather performance is all about tyre choice. Unless your Haga himself and getting into the chassi, suspension side of things as well, which I don't think your going to discover on the M1.
