All new strategy for 1.03

Hidy killas,

AH is speeding along, ain't it? Seems to me that squad strategies will have to change with version 1.03. The main difference to me would be the new field defenses...

"The generic ack has been replaced with multiple types including high alt flak bursts. Light and heavy MGs, 20mm's, 37-40mm's, and 88's are now represented with their own characteristics."

High alt flak bursts will make bombers squirm. They will also allow fighters to climb out to a fair alt inside their cone of ack. Vultching before destroying the defensive guns is gonna be tuff duty. MG, 20 and 40mm's will make short work of you if your hit. Now if HTC give's us a vehicle with an 88 attached, look out above!

"Enemy tank icons no longer appear when you are in vehicles. When you're in a plane, enemy tank icons only extend out to 1500 yards. Far range dots on vehicles are no longer displayed."

Things are gonna get interesting on the ground. Armor wont stick out like a sore thumb in 1.03. With each improvment, HTC moves another step closer to the strategic battle we'd all like to see. Treadheads have to be stoked about this new way to play.

"There are now hot refuel/rearm points at airfields. These allow you to refuel/rearm your plane while continuing the same sortie. They will not repair damage."

This protends the final piece of the puzzle. Active airbases are the 1st step towards "limited life/vehicle" scenarios. Soon, the terrain editors will be giving us Pacific arenas, and HTC can add carriers, and all the other naval toys we desire. Battles fought in these places will make for some fun times, won't they?

Anyway, seems like a bunch'a fun is otw killas. Hope to cya up...Braz

You forgot to mention the APC's - which I think will have the most profound affect on strat. With this, the ground war can develop from scattered demo groups into self sufficient, mission oriented forces that finally pose a serious threat to a field's ah... sovereignty. Or something like that.

It should be interesting.

That means that the spawn points will be very hottily contested.  One of the first things that will have to happen to take a field is to take out them damn 88's.

Also attacking the Strategic Targets will have a greater Impact.  What good will and 88 Be if the Ack and Ammo Factories are down?

Things to think about.

I guess we are moving closer to WAR!!!!

I really like the idea of troop carriers.

We'll have to run low alt patrols

As long as we have 300 mph tanks shooting down airplanes, I will continue to ignore ground vehicles.  Is this a WW2 sim or a "fantasy war joust thingy" sim?

unless the speedy vehicles are gonna get fixed we will see this in the buffer at 1.03:

CapPilot:Ack up A27 in 1 min, where is goon?
SYSTEM:Victory 1 by Interceptor
Goondriver:dead, grabbing M3 from V56.
SYSTEM:Field 27 has been captured by the pawns

Smoke shells... yay... Since if you're attacking a field with pnzr's they mostly take up F4U-Cs or Tiffy's which aren't the easiest of planes to take off in.  Put a couple of smoke shells down the runway and wait for them to crash into the tower or whatever!!

I'd definitely love to see Mine-fields at some point, more so for V fields.

Tanks should have the ability to load as part of their ord anti tank mines. Then be able to
"Plant" them in strange & devious places.

Such mines would of course once activated not tell friend from foe and kill anything that triggers it.

The problem with mines is that once we've all laid down our arms and gone home, innocent children (playing on the slopes and valleys of the AH terrain) will lose life and limb to these mines...

Seriously, I think that it would not be fun to drive a tank for 30 min., and have it all end due to an unseen mine.  Perhaps if there was some sort of marker to let you know mines were near, and you'd better find another route.

The other problem is that eventually there would be mines everywhere....however, this might resolve the ditching-kill issue

Ive read one account of a tank shooting down a plane in  ww2. That tank was comanded by tiger ace  wittman. Hope its alot harder to hit a plane next patch. 300 mph tanks if thats the case some how there's got to be a better way.        Giggles<----2weeks

MINES?  its hard enough to get where ya want to go without the distance, hills, and aircraft slowing you down or killing you where ya stand.  Now you want mines to add to that, just get rid of the ground attack vehicals then because there would be nothing they could but get shot at.
