Hi All.

Does anybody know if more jet planes will be added to the game?
Planes like British Meteor, Mig 15,17
F86, French SuperMister, Vampire

Later jet planes maybe?

WarBirds are planning to add Korean War Planes,
does Hitech will do the same or they work on WWII planes
only?

Andi, and you have the right markings to boot! VF-24 and 211 are the bomb!

Verm, I'll take you up on that. That would prove a very good fight, the MiG-19 has excellent thrust compared to the MiG-17 yet more maneuverable than the MiG-21. So what has you thinking sooner than later? Inquiring minds are dying to know what you know.

VF-211 "CHECKMATES" is my favorite. They were the top scoring Crusader Squadron during the Vietnam War with 8 MIG-17 Kills.

Andi, it's them Crusader pilots that taught everyone BFM during the Vietnam War...USN and USAF included. Too bad that by 1972 the Crusader squadrons still in the theater were relegated secondary roles that would provide little possibility of MiG encounter, or else that score would have continued. I believe, off the top of my head, only VF-96 beats out those 8-kills with 9-kills, and VF-96 were there from day-1 to mid-late 1972. VF-211, that's my bird!

VF-96 "FIGHTING FALCONS" had 10 MIG kills (Confirmed) during the Vietnam War - 8 MIG-17's & 2 MIG-21's. 5 of these kills were by one crew - Lt. Randy Cunningham & LtJG Willie Driscroll.

All of VF-96's kills were in the F-4 PHANTOM II. VF-96 got it's first kill in 5/68 - almost 10 months after VF-211 got their last kill.

Agree - once the Phantom's came online with the fleet the Crusaders flying from the smaller ESSEX class carriers were relegated to Flak Suppression while the Phantoms got the MIG CAPS & TAR CAPS.

Like I said, it was off the top of my head. So you counted 10...it's really 11 because now they do count that ChiCom MiG shot down in 1965 under really mysterious circumstances. Well, actually, what's mysterious is the loss of the F-4 which may have been downed by another F-4.

Another issue with the Navy squadrons getting kills were the tactics of the Vietnamese themselves. Evidently the Vietnamese prefered to engage the Air Force strikes with their better fighters and more experienced pilots, particularly during the later Linebacker campaigns in 1972. Leaving the ground based air defense systems to deal with Navy Strikes.

This was due to the advantages the Navy had over the Air Force. In particular the ability to steam the Carrier Task Forces farther north, giving the Navy planes more endurance and the protection of a SAM umbrella to run too if in need.

The Vietnamese felt that they got more "bang for the buck" you might say for committing their fighters against the AF since they had farther to fly. Even small amounts of damage were more deadly, and it was even possible to engage them and run them low on fuel, risking crashing the planes later.

Being able to go "Feet Wet" was a huge advantage for the Navy pilots.
