Well I am willing to sell the rights for the squad name "The New Baby Harp Seals" for $50.

Or if you don't want to buy I can set up a lease.
I have been reborn a new man!

Notice I never said a better man.

Chill! First of all the squads are in 2 different countries. Secondly the "squad identity" does not come from the name, but from the actions of that squad. If you're good, people will know. If you present a positive presence in the arena people will know.

My handle "Tahgut" is prevelant in the arena in its different forms. Targut flys for the Nazgul, and Target has been in AH for quite some time I understand. The people I flew with in AW-FR know me as Target or <TGT>. I know quite well that I must reestablish my identity here, and I plan to do that as soon as I stop getting killed so often. I guess the point is that my actions will do much more to establish my identity than my handle. <SALUTE> to Targut, Target and all you other T-words.

Big difference between a handles that are relatively the same, and a squad name that is, IMO.

When my squad came over from Airwarrior just recently I made sure that our old name of 416 Lynx wasn't being used. It turned out that it was, and decided it would be in poor taste to duplicate it in game. It doesn't matter how long the new squad has had their name, my squad probably used the 416 Lynx for longer than the AH squad has, and we even have permission from the actual 416 to use it. Us AW squads are the new users in here, and all seniority we built up in the other game is "gone". The problem I see in all of this, is that the term Nighthawks is as common to flight sims as the username Maverick (no offence to any Mavericks in AH of course). You'll not go a day without seeing the words "night, hawk, black, death, etc..." floating around in squad names over and over and over.

Just put "WE BAD" at the end of your squad name again, then no one will get you mixed up  :D

Just my two cents here .. the AW NightHawks squad has formed here with the name:

    VA-185 {NightHawks}

The AH squad name is:

    VFA-136 <==NIGHT HAWKS==>

That is what will show up in the kill message macro. Personally I think its enough for most people to be able to id who shot you down  .. the VFA-136 or VA-185. Especially since they are flying for different countries.

As for reputations the AH squad already has one here. The AW squad spent three years with the NightHawk identity and understandably would be loathed to throw out all of their history as would the AH squad if they moved onto another SIM.

I think you are making too much of an issue out of this but if you need more distinction between the groups besides the different numbering and such .. why don't you have one squad put the NightHawks first and the squadron number next, and the other squad put the squadron number first and Night Hawks next. Also maybe change the squadron numbers from the 185th and 136th to something like the 301st and 136th.

As I said I think minor changes like that will allow you guys to have enough of difference to allow the rest of us to tell you apart when we get shot down by you. Plus, flying different countries help.

Would you have the same problem if a squad forms with the name JG23 Night Hawks or 356 Sentai Night Hawks?
Just my two cents.

P.S. The other Nightmares VMF-101 squad is a second wing of my squad if you are wondering. Plus previously there was a VMF-525 Nightmares Squadron back several months that has now disbanded. We never had a problem with being confused with them .. they were the 525th and we were the 101st.

My vote goes against these new Night Hawks. I just don't think comin in here and usin th name of an already established squad or player is kosher. And I don't think changin th spellin a bit makes it alright.

Show some originality. Think up a name that's not bein used.

And yes I am biased. When I came up with my handle back in AWDOS I made damn sure there was nothing similar in use. Had there been someone using Buzzard or Buzz I would have thought up something different. When I came here to AH back in March I did the same. Had someone been using Buzzard  here in AH I would have found a new handle even though I had been using it for 10 years. It's a respect thing.

Apparently though there are an ever increasing number of folks taking up flight sims who either have no imagination or no respect for the people that got there first.

Sorry for the wall of text but this is one of the few subjects in online gaming that actually pisses me off.

These guys are from AW, i wouldnt want them to have to change the identity they have had for the last 3 years becuase they have "NightHawks" in there name, thats just rediculous. Its not like "they stole the name".

I do heartily disagree. I'm from AW too and I was there a damn sight longer than these guys. But the key word is "from". This ain't AW, it's AH and someone in AH was already usin the name. A bit of common courtesy no larger than a mustard seed, a slice of respect as thin as the proverbial red  bigtoe hair would mandate a new squad name IMHO.
