Couger,

I understand your feelings.  I am positive beyond a shadow of a doubt, That this was NOT intentional.

The AW NightHawks are coming over as a Squad.  They are not here to upset folks. They are a nice bunch of guys.

I Suggest a comprimise.  Cougars Bunch Should keep there name the way it is.  Its Great  :D

The AW Nighthawks should Modify their name enough to be differnt from you. At the same time keep thier Identity

Would something like
"NtHawks Fighter Bomber Group"
Be Good enough???
Would this be a valid comprimise?

Its Very Differnt, But they dont have to Trash their heritage, WebPages and Logos.

I think its the Adult way to handle things.
Comprimise.

If you really want to change your squad to Cactus Air Force, That would be Great  :D  We can always use more CAF in the Air  :D  hehehehee
Seriously, We have plenty of confusion from the Canadian Air Force, Confederate Air Force, CheeseHead Air Force, and any other CAF.  The Good thing is we have the Blessing of Really Cactus Air Force Guys.

The Real CAF was a group of mismatched pilots based at Henderson on Guadacanal during WWII.

Gunner then what we need here is 5 individual to go out and start a squad with the name cactus air force. I take it will be all right with you having 5 different squads flying AH with your squad name. Am I correct in saying that this would be all right with you, gunner, I would like to know from you if this is acceptable.

Thanks, that explains a lot  :)

Why not just call them AWNight-Hawks? or something else close but obviously different.  See other people's posts above for more suggestions.  Just a thought.

Dumb question.
When signing up here, I checked the roster of squad names and saw many duplicates and variations of ours. I just checked again.

According to the definition being toted here. 1 or two word variations shouldn't be allowed. So should all the VMF's, 13th's, Damned, Marine Air wing, Jagdgeschwader's, 5 GvIAP VVS-KA's, 332's,Flying Tigers (with and without the "The"), Nightmares and Nights that say "Ni", all change their names? From what I saw, they where all here before the influx of AW folks.

The other question is if these duplications have been around for so long, why squeak about it now? Everyone is so concerned and heart broken suddenly about these duplications that from what I can see have been here for some time.. Colour me confused

AH been here for bout 2 years..
AW was around for MANY.
Question.. How many AH squads where based on AW squads that the members recreated here?

I would never in a million years have thought of any of these names had I not seen them in AW many years ago.

Can't anyone play nice?

My vote is the new guyz keep thier squad name, mostly because of thier forethought in excluding a dorky motto like WE BAD.   :D

As flight sim communities merge, this sort of situation is going to keep happening.  Rather than squeaking about it why not just learn to live with it?  After all, a squad which has been established for a few years in whatever sim they fly, is not going to suddenly change it's name because it is similar to another one!

I used to be a member of the Black Sheep Bombers in AW3... one of several "Black Sheep" squadrons there.  It never caused any problems, as each squad had its own unique 'look' (ours was -o-x{BS}-o-x ).

Now if a squad was to copy your name exactly and claim to be the same squad, that would be different - but in most cases, similarly-named squads will be just that!    :)

Hiya's,
Phew i saw Hawks n felt i best post about our squad having hawks in it
After looking at all the other squadnames that had been taken we kinda came up with our Dragon Hawks from this.....
Dragon as in fire breathing winged creature and the hawks also because of its winged and menacing looks
So dragon hawks it came to be for us purely because of the nice mix of the two eg fire from the dragon and hawks as in a talloned bird of prey

Hope this causes no ill feeling

Have Fun

OK, I'm posting because wizzer asked me to.  We are the Flying Tigers AVG from AW.  We started in AW about 7 years ago as a TEAM, and have overcome several "changes" from EA in the AW community.  We decided as a TEAM to move to AH.  When we did this we (my XO and I) were concerned with taking the name of the Flying Tigers to AH knowing there is prolly a squad with that name in the arena already.  What we found was 2 squad names like that already.  (there were 3 squads in AW with this name too flying in different arenas) We have a web site that is under a re-design www.flying-tigers.org  and have had that domain for at least 5 years if not longer.  When we first came into AH wizzer had asked me to change our squad name.  I noted that there was already more than one here with that name, and that was irrelivant to wizzer.  We named our squad a long time ago because of the TEAMWORK and credo the real Flying Tigers had pre WWII in China.  It is a tribute to the real men that flew there, and they are the real owners of that name, we just use it.  I don't plan on changing our squad name.  If we were a brand new squad, there may some credence to the request, but we are not.

In 1994 I started playing AW online.  I chose my ID as Seeker and there were no others with that ID.  In 1995 I did beta for Kesmai for AWII, and again a couple of years later when AWIII came out.  You will find my name and my handle in the credits that scroll as well as in the manuals for those products.  A couple of years ago, another Seeker starting flying AW.  He's a great guy and I have even winged with him.  He is now in AH and it seems I have moved in with his handle (he was here first).  He hasnt asked me to change my handle here but the point is we have always been able to respect each other and just have a good time.

I say Hail to the AH guys that have been here, Hail to the AW guys that are coming here, and Hail to the Real Flying Tigers that flew in China.

We welcome the opportunity to gain new friendships in AH as we have done for so long in the AW community.

It will be a while before our team has the skills to be any match to any of the AH flyers out there, and we say, kill us while you can.    :D

Salute!
