copy kat of squad name in poor taste

Well it seems simple enough for me,

There is a squadron here called the NightHawks...who cares how it is spelled and what fancy [{+)***<+---- stuff you surround it with.

The "first" Nighthawk squad can either look at the name and say "Hey...no problem"

OR

The first NightHawk squad can say..."err excuse me..Can you please change your name because it is just too similar to ours?"

The "new" Nighthawk squad should respect the wishes of the others and change their name.  If it is really that important to you, join the NightHawks that are already here and making a good name for themselves.

If this still doesn't make sense, rumor has it that AKLarry/nimitz is a lawyer who is looking for a way to pay off his bills.... :)

I'm sorry, I disagree with the majority in here.

Yes, AW was a different game, but it's pretty ignorant to ask them to change something they've had for a while. It's not malicious intent on their part to ruin the NightHawks reputation. The would-be imposters of the DHBG is something completely different.

I've never played AW. I don't care about it's death (except for all the new faces here) and I hardly care about it's community. However, if 'the 100th FBG 'Haze' came over from Warbirds and there was another 'Haze' squadron here, which there is, I would certainly want the 100th to keep their namesake.

All this talk of dweeb hunting shows in bright colors why there is a division between the new AW'ers and the AHers.   :(

Lighten up. Cougar, I'm sure you can come to some sort of agreement. No, not a squad duel, because that's just silly. (what if you lost?) But moving the VMF or squad name around to show a suitible difference would probably be the best ending to this situation.

Hehe, you asked them to change, they said no, end of story, move along here, nothing to see  ;).

Ask ROC about his and my discussion when the BadCats of RR AW, whose uniform had historically been brackets <xxx>, moved to FR AW, where my Squad had the history of CPID brackets.  I asked him to change, he said no, and that was that.  We laugh about it now  :).

I know, I know, this is AH, not AW, but the same holds true here, and a million other different versions of similarities.  Live with it, it's only a game, we have bigger fish to fry  :).

Cya Up!

This isn't AW.
My vote is for the 'new' night hawks to change thier name.. heck.. maybe even to

"The New Nighthawks"

a mere space in the spelling doesn't work IMO.

or.. for Creamo and the boyz...
Fat Skunk Rat-turds
Rat Funk Ass-herds
etc etc..

it'd be a drag to see this kind of thing start up...
The 'noble' thing is to have a UNIQUE identity.

It's almost like a new person at work saying something like: "well.. in my old job we did it like this..."   just never works.  Time to try something new at a new place.

( I just couldn't bring myself to agree with skernsk... but he's right... ughhh)   :)

Why not just change Both squads names? '

The AH NightHawks for the guys here first.

The AW NightHawks for the guys that came from AW?

I think we will all know the diffrence. Especially after reading this post.

There has to be a middle ground and we must all at least try to get along. If we can't then I say the two squads should duel and the winner gets the name. I know if some squad started using the MOL name then they would have to back it up if they wouldn't change their name.

LLB OUT!!!!!

kind of off the subject, but then again not...  i was wondering how long it would take for the introduction of the "other" sims' players (and NO...i'm not saying anything bad about them as players...just stating an opinion or whatever) to start causing problems like this.

IMHO, i think they should change the name, or HTC should do it for them.    :p

it's the same principle as not being allowed to use the same name another player has (or HAS had).  things would get rather confusing if there were several of us running around with the same name, wouldn't ya think?

What he said...

I wished that maybe they would have even asked to join with us possibly.

Although it really is not that big of a deal. Eventually one side will want a little more individuality anyway. After they learn a little more about the NH group they probably will quickly change to another squad name.  :D

P.S. I am little worried because lately I've been drinking a whole 12 pack of beer in the evening while playing AH. I've also had burning desires to shoot chutes. After bailing the other day I landed in the middle of a small sheep herd where I proceeded to....

Maybe I need to talk with the flight surgeon?

the AW NightHawks squad has formed here with the name: VA-185 {NightHawks}
The AH squad name is: VFA-136 <==NIGHT HAWKS==>

Being an ex-AW myself I can understand a squads desire to have a unique name AND understand the deire to maintain the history of a squad moving from one sim to another.
But as I see it these two Night Hawks are not the same when you look at the ACTUAL squad names (please refer to the quoted text above).
In my old squad (The Cutthroat Mercenary Company) back in AW we had an upstart squad try to copy our name EXACTLY.  We were naturally annoyed by and asked them nicely to change.  Answer: NO.  We asked again: NO.
We then put bounties on their heads (it was something unique to our squad and many people in the AW community rather enjoyed trying to collect the various bounties  :) )
After much harassment they eventually changed their names to the Air Pirates.

If the two Night Hawks were totally identical I could understand the old Night Hawks being upset but as has been pointed earlier in this thread there are many squads with SIMILAR squad names but not identical.
Let it rest and be happy that this community identifies you as the first Night Hawks to AH.  :)

Now this was one of the best handled situations I've ever been involved in.  <BFD> and his gang do have some class, and I look back on those days fondly.

I received an email from <BFD> regarding the fact that his squad noticed our move to FR and would we consider changing our handle.  I did think about it, as he noted he had worked quite hard building a solid reputation, and wished to keep his identity.  I replied that I indeed fully understood the desire to keep the identity, as we had worked so hard to build ours as well.  Both our lights went on at the same time realizing we were both right.
Our reputations were both solid, his was the guys getting the kills, our guys were the ones getting shot down all the time, and I don't think it was confusing at all.

Bottom line for both of us, in reality, we knew who we were.

Now that we had such an open dialog, it became most enjoyable seeking out each other and getting into some of the best all out dogfights I have experienced.  BFD and the gang have turned into one of my most respected groups, and I greatly enjoy the fact that we now fly together on the same team in AH.

The most fun, however, was after we began chatting regularly, and he relayed the information that some members of his squad were offended at one of my players names,
< SOB >
This, I found quite humorous, and I responded with Dear < BFD >.....you can see where it went from there lol  :)

It's a name.  Work for it, keep it, protect it, and allow that identities can sometimes overcome similarities.
ROC
Nothing clever here.  Please, move along.

I don't see anyone copy cating, stealing names, or stealing logos.  I don't think that copy cating or stealing is right.  It looks like two established squads have the same name.

It looks like MGD's squad is trying to be considerate by modifying their name as it apears in the game to avoid confusion.  I think this sounds like a good compromise.

MGD and the NightHawks are a great group of people and I am glad to see them in AH.  Starting out the thread by calling them a bunch of theives is wrong, and not a good way to welcome them to the community.

Welcome MGD, Wild, and all the VA-185 NightHawks!

Gunner then what we need here is 5 individual to go out and start a squad with the name cactus air force. I take it will be all right with you having 5 different squads flying AH with your squad name. Am I correct in saying that this would be all right with you, gunner, I would like to know from you if this is acceptable.

How about the Day Owls!!!

It is a tough problem, but there already was a established "Nighthawks" Squad.  Taking the name is not very neighborly like.

But that is someone else's problem!

Good Luck with you delemia!   :)

Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.

Cougar, the point he's trying to make is that they are an established squad. You keep making this bridge between them just moving here and them stealing your squad name. I don't see how you do it. Of course in the scenario above, yes, it's very wrong and not acceptable. Those rules don't apply in your case.
