copy kat of squad name in poor taste
« on: November 15, 2001, 11:19:00 PM »
When we first come into aces high your not allowed to take another person call sign, the same should be for squad names, after being here for nearly 2 years and being part of the community, the night hawks have endured,I talk to the new member from aw who just sighed on to aces and started a squad name night hawks, I talked to there CO MDG4me and he assured me that he would change the name, now he said he will not. I feel this is in poor taste, what he doesn,t understand this hurts us all we all have our own different squad personality that contributes to the game as a whole, all that the rook squad who now called themselve night hawk did was open up the whole game to anyone who would want to copy kat a squad name, can you imagine 5 different squad with the name assassin or 6 with the arabian knights. or 5 calling themselve fubar. We no longer have our own personal squad names. there is no reason for squad names to be the same. will the rook squad who CO is MDG4me consider changing the name.

well,

not to play devils advocate, but if that was their squad name in AW, i can see why they'd want it here.

it sounds like they're not trying to steal your name from how you worded it.. hmm, maybe you guys should form 1 large squad?

Yeppers, Couger, they need to change their name.  :(

Don't know why HTC doesn't forbid this in the first place.  Permitting it causes nothing but hard feelings.

In AW there were a number of squads with the exact same name.  I can't remember there ever having been a problem caused by it.

There were also a few players who had very similar handles; this occasionally caused trouble but was usually fine.

I see no reason why a group should have a "copyright" on a squad name.

Id hate the idea of another squad starting up with the same name,a lot of prople put a lot of work into their squads i.e. websites etc,I think its a matter of good form that if someone already has that name, you pick another.

I agree completely and the same goes for The Flying Tigers AVG. I got the same attitude from them when I brought this up the 1st night they showed up here.It doesn't exactly give me a warm fuzzy feeling towards this new influx that they show no respect whatsoever to those of us who have been in AH the entire time. In the meantime I take great pleasure in killing them everychance I get.   ;) I don't care how long they've been in AW...this aint AW.

Yeah, I can see how you wouldn't like that.  Kinda hard to have an identity as a squad when there are other squads with the same name as you.

Ok, SOB has my real feelings.

No matter he call's the AssASSins 'The HBlair Albino Boat Project", to take another's squad name sucks.

Especially cuz some dared to mess with the mighty Dickweeds. Agreed.

I make a conscious attempt not to call anything a whine over here, because the word 'whine' is grossly overused.

But this sounds like a whine to me.

Granted, I never understood all this squad stuff.  Maybe I should make my own NightHawks squad, too.  :)

If it really matters to both of your squads, I suggest you each pick your best pilots and 'duel' for the name.
