How many have actually been in a combat situation?

My Company transferred me to Central Mexico for 3 yrs (I loved it).  One day me and another American took some time off work to run errands.  Well we went to the bank and upon opening the door to the bank- we saw three banditos holding auto-matic weapons.  They had everyone lined up against the wall...it was horrifying. We slammed the door shut and took off running.  Well we got away but 2 hostages were killed later in  a firefight with police….sad.

Southern Colombia, 1992 and 1993.  With the Air Force (if you can believe that).  Can't really say much, but I will say that all the talk in the world doesn't mean anything once the bullets start flying.  You really see who you do and don't want in your bunker/foxhole right away.

Never killed anyone though... didn't even fire at anyone.  It was still perhaps one of the greatest moments of clarity I've ever had.

Persian Gulf... a few times during the Iran/Iraq war between 1984 and 1988.

Nobody shooting at us (USS Leahy CG-16) as we had the biggest stick (SM-2ER) in the pond at the time.

You don't have a bloody clue, 28sweep. The more I see of your posts outside the 30 character limits of a MA channel 1 message bar, the more I believe they should halve the size of said message bar.

Last year a few of my mates invited me to go back on a tour...the timing wasn't right but I'll try for this September when another group is planning their trip.

Thinking of going back brings out a lot of emotions and I am certan that going back w/o a group of my contemporaries wouldn't be good for me emotionaly. Ya gotta have a knowing shoulder to cry on when reliving the absolut worst times in your life.

What was the score while you were there?

Us and the EW's on the AWACS would keep score of tankers hits.  If I remember right, the Iraqis hit 27 or so tankers and the Iranians hit 12 or 15.  Exocets make an ugly fire on a full tanker.

...and definately uncool to be 10nm from a tanker and hearing that seeker during popup.

'Course in '86 the PG was not a "war zone".
