Now we're getting closer to the proper description of what occurred. the term "wrong" is closer to appropriate. Indeed, it was certainly nothing less than "lame".

Earlier in this thread I described the efforts I made to limit the exploitation of a bug in the CT. I find it to be unfortunate that people may deliberately profit from a bug. However, in a general sense, I don't see it as "cheating". I have also pointed out that once people start taking advantage of a bug, there's no stopping it from spreading simply because others are going to want some revenge. Believe me, it's human nature.

We experience differences between the MOTD and what is actually happening in the CT quite frequently. Acks sometimes come up in a fraction of the time defined in the MOTD. So, you deack a V base, kill the VH and return with a C-47, only to find the manable ack up much sooner than defined. Is the guy manning the ack cheating, because he manned it sooner than the MOTD defined the down time? Heck no! These incidents are caused by how the arena is set up.

To use your own words, Widewing, "Your analogy is faulty." You are citing an example where the acks come up faster than the putative arena settings would indicate. Fine. Acks come up; if you run eight goon loads of field supplies into a field, any acks that were down before you started will have come up when you finish, even if you bring all eight goons over the field 5 seconds after the acks were killed. What makes your analogy faulty is that the acks came up -- the gun is visible on the field as being there and being live, not wreckage in a blackened crater. If the goon driver lumbers in without looking to make sure the acks are down, then he deserves to get shot down. But if he flies in, checks the field, sees that all the acks are destroyed, overflies the field, and gets shot down by someone shooting a 'destroyed' gun, that shooter is cheating -- they are abusing a bug in the system for their own benefit.

You are aware, I hope, that HTC did not consider this incident to be "system abuse".

Case closed.

You gave it your best shot ... its not penetrating the gray matter, so you just might as well save your breath.

Some people just can't see the forest thru the trees no matter how hard you try. I have to say that I have enjoyed watching you try.

Well, YOU bear in mind that "the ends justify the means"
didn't hold up in Nuremburg either.

You know it's wrong, you state you know it's wrong, but you sidestep calling it cheating, interesting,

Never knew flightsims were home to so many "elected" officials.

Hey Hi-tech, Pyro, et al I know you really don't want to enter this discussion, but speaking as a re-eval guy, why don't you Email me with your view on this,

I'd like to know before deciding to commit where the line is drawn.

Now wait a minute! You are comparing this to war crimes!!!
Lolololol

I never said it was "wrong", I said it the term "wrong" was closer to the truth than the term "cheating".

Words have meaning, and too many posters in this thread have used them carelessly. Some people appear to have profitted from a reset bug, and possibly did so intentionally. If unintentional, there is nothing to discuss. If intentional, then it is unfortunate and clearly lame. Only HTC gets to define cheating, and so far they haven't defined what happened with that minor and short-lived bug as being cheating.

Huh?!?  Anyways, im surprised to see this thread go this far, even if it was because Voss got mad because I killed him.  Anyway, it was a simple map bug. Cheating is editing/hacking/modifying code to get around the set rules. This was just a simple ack bug that was fixed the next day. It was just 1 day where people cuold have fun in the acks before it would be fixed. Helped me with my accuracy when manning ack guns, so really the only harm done is just the score potatos whining because their score went down a few points.
