Has Anyone Ever Changed Their Mind..

lol Gunthr

I learned about the gun debate in America. If I was American, I'd own a gun. Not a handgun (that's the part I have concerns about), but definitely a sporting rifle - I'd like to go hunting and learn to eat what I shoot.

Hunting is restricted to a moneyed elite over here and there aren't that many places which would alow it.

I learned that American politics is more partisan than British, even though, as an outsider, they behave very similarly depending on who's in power. Britain is catching up fast.

Those are the salient points, anyway.

Guess the year.

There were only about 230 reported murders in the entire US

Yet

over 50% of the citizens owned and carried handguns as part of their daily lives.

midnight Target: Based on discussions in this forum?

Not as much based on discussions as on the books I got to buy and read after some discussions - on this and WB forum.

History - Liddel Hart, John Keegan, US histiry, sociology, genetics, economics, "Mein Kamph", even "The Bell Curve" by Murray - stuff that completely contradicts what the society believes about history, economics and most other things. It went downhill from there... :)

AKS\/\/ulfe: Yes- I use to think Russians weren't brainwashed to the point their brains turned to mush.
Then Boroda and Eaglecz started posting.

Oh, yea - used to think that Russians were  brainwashed by government propaganda and abcense of truthfull information. Then I saw what most americans are posting and saying and realised most humans are just inherently narrow-minded, self-deluding and jingoistic.

muckmaw: Won't the Ammo sitting in there erode...or go bad..or something?

Get out to the range and use that ammo couple of times a year. Buy a $6-10 pack of silica-gel in an arms or hardware supply store good for 33-50 qubic feet and put it in a closet next to the gun. Once it soakes through (color changes), you can restore it by heating in the oven.

muckmaw: I better get my bellybutton to a gun range...if I can find one on Long Island. (Never actually looked)

Huntington Town Range - next to Hilton off Rte 110. Outdoor range open 10am-4PM Friday to Monday (and in the evening except in winter). $13 per session for non-resident. Up to 100 yards, allow shotgun, give great instructions. In fact I've just witnessed a great instruction exactly on defencive use of a shotgun.
The Nassau County Rifle and Pistol range at Mitchell Field sports complex is $15, indoor 30 yards, open till 10PM and allows shotgun - though only shooting slugs, which is OK for practice.

Make sure to read AMMUNITION FOR THE SELF-DEFENSE FIREARM and other articles there.

"For ultra-close range home defense birdshot will do the trick. Choose any #4, BB or larger high brass lead hunting load, and have the balance of the magazine filled with #3 buck in case the birdshot doesn't put them down fast enough."

Also check 'Stressfire II: Advanced Combat Shotgun' by Massad Ayoob.

BUG_EAF322: just imagine 4 miljard people shreckin around...

Here is the solution to the excess of people - guns! :)

This is an example of why I tend to oppose the environmentalist movement.

Hey, that would be cool. I've always liked the look of Norway and Scandinavia - my kind of country. And the women aren't bad either. ;)

I might be able to get a trip to Sweden in the near future - I work in the paper industry and I'm sourcing some saw equipment from a Swedish company. They might get generous. :D

That's not the environmentalist movement - which is something I agree with - that's nonsensical zeal.

The controlled hunting of non-endangered animals can help conservation - with competent management and a good understanding of the area.

I don't agree with hunting without using the kill for food or skins. That's wasteful to me.

So kill some baby seals.(takes bravery and skill)

Point is there already to many man on the planet.
our meat has to come from the butcher otherwise it's the end of normal wildlife.

Also the fun of shooting an animal is to barbaric to me.
Yes i killed some chicken to feed on in the army.
But i had no fun of it. it was just a job to do.

I can't see a reason to make a hobby from it.

Why not go paintball or shoot animals with a camera.

both take more skill.

Anyway u don't have to kill wildlife for dinner because u can get meat at ur nearest shop.

Now if u lifed in the bush that would be another story.
but u don't so it's just pleasure ur talkin about.

There is hunting for preservation of species to. Like to many deers
But that's not ur job also that's done by guys who where trained and know the statistics.
It's a controlled thing.

But that all because we killed its natural predators.
