"Today I weep for my country"-Byrd
« on: March 19, 2003, 09:40:39 PM »
Today I weep for my country," said West Virginia Democrat Sen. Robert Byrd. "No more is the image of America one of strong, yet benevolent peacekeeper. ... Around the globe, our friends mistrust us, our word is disputed, our intentions are questioned.

"We flaunt our superpower status with arrogance," Byrd said, adding: "After war has ended the United States will have to rebuild much more than the country of Iraq. We will have to rebuild America's image around the globe."

Lets hope it pisses alot of people off and they manage to remember at the next elections...
Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Typical right wing roadkill rant that *conveniently* forgets about the U.S. Constitution:

Quote
Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Not to mention that he is in government service and is part of our system of checks and balances....

Do you want a one party system or do you just want the Democratic party to automatically rubber stamp the Republican agenda?

Then we have the kicker:

Get a grip.....your sounding kinda partisan yourself.

Weasel... you telling somebody to get a grip is ironic at best.

This indiv made a statement at a moment w/this nation needs to stand united...ie American lives are on the line.

He's made a partisin statement that is gambling that this our war w/Iraq is going to be a failure. He can THEN say... "I told you so"

He needed to simply STFU and show some decency. If you where a GD parent and knew your son/daughter was going into harms way but your rep was spouting crap like this off...

This is a prime example of hyprocracy.

Byrd says, "Blah, blah and blah."

Muck reacts to Byrd's statements and tells him to diddly off and that he thinks Byrd is senile, etc., etc.

Weazel parades out the Constitution and tells Muck to stop being a Right wing facist.  Byrd can say whatever he wants.

Well, guess what?  So can Muck.  If Byrd can say he's saddened for his country, Muck can call him a love muffin and anything else.  And both can say these things for the same reasons, because of the Constitution.

Weazel.  Saying what you believe is critical.  Its essential.  However, there is a correct time to voice doubt about your countries actions and an incorrect time.  With 240,000 americans on the edge of the Iraqi border, willing, volunteering to give their lives for you and I (regardless of who is president) this just isnt the time to state such devisive opinions in the Senate chamber.
A man as old and wise as Byrd should be able to calculate the appropriate time and place for such division.

I am ashamed of Byrd but I will never be ashamed of my country.
Even Bill Clinton could not bring me to shame the nation which I am blessed to live in.

Daschle is also a shameful and disrespectful man.

McDermmott is an amazinhunk of cosmic proportions.

The democratic party, far from being a pursuasive and legitimate option to many people who pride themsleves on "no party" affiliation has become an embarrasment to a majority of Americans.

I'm embarrased by both parties Yeager, I've stated many times on this board that it's time to kick both of the hogs away from the public trough.

You missed the point completely Dune, in the midst of your knee jerk you failed to consider that primarily I'm trying to provoke thought about checks and balances.

The way I see it is Byrd is doing the job he was elected to do....or do you also just want the opposition party to rubber stamp the others policies?

Yup...that would be a *real* democracy wouldn't it?

Gee...just think, Bill Clinton was ready to move on Iraq several years ago...did he get any support from the republican party or were they too busy obsessing about his cock and a stained dress to bother?

Gosh my heart is just BLEEDING right now for the right wings pain.....maybe someone will send you a piece of Monicas stained dress to dry your tears on.

Yessiree Bob, the Republican party is full of *real* patriots just like Byrd.

Mucks screaming about partisan politics is hypocrisy as well.....funny I don't see you taking him to task about it.....you wouldn't happen to be a Republican or Bush supporter would you?

Nah...couldn't be.
