Warping!!!!!
« on: April 10, 2003, 10:03:47 AM »
For the last week or so the warping in MA has been pretty bad especially over enemy (Bish) bases.  Has everyone been having this problem?  Does anyone know if HT's staff is aware of this situation?  Are they trying to fix it?  I haven't heard anything from the staff.

Skuzzy posted on the Internet Connectivity forum that he was aware of the situation. He said he would be posting some info in the next few days about a possible fix. He seemed to indicate it was a multi-faceted problem, with the general war coverage traffic on the internet being one causal factor. So, yea they are aware and in the process of fixing it I would assume.

That Typhoon wasn't warping, RacrX, he was just using the Picard maneuver.

I think we are refering not to the normal, occasional warps, but  a new and improved "break dancing" warp.  Cons flittering about like crazed beez, back and forth along a 5-1000k path.

I have noticed when planes spawn to take off, about half way down runway they appear to warp, upside down or standing on tail for an instant then proceeding on . I also noticed when approaching bogs they will frame in about 4 different locations in quick succession.

I've seen that too, in friendly and enemy planes and GVs.  But what I've really started seeing more of is the massive zigzag warp, in single planes or in groups zigzaging around at the same time.  Yesterday I was in a Mustang chasing a Typhoon and just as I planted some .50cal in his elevators, he went into the zigzag.  I don't know what he saw, but I got the kill.

I've been seeing lots, all the same type. Friendly and enemy. Sometimes it's a single individual, sometimes its more than one.

Connection will be normal then the subject will warp backwards 300-500yards. It will then fly for 1/2 a second on this new path then warp forward to where it was, then back again almost instantly. Then a second or so later forward again to be followed by a normal connection.

They all look very similar.

Very strange. I hope it goes away ASAP.

It's kind of fascinating when a con is trailing smoke and does one of these warps, leaving a trail of 90 degree or sharper angles.

I should have figured Skuzzy would be on it.  I just hadn't heard anything and I had a few members log last night because of it.  Hurry Skuzzy.  It's getting ruff out there.

I just experienced some absolutely horrible warping when I decided to forgo lunch and fly a couple sorties...

Scenario 1: I'm cruising along in my p51b and see a hellcat and a 190 egnaging a friendly.  I merge with the 190, saddle up on his 6 and he does the zig zag.  I land a few in him by sheer luck and break off to play with the kitty.  through the magic of warps and lag my radiator starts spewing coolant and within seconds I'm riding the silk.

Scenario 2: I up from a second line base and find a hog at 20k.  I engage him and land a bunch of .50s into his frame.  He goes down.  I fly off towards our HQ to defend against the bish swarm.  About half a sector away, My engine quits for no reason.  Smoke pours forth and when I check damage engine oil and engine are both done for.  At no time were there any pings, the corsair had no shots on me.  There was no explanation other than random engine failure.  Be that as it may, I decide to engage a low p38 and p51d.  I swooped down on the pony and lit him up.  At least 15 solid hit sprites to his tail and left wing.  He flies merrily along like nothing happened.  I then engage the p38 -- I'm still deadstick -- and after a couple pings into him, I disengage and head for the HQ to attempt a ditch.  When I landed, I waited expecting to see a kill message flash.  Nothing.  So, I exited my plane and logged.

I'm very hopeful that Skuzzy and friends are diligently working to solve this problem as it makes gameplay unbearable.

We are working on installing a new server, but you have to understand that we cannot control the Internet.  The best, fastest server in the world is not going to help, if the lag/warp is Internet induced.
If you chose to automatically conclude the problem is the server, then there is a fair chance you may never actually get the problem resolved.
I am not saying it cannot be the server, I am saying the server plays a pretty small part in the overall connectivity area and ignoring everything else will just lead to more frustration for you.

One more thing: GVs don't do the zig-zag warp, so its actually kind of entertaining to be parked in a Panzer while enemy aircraft zig and zag overhead.
