262 kill
« on: April 27, 2003, 09:48:26 PM »
The air was crisp and clear, a perfect day for flying.  I walked out onto the tarmac, my P47D-30 gleaned in the mid morning sun.

"Just taking her out for a short hop across the Baltic Sea, Frank.  Load'er up with 50% fuel and a 75 gallon droptank" I said to my crew chief.  "Aye-Aye Captain" he replied.

The aircraft easily slogged through the air as I started my 2500 feet per minute climb towards a friendly base in trouble.  Mutiple friendly aircraft could be seen in the air around me.  Ah yes, it would be a great day for flying.

At 7500 feet I leveled off.  "Jesus, doesn't this thing go any faster?" I thought to myself as my airspeed indicator seemed pegged at 275mph.  Thats when I saw him "*Spshhh* enemy 262 headed towards A5 at 15 to 20k, watch out fellas *spshhh*" I radioed in.  The 262 magnificently flew over me at a high rate of speed.

I continued flying straight and level, thinking the 262 would not bother with me.  He curved around after extending 10k past me and started his attack run.  Still not percieving any danger, I slowly pulled my P47 towards him, droptanks still attached, wep not engaged.  That was all that was needed.  He zoom climbed up and away.  "Yes, you certainly are a tricky one arent you..." I said silently to myself as I resumed a course to save my comrades (bishops).

"Check 6! Check 6!" I heard as I simultaneously looked back over my shoulder.  The 262 was once again approaching me from the rear.  "Alright Toko-Mojo, if you want some trouble, you got it!"  The 262 approached at a moderate speed, perhaps low on fuel or just low on energy.  At about 2.0k, he veered slightly off course as to not engage me head-on.  It was too late, I was crazy from all the ephedrine I took (real pilots take it so I figure I should too).  I was already at full war-emergency-power, so I fired all eight 50 caliber machine guns at this guy.  *Flash flash flash flash flash flash flash*.  He lit up like a ford pinto hit from the rear.  Both engines were trailing plumes of hideously black smoke.  The crippled 262 rushed past me towards a freshly captured base.

I dropped my external tank and gave chase.  The AA fire from the enemy cv was horrendous.  All I could see on either side of me were yellow tracers.  *BANG* My right aileron dissappeared in a blinding flash.  No way was I letting this guy get away.  He was already on final approach to the runway.  My airpseed was nearly 500mph, my plane gently shaking from compression.  200 yards before he was to touch down, I made my gun pass.  RATATATATATATATAT.  "Dang, missed!" I screamed as I pulled back on the stick.  But my attack had worked.  He had gotten scared and was now losing control of his aircraft.  But he regained control and set it down on the grass, coasting to the tarmac in front of a hangar.

"Tell my wife I love her!" I yelled into the radio as I did a beautiful wing over in my P47.  There he was, gently coasting on the brown tarmac, and here I was- in a screaming 90 degree dive firing 6000 rounds per minute.  *Flash flash flash flash flash flash flash* His plane broke in half and the wings tore off miliseconds before it exploded.  My situation was perilous now.  I was at less than 50 feet at 500mph in a 90degree dive.  So my plane smashed into the ground and exploded and I died.

from the 262 dweeb's perspective it sounds like another poor 262 dweeb got vulched by a suicidal perk hunter.

It is a common occurence for me and I'm sure... anyone else who has flown the 262 a lot to be in a 262 with 30-40 kills taking off after rearming only to be vulched by some dweeb that dove from 20k just to keel my 120 mph floundering jet. :)

I feel sorry for the jet dweeb and may the p47 dweeb die a thousand more deaths :)
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

I don't see it that way at all.  I crippled my foe in the gladitorial fight of AIR COMBAT.  David Vs Goliath.  275mph P47D vs 400mph 262.  I used my aircraft to its full potential, as did he.

I was the Prey, he was the Hunter.  But I turned the tables on him.  Suddenly the gazelle was chasing the cheetah.  He chose to disengage, not I.  But I gave chase, I took the risk of flying through enemy aircraft infested skies, through AA fire so thick that the air was yellow with tracer fire.  Skillfully I jinxed my trembling fighter and emerged through the wall of tracers with only minor damage.  Tracer fire from the base which I had attempted to save threatened my very life.

I thought of the formations of B17s and B26s my valiant country would be sending to recapture the base.  They would be little more than fireballs after this 262 got through with them.  Perhaps I should disengage and fly back to base, leaving the lambs to slaughter.  No, it was up to me.  I had to make the skies safe for Bishland.   I pressed home my attack not once, but twice.  No, this was not a vulch.  This was one of the few times the Gazelle rips the guts out of the cheetah with its horns to keep the rest of the herd safe.

I like to think to myself that the last thing through that 262 pilot's head was "D***, that guy is good!"

I am practically a hero.

That was a GREAT story.

I had an "Oh S$%@" experience in a Me-262 last night.

I dont have many perks, just enough for the odd 262 sortie.

Coming on to finals after a 30 minute flight at the Rook 163 base next to the rook city. The map with all the islands and the 'reset corner'.

On short finals, runway 135. 110 MPH. Full flaps.

Was coming down and was transitioning from nose down to nose level, aiming to land nose high like a 767.....

Anyway at the start of runway 135 is a cliff.

So there I was with a perfect approach, 200 yards from the threshold at about 30 feet above runway level.

AND THEN SOMEONE TRIES TO HACK MY PC AND MY FIREWALL MINIMISES AH AND SWITCHES TO THE WINDOWS DESKTOP.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa hhhhhh !.

So I tried to Alt-tab to AH, and someone how did it.

But then, my aircraft is nicely trimmed but sinking, and had gone BELOW runway level about 20 feet below the cliff at the start of the runway.

I could hear all those black-box recorder tapes running through my head.... "Full power, Full power!".

I applied full power and pulled back on the stick, to maximium angle of attack NOSE HIGH like a jumbo jet.

Somehow, the aircraft rose a few dozen feet, crossed the threshold and landed.

In one piece!

Reminds me of a few times in which I lost 262s.  One was when I accidently loaded 25% fuel and was in a ferocious dogfight with 5 or 6 rooks on Baltic.  Engines flamed out and I tried to land, P51 got me on final.  P51 pilot told me "Thats the first time I've had to slow down to shoot a 262".

Another time on Baltic- I was taking off with 100% fuel from the eastern bases headed south.  The terrain rises a few thousand feet gradually so you have to constantly climb.  My 262 is wallowing at about 140mph.  A few friendly aircraft are nearby, and its night, so I feel safe.  Suddenly this red 109 appears and swoops in on me.  I pop flaps and turn as hard as I can, but he gets me.

The suckiest time I lost a 262 has to be this-  Split Sed at 15k to engage a me110.  He is about 7k. I compress, shoot right past him, and smash into the sea.  Booooooooooo.

Best 262 kill sortie ever:

I'm flying my pony and fighting a bish tempest.  We've tangled down to the deck and are riding the stall horn.  I finally manage to knock him down and see 2x262 headed into me about 6k above and 5k out.  I'm doing about 200 and on the deck.  I figure I'm a goner, and scream over both squad and range vox that I'm engaged with 2 jets and could use some help.  The jets are making coordinated attacks on me while I continue to jink my pony and pray my life doesn't end to a barrage of 3cm explosive fury.  Obviously I frustrated one of the jets enough to get greedy.  He must have figured his friend would bail him out.  Well, he comes down and tries to turn with me.  I manage to roll out of the way and fire a burst into his right wing.  Engine begins to smoke and his aileron flutters down to the deck.  I broke off and turned to find the other jet screaming in at me.  Executed a little side slip, cranked hard right rudder and let a burst fly.  Must have landed one right in his cockpit because the jet exploded as I passed by the left of it.  Now I've infuriated the first jet driver.  He comes back determined to nail me.  Obviously he's forgotten about the damage I inflicted earlier and gets into a slow scissors.  I out-scissor him and saw off his already damaged wing.

Final score was 1 tempest and 2 jets.

Second best 262 kill:

I am in a goon headed to capture a vh about 5 feet above the water.  A jet has made a few passes overhead, and I'm not sure that he's spotted me.  Finally, he comes screaming down.  I try to avoid the 3cm shells but one lands and my goonie bird is in serious trouble.  Suddenly "BOOM" right off my right wing.  The jet misjudged and became a submarine.

3rd best 262 kill:

I'm flying a formation of lancasters with cavemanj.  We're just about to drop on some knight strats when he calls out "bandit high 8".  We jump into the gunner positions and a jet comes screaming in.  We both open up and score multiple hits on the jet and smoke is pouring out both engines.  He disengages.  About a minute later another jet comes streaking in.  Again Caveman and I open up.  I saw off his right wing and he goes down.  A few minutes after the drop, I get another kill message.  The first jet has succumbed to engine failure.

That was a fun to read story....now what really happened out there??

Just kidding....

Did you confirm you got the the perks after that kill? Curious how many perks you got in one mission.

Wish I were brave enough to fly my 262 that I just barely earned. For a not-so-good fighter like me, it took forever to earn 200 perks. Maybe I'll wait until I have enough perks to buy two of them before I dare risk losing it :)

For the lancaster sortie, I got 21.93 perks.  For the pony sortie, I received 9.77.
