Filthy Bums

A friend of mine was out of town at a convention, had a little too much to drink and walked to his hotel. On the way a filthy bum asked him for money, then attacked him.

My friend is pretty tough, but the bum wrestled with him and bit him, drawing blood.

He had to undergo hepatitus treatments for weeks and was very worried that he could have hepatitus or aids.


Just because they are filthy, grungy bums, don't assume they can't or wont do you harm.

Read my above post, then re-evaluate how you should react when anyone, including a filthy bum, grabs your arm.

You want to risk getting assaulted, getting scratched or bitten even? You want to risk aids or hepatitus?

Try grabbing someone's arm you don't know and ask them for money and see what happens to you.

You would rather risk getting a fatal desease from a bum by trusting that he wont try to bite you or assault you?

You do know that a lot of these people are crazy right? You can't predict what they intend. If someone grabs me, especially a filthy bum,  I'm knocking them away as fast as I can.

Since when is someone grabbing your arm and turning you around "deadly force". I suppose he might have ripped your arm off and beat you to death with it... Anything's possible...

Defending yourself is one thing. If the guy punched you in the face, by all means knock his block off... I would do the same thing. But I certainly wouldn't knock somebody out if they grabbed my arm. I wasn't there Steve, so I'll leave it at that.

In other words, Chicken George didn't get bashed over the head because he was using deadly force. He was bashed over the head for no good reason.

I had lawful right to defend myself, whereas the person attacking George was a murderer.   Sorry if I was unclear.

A person forcefully grabs your arm from behind Grim, what do you do?

All you people who are criticzing my actions.... are you sayin in that split second after someone grabs your arm in a threatening manner that you would stop to have a conversation with the attacker?  So, you turn around and determine that it is a homeless person.. and you say,"  Ohhh, ok... go ahead and attack me, since you're homeless it wouldn't be fair for me to defend myself."

I have quite a few stories about altercations I've had with crazy homeless people... One was around midnight, I was drunk as hell, and a crazy bum twice my size with f*cking pom poms tucked into his f*cking socks and a "Girl Power" shirt stretched beyond the ripping point yelling at me while I'm taking a piss threatening me with all kinds of nonsense because I couldn't give him a quarter to get a newspaper!!!!

Nevertheless, we both ended up going our seperate ways without any injuries and he didn't get anything from me... just gotta know how to handle yourself around people.

Someone grabbing your arm doesn't make him an attacker, it gives you a reason to turn around and confront him- and I'm not talking about a nice calm conversation... I'm not talking about being the assaulter in the interaction either, which you were Steve.

This reminds me of the time I was wearing my "girl power" T-Shirt and I saw this little dude half my size pissing in a newspaper rack. I told him papers were a quarter and if he pissed in the newspaper rack he had to pay a quarter but he was too drunk to understand. Finally I gave up, pulled the pom-poms out of my socks and danced on down the road. I should have stuffed his drunk bellybutton in the newspaper rack.

You're completely wrong.  If someone grabs your arm in what you determine is a forceful manner, that person is committing assault and you have a right to defend yourself, with force.  After police took witnessess statements(they too felt the guy was jumping me), they asked me if I wanted to file charges.

Sorry -SW but your grasp of the law is completely wrong.. at least in this example.
