The second strange ride I took was later in the day.  I noticed a new bike in the parking lot.  One of my guys with a pretty hopped up new Harley had bought a new bike to play on.

It was an ugly looking "sport" bike with the monkey f###ing a football seating position and trashy teenager graphics... the whole bit.

A suzuki.  1300 it sayed and some jap stuff and "hayabusa"?  Speedo went to 180  couldn't see the engine but was told it was a water cooled 4 with fuel injection.  This is the fastest bike you can buy... that is the claim.   I have no doubt that they are correct.

He tossed me the key and left for a job.   The thing fires with a little button. on the throttle and idles like it has a very mild cam... very little if any engine or exahust noise.  Throttle is beyond crisp... instant response.  a blip and it reache 5 grand in about a second and returns as quickly to it's docile idle but... anything that revs that quick makes me cautious  ( as cautious as I get).

He had told me "best roll on the throttle or it will flip in any gear"..  It's asix speed... 1st is good for 80mph plus... I am told the bike will do well over 200 mph.  I think I believe it.

What is it like?   I put on my motorcycle protective gear (rayban wayfarer II's) and hopped on.  balance is a little high and it's a stone squeak to get you rfeet on the pegs behind you but I got the thing rolling and got my feet on.  tried the brakes and they worked like they looked... formidable.  roll on the throttle in first and shoot to 45 or so with the front wheel getting light... very smooth... no flat spot.. in fact... the powerband was flat in the extreme... like it was a rehostat not a throttle...

Want your eyeballs pushed further back in your head?  roll on more throttle... nevermind what gear or RPM range.. it will ALLWAYS go faster than you intended.   went through about 4 gears and never got much past 7-8 grand (11 grand redline) and when I glanced down the speedo was flying past 100mph... I let off... don't think I ever went past maybe 110 but that was in about 2 city blocks distance.   felt like 60 tho... wasn't even trying to tear off my raybans...

The thing is rock solid.  no road vibration at all very stable and confidence inspiring.

I don't like jap bikes but... there is nothing I have ever rode that compares to this thing... it is sophisticated in the extreme... it is also perhaps the fastest and quickest  thing I have ever been in or on.  for sure it is the least dramatic about how it does what it does.

I am thinkin.... what a hell of a dwarf car drivetrain this thing would make!

Try an R1.  It's like a Hayabusa but goes round corners as well.

I've ridden just about every sport bike there is...

The Hyabusa isn't any faster than the other front runners up to 120mph, in some cases it's slower. Plus, it corners like a slug in comparison to the Yamaha R1 and Suzuki GSXR1000. You sort of have to "throw" it into the corners due to it's weight. I currently ride a Triumph 955i Daytona, so I'm used to the whole cornering like a slug thing.

However, after that Hyabusa hits 120, it just keeps right on pulling like a freight train up to 200mph and is as smooth as a sewing machine all the way on up. I'd venture to say it's the fastest bike from 120mph to top speed and definitely the smoothest and most solid at those speeds.

I liked it. I liked it a lot.

I guess I am mistaken on it being the quickest and fastest production bike... but it appears that everyone else missed it too..  I have heard that it will out accelerate the other bikes mentioned and that it is much smoother doing so tho.

but...The quickest and fastest motorcycle is the 350 chevy powered one and now... the viper V10 powered one.  I can't recall the name of the company that makes em.  seen one being demonstrated on TV..

The 350 powered on is kinda tempting.   Stone age simple to work on and if you wanted another 100 or so HP... you could do it in the carport.   Engine should be good for about 250,000 miles and you could buy parts ant the local auto parts store.

I don't really care how fast these things go around corners... none of em go fast around an oil soaked or sandy corner  and you don't know that till you are in way over your head... the better the bike corners the worse it is for you when the enevitable happens.   If you are only using it's cornering aboility at the track then ithat is different.

ahh.. just read.. yeah.. it;s almost always the corners..
sand, gravel, twigs, leaves, water, ped's..

I had a 955i on loan for a day once.....came to the conclusion that the Triumph test rider must be a 6'8" gorrilla with a concave bowl in his chest.   Truimphs have the oddest riding position I've ever experienced and how on earth do Triumph make their triples so damn wide?  


However.....the new Daytona 6 is just beautiful:



and the press are saying it's an R6 killer.......I'm tempted.

Actually mate I disagree.  I like bikes that are emminently flickable, ie initial changes of direction are very very fast.  Stuff like R6s.   The quick flick has gotton me out of trouble many times.

Plus....on a big heavy barsteward bike if you throw it into a bend too fast you'll be in deep trouble real quick.  On a lightweight agile thing like an R6 if you throw it in too fast then you were going waaaaaaay too fast.

These days a stock sports 600 will do 160mph + out of the crate from Japan......personally I'm quite happy with a loud pipe and 165mph plus some cornering ability.  Not interested in something that goes faster but sacrifices agility.

disagree.. while all bikes are dangerous, I think crotch-rockets are the worst because the lull you into treating them as toys when they are incredibly fast and dangerous.
at first, when I first owned one I treated it with care, but quickly I got 'good' at riding and went 100+ everywhere..
most of my Harley friends are still alive.  They tend to 'cruise' as opposed to 'racing'.. that's the difference.  Obviously there are exceptions and poor drivers on each side but it's the mentality of the driver much of the time and crotch-rockets seem to bring out the daring in it's riders.


but they all lose when it comes to car/cycle  car/road  conflicts...
I have the scars to prove it.

Lazs, your right. They have that 1300 in a junior spec formula car. Check this out. The Hayabusa is the fastest road bike you can buy, not much of a handler because of its weight  but ultra fast. A highway drag monster.

Yep there are quite a few road racing classes in the US and UK that are based around motorcycle drivetrains.  There was one recently in Racecar Engineering that had a pair of Suzuki fours driving the rear wheels.  2 liter 320 hp "V-8".  :)

swoop.... I never have to "flick" anything to get out of trouble... I think ya gotta ask yourself why you needed to "flick" and how that flick is gonna get you out of trouble when you go around a corner at 140+ and it is covered with dirt and dbri from a landslide or a big rig is jackknifed across the lanes or ...  ice has formed or whatever.  I can see where "flick" ability would be an asset on the track to avoid trouble.  

The dwarf cars I seen say you can't use fuel injection.

lepaul... that is the bike I rode... exact same color... hidieously ugly but very fast.   was kinda embarassing but I was out in the country so no one could see me.  the head on view is even uglier.

That chevy powered bike is looking better all the time.
