Well guys, keep me posted on when they polish all the bugs. Right now, landing an aircraft is really comical.

Probably because you aren't fighting the I16 properly.

If you are playing AI, thats the problem.

Every game is the same way: AI either sucks, or is way too good. All AI planes run simplified models at 110% power + boost at all times.

Even the Ace AI in the I16 is very beatable- with the proper tactics.

Was this the sim that had a special Wal-Mart release of a beta copy that they sold to the general public for around $15?  I seem to recall a big stink about that from the US flight sim consumers who demanded a refund and felt betrayed.  After all that business, I sort of wrote this sim off as another "IAF".

Then again, I like this:

Quote
In addition to the campaign, the game also features Instant Action and Single Mission modes of play. Instant Action immediately puts the player into the cockpit with a single mouse click, while Single Mission enables the player to design custom missions and pilot his favorite aircraft. These two additional modes of play let players tailor the game experience to match their own playing style.

When I was flying "US Navy Fighters" (and its add-ons as they came out) I did maybe the first 2 campaign missions, then learned the mission editor and never went back. I fell in love with the whole creativity aspect of making my own "world" using the game's objects library.   I haven't found a good jet sim since.  Maybe this "Strike Fighters" will be it.

One thing I never got over with "Su-27 Flanker" was the complexity of the avionics systems.  I think my brain exploded during the radar training portion.  Any chance the pilot cockpit workload has been simplified?

I'm kinda chuckling at the rave reviews some are giving this game.  I mean, if Aces High flew like this game, the whining would be unbearable.

the flight phsyics are way off, especially down slow.  These birds won't spin, much less stall...and the developer said all along its a "light" sim.  So some of you guys who like a bit more reality (like me)...some areas really lack.

One of the first things I enjoy doing in any new sim is to do a few takeoffs and landings to feel the airplane(s) out.  Try it, I won't say what I thought....but for those who have the game and are raving (or silently agreeing)...just try it.  Compare to the feel of Aces High, etc.  Aces High may not look nearly as sharp and lack the shine this game has in eye candy...but the flying physics feel great.

Don't get me wrong, this is one helluva pretty game.  Nothing puts a smile on my face more than a good ole Napalm run on the local mosque or enemy troop concentrations   :)  But its got a long ways to go to have that kind of *WOW* impact several of the Aces High type players will really connect with.

The F-86 add on is simply gorgeous.

If it has multiplayer coming soon, and bug fixes...yay.  Otherwise, if the fans improve this game much like the Falcon 4 crowd has tweaked their game...well, wow!

If I had to give a cummulative score to the game, I'd give it a 5 out of 10 (10 highest).  It does a lot right but for this genre of player (simulation)...there's a lot of work to be done.  Go try stalling an airplane and watch it hang there.

If you can't spin them then you aren't trying hard enough.  :)
They do seem to be awful stable (laterally) at high angles of attack though.
But looking at the .ini files, all the dynamics are there to get more realistic behavior.  It's just a matter of getting somebody like Wells to tune all the parameters.

Really?  I mean I've tried it all....mostly in the A-4

Have you done the Communications Building strike (and where is it?)...LOL....I keep getting assigned that in pouring rain.  Nothing like a lil IFR rocket raid

I want a B43 special store for that ****ing commo building.  I'm always long or short with my bombs on that little bastard.

I don't fly the Navy planes much, but the Hun and the Starfighter will do all kinds of groovy gyrations if you zoom vertically and cut the throttle, especially if you get way up in the thin air.

I think part of the difficulty with getting a spin or a snap roll from level flight is that the planes just run out of elevator authority at low speeds.  I guess if I get bored this weekend I'll have to play around with the ini and see what happens.

THE SECOND PATCH IS OUT!!!!!  YAY!!!!

On the FM's.  I think these Jets have an extrordinary Thrust / Weight ratio so do not stall nearly as easy as the rides here.  That being said- I've heard from the modders that the fidelity that is missing in the FM's can easily be added.

THE KOREAN MOD IS OUT!!!!!  YAY!!!!!!!!!

Gimme a screen shot of where that building is!!

I've loved hitting that airfield nearby....F-4 with 8 750 pound bombs and a centerline 2k...and 2 napalm canisters do a mighty fine job (if you like emulating the ole Iron Eagle scene hehe...."Chappy!")

Its just a matter of time before someone adds on an F-15 or F-16 to that game.  The B-52 is a bit rough, but cool  (takes a LONG TIME to turn the mutha!)

Lepaul just fly the waypoints, then use padlock and select nearest ground target when you get close.

Its lite FM is kinda funkey, and the planes and the scenery are pretty good. Just like Il-2 in my book. Its fun to fly though, I like the A-4. Though if you ever complained about hispanos being point and click the 20mm in this game is worse you hit it, its. dead. I have yet to see a wounded plane.

The mission editor as is is also where the fun is at it track your kills every mission I got  30 some MiGs painted up on the side of my A-4. I havent tried the campiagn yet, so I dont know how it is. And it is very fun going in on mosques with napalm and 2000lb bombs.
Bis endlich der Fiend am Boden liegt.
