HT wouldn't need do the programming themselves. it's likely that that HT's programmers are not familiar with the Mac tools anyways.  They would hire one of the porting houses like Westlake Interactive, MacPlay or a few others I can't think of.

There ares still millions of Mac Users out there. I contend that 95% windows market shares does not translate to 95% domination of AH playing. There's obviously money to be made from us Mac Users since they keep porting the games to Mac.

Not so hard after all.

Mac users (like me) are gamers but don't necessarily need a hard core gamiing machine. I'm not suggesting that people with 600Mhz iMacs are going to be able to play AH but I can play BF1942 on my Powerbook with it's measly little ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 64mb (with less frame drops than AHII has on my PC I might add).

Apple machines are pretty competitive (The newer G5s offer better graphics cards) nowadays.

Somehow, I don't know why, but I have a VERY strong feeling that the source code for Aces High will never leave the hallowed halls of HTC.

I used to be a Mac guy, and I'm familiar with these comparisons.  Bottom line is that for the same game performance, you pay 2-3 times as much for Mac hardware.

Furthermore, a game like Unreal has a decent-sized market, so there it's worth the effort for a port.  The number of Mac MMP flight sim players is likely much smaller.

It's too bad, but there it is.

For a few hundred bucks you can build a decent game PC, if you really want to play games like AH.

To put it even more bluntly I would make more money buying A PC for every mac user who wanted to play AH, than to port AH to a mac.

As far as outside devlopment,
I realy have no desire to release the source code. But the even bigger problem has to do with updates, Suddenly you want to do a patch, and can't release it do to the mac side not beeing ready. Durring The warbird days had to hold up V2.0 for 2 or 3 months just because the mac wasn't ready, That is the big hidden cost when supporting multiple platforms.

Been there , done that Have the T-shirt on mac devlopment.

I agree the Macintosh doesn't have enough market share to count, probably the same for Linux at this time (I know OSX 'is" Linux...ya ya ya). But how about that little sliver in the original post that fell through the cracks.

Wide screen support? I normally run my desktop in 1920X1200 and the game only does 1600X1200 which distorts the graphics a bit. Probably the same answer, and I can live with that, the development costs are not justified by the number of players that would benefit. Just curious really.
