Most annoying internet mis-spellings
« on: July 15, 2003, 01:43:03 PM »
I dunno, I hate being too anal about this but sometime...only  sometimes, it gets to me. I don't mind l33t speak too much - my aged 28 year old eyes simply skip it. I actually enjoy seeing 'U are teh suck' on a message board, if it's obviously not an actual spelling mistake (hello Funked)

But the thing that gets to me is per say.

It's per se  people. You obviously over-heard somebody else say this, possibly worked out the meaning from the context and tried to look smart by typing it in a BBS. Go to Merriam-Websters online thesaurus and do a search for both spellings. Now decide which one you'll use in the future.

Only thing I hate more is people who make spelling mistakes in the title of a new thread. And people who can't use apostrophe's correctly. And people who quote themselves in their own signatures. Anybody else have any?

That's the one that TOTALLY mystifies me - why on earth does anyone do that?!
Most of the rest are fair enough - phonetic spelling, bad typing or just being dyslexic - they're understandable mistakes - but the comma thing is beyond me.  If it was a keyboard screw up, you'd just buy a new one wouldn't you? Or not post. So what is it? If it were some sort of narcolepsy it'd happen on other keys as well - but no it's only ever the comma. Someone please please explain it to me.

Now back to your scheduled programming of waiting to see how long this thread lasts before one of the Brits posts "color" as being their all-time most irritating internet misspelling, and it all turns into a big transatlantic knife fight. :D
