If the stats show only 1 in 9 complain then the math isn't hard to figure out. The bottom line is HTC needs to be responsible for their BBS, not us.

Dowding - you are right. It's not that bad, but as you can see from a few of the replies in this thread, we do have a problem. As I said before, the visible minority needs to be moderated.

I agree to only attack those who are obviously wrong (meaning those who disagree with me).        Just kidding.

I try to moderate my responces, and have a hard time understanding why someguys take it to a personal level right away. Unfortunately when that has happened to me, I have responded somewhat in kind.  I know there is always room for improvement, and I am working on it.

Good ideas, good post there Ripfart.

Speaking of descendants (and I don't want to do this but StSanta has forced the issue), I have irrefutable, non-retouched, digital-enhanced, photographic evidence that StSanta is Segfried & Roy's love child.

At first I thought he was Liberache's love child, but on closer review of the (ahem) evidence, it appears that while a distant relation to Liberache, he is in fact the prodigy of that famous Las Vegas Animal Act. Oh My!

BTW, this is not a personal attack.  It is merely a public service to unite these two parties.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... The concept of a kinder, gentler BBS smacks of another republican plot.. Rip, ol buddy; do you have an elephant in yer yard on election day?

I can understand and even agreee to the ideal of 'keep the personal attacks off the BBS'... but I, like some others here; would have to have my keyboard locked on some occasions... "spade's a spade's" a good analogy. I can rememeber a few occasions when I 'lost it' and did a "D&DID" (discourse & dismemberment in detail) on a now long gone pilot.. not one of my shining moments.

I applaud those with the restraint to absorb a direct insult without refrain on this BBS.. but; sadly, I find it difficult to do so myself. *sigh* Oh; well..

Some famous dead guy once said (while still alive I think) "It's often best to just clam up and let 'em think yer an amazinhunk than to open yer mouth and prove it". That may apply here.. most of the drivel I see needs no response.. we already know who the amazinhunks are.

First of all I strongly believe RipSnort's right. Oh, so right. But him saying " ... behavior problems are ALWAYS going to be part of an online flight sim." just isn't true.

I myself come from the SDOE community and I can only say that a friendlier more helpsome crowd is indeed virtually impossible to come across. It was very striking to experience the level of matureness in here. Not that I am easily offended (I found Cobra's remark above very funny).

I think it comes from eagerness. There's a feeling, perhaps, that if you shout loud enough on the BBS you might have your will regarding developments to the game. Further, AH pilots are very competitive. This is by all means great for the game (someone earlier said that people in-game are friendly and polite, but out here can be nasty and rude - I agree) - I just wish competitiveness would be accompanied with humor, a bit of role-play (yez, indeed ze germanz pilotz should indeed be of ze arrogantz nature) and foremost helpfullness to the new - aka more eagerness and sense of 'belonging' to this community.

It's really hard to feel at home here at times.

To quote Vruth:
"What we need is a mature moderator, someone who reads the boards, then when needed, steps in an politely ask the gents to smarten up or move topics to the appropriate places. Better still, knowing that the moderator is there is a deterrent.

I would like to petition HTC for a moderator. Use the community members who are respected to moderate the boards."

That's what we had in SDOE. Veteran moderators. I guess a person like Ripsnort would make a fine moderator!

(now pay up, rip)

wow.. rip and ag/sturm6 giving advise about how we should all stop "personal" attacks.  It's really quite simple... don't lie and don't say stupid toejam and people won't be able to make any meaningfull attacks on you.  If you do lie or say stupid toejam then get a thick skin or, as ag/sturm is doing... leave.

Rip,

I think your heart's in the right place and I applaud you for speaking out and trying to make this community a better place for all of us to live :  When you stop and think on it, we all do spend a large portion of our lives either in the "air" or on this bulletin board    Why shouldn't we demand a community where mutual respect is the order of the day.  After all (and without trying to sound elitist), this is OUR community. Well, okay, it's HTC's community, but we pay the rent!

Well J_A_B, what can I say?

Oh yeah, this:

Of all the people who fly in the AH main arena just how many of them actually post on this BB and are those who do not post here to be considered "elitist A-holes" just by association?

And this:

I really, really like this woman but I cannot stand her mother so I guess I will just forget the whole thing.

OK, here is a possible solution for your friend(s) who love the game-hate the BB.

Play the game....do not read the BB.

Would the phrase "Real Lame Excuse for not playing Aces High" be considered a personal attack?

When did they put this thing in here and WTF is it for?

While I agree, Sunchaser, that some use this as an excuse not to learn a new sim, and probably have alot other excuses, I'm sure you could agree to the fact that when a person downloads the game, and has some questions, they will usually go to the games BBS first.  Its similiar to going to a restaurant, where you open the door, and the first senses that you encounter will usually set the tone for the visit.  Now, I'm not saying AH is a restaurant, but bear with me.

Truly amaze me with your wording.  Please tell how you came about with this exquisite vocabulary?  We've always wondered who wins the Darwin awards, lazs I have confidence you will be up for the 2002 awards.
