I think its a great idea.   Picture a pilot nursing a plane home with a damaged elevator, fuel leak, and flap damage.   He touches down awkwardly, and taxies over to one of large hangars at the field.   Once inside, he shuts the engine down, and gets a message in the text buffer from the system:   "Commencing repairs - 30 seconds per item damaged."

In the background, a wav file is playing typical hangar maintenance sounds-- air wrenches spinning, metal clanging, and mechanic's voices talking, laughing, and cursing.

At the end of the repairs, the system can send a "Repairs completed"  message; then the pilot can taxi over to the refuel/rearm pad to get refueled before taking off again.

I would really look forward to a feature like this.  I bring home bent and broken birds quite often...

Now that would be a really kewl feature, I cant remember home many times I bring my plane home with a dicky rudder or fuel leak and its end of sortie.  Particularly important in special events since they are only 1 life events, one ping into a fuel tank can mean end of event.

I supposed to make it a little more realistic, you'd have rule out repairs on certain types of items - pilot wounds, for example, or major engine damage (of courseif the engine was damaged they
probably wouldn't have made it to the hangar...)

another aspect of that Idea is you could continue the current sortie.  If you have to replain, you start a new sortie.

I think someone else had the idea that this would be a good use for perk points.  Assign each repair a perk point value, the more serious damage, the more points required to repair it.  I like that Idea more than the time idea because no one will want to sit on a rearm pad for 5 min. when they could get a new ride for nothing.

Perhaps if HiTech could make the Drunks Actual Players with or without a Working gun then he could extend that routine to include players  hanger with the ability to repair engines, or out in the bush and only able to patch a radiator or fuel link unjam a gun or refuel. This same routine could also be used for downed pilot / mechanic retrieval.

If HT was so inclined it could be justified that one new routine in the game could be expanded with little fuss to grant the three requests that I seem to see recurring often. but then again more code would take more time and I seem to have had that discussion somewhere else...

well i don't expect to see it in the first few patches (if it ever gets in) but maybe around next summer would be good :) that gives him about a year to work on it, sounds reasonable right?
