I think its a great idea. Picture a pilot nursing a plane home with a damaged elevator, fuel leak, and flap damage. He touches down awkwardly, and taxies over to one of large hangars at the field. Once inside, he shuts the engine down, and gets a message in the text buffer from the system: "Commencing repairs - 30 seconds per item damaged."
In the background, a wav file is playing typical hangar maintenance sounds-- air wrenches spinning, metal clanging, and mechanic's voices talking, laughing, and cursing.
At the end of the repairs, the system can send a "Repairs completed" message; then the pilot can taxi over to the refuel/rearm pad to get refueled before taking off again.
I would really look forward to a feature like this. I bring home bent and broken birds quite often...
