Nooooooooooooooooooooooo.
I can't understaqnd why anyone would actually want to move there. I'm sure you have your reasons though.
I spent three years there, and just recently escaped. Here's what I noticed as an outsider.
Nobody is friendly. I didn't run into mean people, but because LA is so large and has many stereotypes relating to violence, people just kept to themselves. Nobody tries to really start a conversation, and gives you strange looks if you do ask a nice "having a good day?".
DEFINETELY, never use your turn signal. It is an idication to the cars around you that you desire to go somewhere, and they will cahllenge you on it, ruthlessly. Likewise, you will soon turn into that person too, and anytime you see a turn signal on the freeway, you will either accelerate to keep that person from making that lane change, or you will curse them needlessly for getting in front of you.
Drive 90 on all the freeways. If you don't, you will get run over.
Start your weekend trips early. It takes a lot of time to get out of town when everyone else is leaving for the weekend. Especially I-5 north or south, or I-10 East.
By the way, get used to referring to freeways as "the", as in "The 5" or "the 15". When giving directions, people will tell you to take the 55 south to the 91 west, etc.
There are very nice areas inside LA, but I found them to be too small and two far between. Most of LA is like Santa Fe Springs, or Whittier, or Pomona. Not a lot charm, nice trees, or anything really.
I liked several things about it, but most of it I was happy to give up to leave. I live in Bend, Oregon now.
