Well I hope she can sleep at night knowing that she has made lots of money off her dead comrades.

Private Lynch signs $1m deal

Suzanne Goldenberg in Washington

The Guardian

Jessica Lynch, the US army clerk whose rescue by special forces produced America's most patriotic moment of the Iraq war, has signed a $1m (636,00) book deal.
The story of Ms Lynch's capture near Nassiriya, after her company took a wrong turn and crashed, and her rescue from an Iraqi hospital bed captivated Americans, who adopted the diminutive private as a heroine.

Its appeal has not faded despite compelling evidence that the Pentagon concocted large parts of the story.

Ms Lynch, 20, who joined the army so it would pay for her studies as a kindergarten teacher, returned home a heroine in July, after a lengthy recovery. Hundreds of Americans have stood outside the family home in Palestine, West Virginia, waiting for a glimpse of her. Her parents were besieged with offers of publishing and television deals.

In the end, they chose writer Rick Bragg for the authorised biography, which will be called I am a Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story.

Bragg, who resigned from the New York Times after admitting that an intern had done the reporting for his most evocative pieces, has already started work on the project. But the announcement was delayed until Ms Lynch received her medical discharge from the army last month.

It was unclear yesterday how the pair would tell the story. Ms Lynch said repeatedly that she has no recollection of the episode - and army doctors said it was unlikely her memory would recover.

What kind of crack are you smoking?

Are you saying anyone that has ever written about their experiences in any battle is in some way exploiting their dead comrades?

What about the documentaries of major world war two battles?

What about this game?

Getting in a truck accident running from a battle doesn't sound like much of a book, I think it's based on her being female and the actual rescue. I wonder how much of that 1 million she's going to give to the guys that saved her life? (Iraq's doctors included)

wow I only got 12 grand when I was in a  accident.......

Regardless, no one would turn down 1 million, or give much of it away.

The News media made much more money over her "story" then she did, dont blame her for taking a little herself.

You would be surprised how much 1 million bucks can do for the memory. Atleast no one can go back and claim she changed any of the "story" for the book.

Is this bait or are you just easily influenced?

OK. Where do you start?

Audie Murphy made lots of money off his dead comrades?
The relatives of his company members who died in combat should file a lawsuit against his estate. Dont you think they should be compensated? How dare him for telling his story in book (To Hell and Back) and insult the dead with a movie.

Franz Stigler made lots of money off his dead comrades?
The relatives of his squad members who died in combat should file a lawsuit. Dont you think they should be compensated? How dare him for making money from his experiences.

Lets not forget that low life profiteer, EB Sledge. Just a surviving grunt at Peleliu & Okinawa. How dare him for writing a book (With the Old Breed) about his experiences! Lets have the relatives of the member of his company who died in combat file a lawsuit. Dont you think they should be compensated?

Youre right comrade! Damn her for surviving the battle. Lets keep her mouth shut. The government and people have nothing to gain from her military experience. She should be censored! Lets make her an example out of her! This should be a lesson to any member of the military who's willing to write a book!

Well to be fair to the Lynch detractors - all the above did at least have the good grace to be conscious during their acts of bravery and could remember them afterwards. ;)

Thats true, however I watched the interview of a father whose son was killed in the incident where Lynch injured and captured. His son died and he wants a piece of the book money. Where does it stop?

Ive been working in fire/rescue for 22 years. If I write a book should everyone that responded to the incident I write about get a piece of the book deal? Should all the victims of the incident get a piece of the book deal?
