lastly, whether or not martinez threw at garcias head, clemens' pitch wasn't in the same boat. manny overreacted, but then again, with tension so high it wasn't really surprising. i think he thought it was coming at his head so he ducked andnever realized it wasnt close.
and as much as it really doesnt apply to this situation, it's not like clemens hasn't done something like that before. so yeah, if martinez is an ass, then clemens is just as much of one. half of pitching (i speak from experience) is intimidation and in a playoff series between these two teams (easily the most storied of rivalries in all of sports) it plays a huge part. pedro prolly wanted to scare the yanks and it got outta hand. i don't think that the motions he made afterwards to the yankee dugout (pointing at his head) were appropriate, either.
i think that if pedro were to get the boot after that pitch, then garcia shoulda been gone after he railroaded todd walker, and clemens shoulda been gone after the high and mildly inside to rameriez. that woulda calmed the game down real quick and reminded the players what their focus shoulda been on.
oh, and zimmer shoulda been tossed regardless. i love hearing these statements about how pedro shoulda been arrested, when it seems pretty damn evident to just about everyone that zimmer was outta control. however, that being said, i thought it was real classy of him to apologize last night and i hope the sox do something in return. that might hafta come from pedro himself though, because no one else was singlehandedly responsible like those two were.
