lastly, whether or not martinez threw at garcias head, clemens' pitch wasn't in the same boat. manny overreacted, but then again, with tension so high it wasn't really surprising. i think he thought it was coming at his head so he ducked andnever realized it wasnt close.

and as much as it really doesnt apply to this situation, it's not like clemens hasn't done something like that before. so yeah, if martinez is an ass, then clemens is just as much of one. half of pitching (i speak from experience) is intimidation and in a playoff series between these two teams (easily the most storied of rivalries in all of sports) it plays a huge part. pedro prolly wanted to scare the yanks and it got outta hand. i don't think that the motions he made afterwards to the yankee dugout (pointing at his head) were appropriate, either.

i think that if pedro were to get the boot after that pitch, then garcia shoulda been gone after he railroaded todd walker, and clemens shoulda been gone after the high and mildly inside to rameriez. that woulda calmed the game down real quick and reminded the players what their focus shoulda been on.

oh, and zimmer shoulda been tossed regardless. i love hearing these statements about how pedro shoulda been arrested, when it seems pretty damn evident to just about everyone that zimmer was outta control. however, that being said, i thought it was real classy of him to apologize last night and i hope the sox do something in return. that might hafta come from pedro himself though, because no one else was singlehandedly responsible like those two were.

And yes the kid was cheering for the sox, and nelson walked up to him and pushed him and swung at him , told him to go cheer in the other bull pen. Then garcia Rt fielder, jumped the right field fence into the bull pen from off the field and kicked him in the head.

Now Moose, ya know I luv ya. You are as much of a die-hard BoSox fan as I am a die-hard Yankee fan but Pedro was wrong and acted like a lil' punk.

You wanna brush someone back..fine. Maybe even tap them with a ball BELOW the neck..fine. He aimed for Garcia's head because he was having a good ole hissy fit. And then by pointing to his head and taunting Posada, all he did was raise emotions another notch.

Now Clemens ball wasn't even close to Ramirez. It was high but over the plate. If anyone was wanting to make a name for themselves during that game (as someone said) was Ramirez. He was expecting Clemens to strike back and looked for anything to mouth off to. Manny was wrong.

As for Zimmer, he was wrong too. If you are in your 70's, you don't charge at someone in their 30's but what Pedro did was ridiculous. That wasn't defensive, that was stupid. I don't care what's going on, you don't throw a 70 year old man to the ground. You step away and try to get someone's attention about the incident.

It is difficult to feel any sympathy for Pedro since his actions started this snowball rolling.

As for the bullpen incident, Nelson and Garcia should be charged if it's proven they started the whole thing. If their emotions got the best of them and decided to take it out on a groundskeeper, they are no better than Pedro.

All in all, that game was disgusting on so many levels. Hopefully, the rain will do more than postpone yesterdays game, it will cool off some tempers. This is the playoffs for cryin' out loud. All that stuff did Saturday was take away from what was a well played game between 2 good teams.

My .02 cents.....

Reporters keep peppering team representatives about what an embarrassment Saturday was, using terms like "disappointment" and "black eye," but I don't know what the hell they're talking about. This isn't an embarrassment. This is a wonderful thing for baseball. This is going to drive ratings through the roof, and FOX knows it. That's why they keep hyping what happened in their promos. That replay of the Pedro Martinez-Don Zimmer affair is on TV more than "Law and Order'' reruns.

Ain't that the truth!  :lol

With everyone desperate for more on Saturday's drama, commissioner Bud Selig lowered the cone of silence, telling each team's executives that they were not to answer questions about the incidents. Minutes after Torre revealed this directive, the entire Red Sox ownership group -- God bless 'em -- walked into the interview room and blatantly violated the gag order with a long news conference about many of the day's events.

When major-league officials got wind of this, the league's chief PR person rushed into the interview room and gestured for the Red Sox to shut up, leave the podium and explain themselves to him right now. And he did it in full view of the media.

And then Yankees president Randy Levine issued a press release, saying because the Red Sox talked the Yankees now wanted to issue a statement. And their statement was that they stood by their earlier comments and had nothing more to say.

Almost makes it worth the trouble to stick around for the post-game interviews!  :rofl
