Got into a nice little fight in my f6 vs a spit something or another. Which is what I wanted to do, fight a spit. Seemed to be going quite well and then wham. Got picked! :rofl :rofl Wow this is just like the MA's. So I left for the LW areanas. My only thought was what's the point of the DA. Can't you guys learn to pick in the MA's or is the DA for special need pickers?

Don't expect a 1v1 in dogfight lake. Not going to happen. Because, see, all those dudes have to kill you so they can get their name in lights and a bunch of WTGs when the land their kills in there! Woot! :rock
However, if you want to get warmed up and get your SA working...furball lake can be a good 5 minute tune-up before heading to the MAs.

Ahhhh I see. Like your idea of the warm up thing. Not so sure why getting your name in lights in that arena is important though.

I use the DA furball lake for target practice before FSO sometimes.
-
I normally find it best for practicing a plane I am learning. For instance I normally fly the P-40 in there, I know I will get a crowd of people wanting me dead in any arena, so this works well. :aok
Just think of it this way, it is a LW arena with MW population squashed into a 4x4 cell. :)

Just for posterity's sake, I'll mention that about 2 years ago or so, the DA had a somewhat different layout and was used differently. At that time, there was no furball lake area and everyone towered-in to A30 at the head of a canyon as Bish. There was no Killshooter so you could kill same country planes. People took up a plane, asked someone right there to duel (sort of like you might in the TA) and moved away a bit from A30 so not to bother anyone else, and had at it. No waiting, no flying 3 minutes to get in range of your opponent. You could have duel after duel after duel, within ten minutes time if you wanted.
There were some basic rules that most everyone followed that made it work. No shooting from the runway at anyone, no vulching or shooting anyone taking off or landing, and you were required to get or give permission to engage with anyone. And for the most part it worked fine. The occaisonal transgressor would get stomped-on by everyone else until they played by the rules. (Read, if they repeatedly refused to adhere to the rules, they got vulched contineously by everyone so they couldn't get off the ground until they promised to follow the rules. Unfortunate policing method, but for a long time it was very effective.)
You could easily find the better AH pilots in the DA at most any time of day and ask to fight, and often they would teach at the same time. They'd let you join their aircraft while they dueled against other accomplished pilots and you could see what they did in a fight first hand. Most everyone followed the rules of engagement after they learned them, but when AH2 really took off with it's commercials, and more and more people signed up for the 2 week trial, we got inundated by spoiled squeaker griefers who just want to hold down a trigger and spray at everything from the moment they spawned. It eventually got worse, though still, 95% of the people played well, but many complained about the griefers to HiTech, asking for some assistance like an MOTD explaining the rules. HiTech responding by simply turning on Killshooter. No more griefers and no more DA as it was.
Alot of people used to spend as much time in the DA everyday as they did in the MA, dueling, learning, and teaching. Now, all you got is 10 to 30 squeaker furballers and the occaisonal grudge duel, or a squad practise. Personally, I think it was a big loss to lose the old DA.
-
Ahhhh I see. Like your idea of the warm up thing. Not so sure why getting your name in lights in that arena is important though.
As if it's important in any other arena?
-
I'm not big on the DA, especially with all the negativity associated to it... But it's a good place, in general, and I think with some minor tweaks it could rise to the level it was as Sloehand mentions.
-
What really funny to me is, that guys form squads in there and never leave. :rofl
-
Ahhhh I see. Like your idea of the warm up thing. Not so sure why getting your name in lights in that arena is important though.
It was meant as sarcasm. Name in lights in the DA is simply ridiculous. The WTGs are even more ridiculous.
But, like I said, you can wade into furball lake and get into a 5v1 pretty easily. I like to use it to work on my SA, practice fighting uphill, or to knock the kinks out if I haven't flown for a while.
Think of it as doing 10 minutes on the treadmill before hitting the weights.
If you're expecting anything more from furball lake, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.
The squads though...the DA-only squads...now THAT might be the funniest thing in Aces High! :aok
-
What really funny to me is, that guys form squads in there and never leave. :rofl
OMG!! You're kidding right!
Dace, As far as name in lights in the other arenas I don't have a problem with it. However, I find it more important to work with my squad as a team player than lone wolfing it for a few kills. Lot of satisfaction in that for me.
-
Rgr... :salute
-
Now that clears up why i got hammered with privage messages from a dude trying to recruit me into some squad there a while back.
It was just some slow evening at MA and i went there to get SA training against multi-ea, managed to kill a few and was rewarded by hailstorm of private messages until the point that i had to leave the DA :D
I never did understood why they were recruiting people into squads there.
But yeah, i use the DA "Spit pick pit" only to warm up for getting picked in MA.
-
Was his name 1pLUs? :D

AHHHHH but in the other arenas these guys can't get their two kills and make it back with out getting picked in the MA's :D
-

Oh yes, and they are very serious about "ownership" of the arena. By "ownership" I mean, whatever they say, goes. Which is basicly no rules, pick, gang, horde, land kills, shout down complaints about their lame behavior, profanity, and rudness.
I personally do not like 1-1 fights happening right in the middle or just off to the side of the "action" as I, personally, have flown into the fight, thinking I am helping out a fellow pilot from my "country" and ruin the 1-1. At no time did I mean to ruin their fun, but I happened into it inadvertently. Hence why those in the DA always hear me stating "tell us or take it to the canyon", as a way to keep it separate.
Landing a kill proves that you can engage the enemy, score victories and return alive. What's wrong with that?
----
If you don't like life in the Furball area of the DA, please stay away. No one will miss you. If you want to blame anyone for the percieved problems of the Furball area of the DA, then take it up with HTC. THEY are the ones who took away H2H where most of us would prefer to be.
Also then I could finally stop hearing the complaint from the MA people that, the DA isnt a real challenge or even an arena and all who play there arnt really playing the game!
-
Ahhhh I see. Like your idea of the warm up thing. Not so sure why getting your name in lights in that arena is important though.
or in any arena for that matter
-
You can fight all the Spitfires you want in the TA without worry of getting sent to the tower for lack of SA.
Unless you smack into the ground of course. ;^)

There are alot of issues lately with the DA, and the mentality in there.
I do like the idea of getting warmed up inna furball though, but when you want to truely 1 V 1 someone, it's going to be difficult. The lake setup does not promote that type of fight IMHO.
As far as the name in lights thing, thats is a setting that we turn off in FSO..... You don't get to see right away who you killed or killed you till the logs are posted.
Maybe changing this would end the "I got my 2 kills W00T!!" mentality and turn it back into a fighting atmosphere. With VOX communications, it's easy to know if the guy your facing off is the one your there to duel.

I'm stupid, like I said before, when it comes to DA........ But as you said... The VOX in there should make it easy for people to setup a 1v1 and then just move to another area of the map. Doesn't anybody do that?

The fight in the DA furball area is pretty much the same as the MA, the only difference is it is filled to the brim with people that have the 'big fish, small pond' attitude with nothing to back it up.
Well, that and they are also demanding H2H to return.

If u are in furball lake ,and that is what it is called :aok Do not expect a 1 on 1 :aok
-
What's even more lame in furball lake is the 30k temp pickers that nail you while you are engaged and then pm you about how you just got owned. But i guess reupping in a temp and sending them back to the tower is enjoyable. :t
-
The problem is all the freebie players from h2h jumping into furball lake. They have their little dweebsquadrons and somehow manage to horde even in DA. Basically, DA furball is like a miniature version of MA LW.
I wish it was like it used to be. A place where people have courtesy and wish to improve/have nice fights on a treadmill. Sure you can ask people for duels but it would be nice to just have a treadmill in the furball area.
Now it's just full of kids who come down from 15k in zeros and either auger or annoy you.
-
What really funny to me is, that guys form squads in there and never leave. :rofl
Ya its like getting ready for the ball, and stayin home eatin tv dinners and watchin M.A.S.H. reruns instead.
-
I've never had a problem arranging a 1v1. Just hollar out on 200, then move over to the appropriate field away from the masses.
-
If u are in furball lake ,and that is what it is called :aok Do not expect a 1 on 1 :aok
Then I guess I would expect a "furball", not a pickfest.
But it has deteriorated into "free for all lake"
Host: Player XYZ landed 8 victories in a P-51.
WOW--that guys gotta be one of the best punkstang drivers ever!!
How many guys you know that can enter a furball(and actually fight) with a p-51 and exit alive? Let alone land 8 kills in a furball?
My guess is that guy wasn't furballing and probably has one of the biggest mouths in the "furball lake".
Just a hunch.
-
I play the DA a lot the past few months and kinda like it when its not too populated. At least you don't have to hunt for action. If anybody sees me in the DA please ask and I will be glad to do all the 1v1 you want at one of the side fields.
-
:noid What I do like about the cess pool, err DA arena, is that you can fight planes that are not the same as yours. Good place for ACM and SA practice. But I tire of it quickly when Tempests blow by at 500 knots, guns blazing head on from 1k out while you're trying to out fly the niki, spit, and hog on my close six. These jokers are not interested in improvement but only interested in landing some kills. They should just rename the place DA/XBOX arena and be done with it. :salute
-
I've never had any problems finding 1v1's in DA either, you just have to ask on 200 and move away from the lake.
I've also had some fun fights at furball lake, it is a great place to work on SA, and fighting multiple cons.
Admittedly there are some real lamers in the DA, but it's not a place to spend all your time, at least I don't think it is.
-
You gotta go at midnight or 1 am. It's actually a lot of fun when when there's only a handful of people there. WHen I could find Agent there we'd go round and round and it was a hoot.
As for the Temptards and Tyfools, generally they have no skill what so ever. Just jump up in an F4U-4 or your choice of anti-dweeb machines and chase em down, They go away after you've hunted them down a few times and the whines are quite entertaining. Other than that, it's just a pickfest and there is no hope of having any type of meaningful fight.
On the other hand, I've never had any trouble finding someone that wants to go to a private field and duke it out 1v1 when I want to.
-
I agree if you can get about a dozen or so people it can be alot of fun. I fly am and have a ton of great fights in the morning. People like Griff, Shane, Sandman, Warpig, Spacy (sometimes), and a few others make for some great fights. They may not be the elite pilots of AH but well worth flying against. I usually look for singles away from the packs and head towards them. It might take a little longer to get going but staying out of a pick fest makes it worthwhile. A lot of new pilots start flying there too providing chances to have fights you wouldnt normally have like 51 vs zeke/hurri. There are some people who will have great fights and die with a smile. Knowing what they fly and where they are is a big help. If you ever see a 51B in a Lightning Lancers skin get ready for some fun.

Wow so many people that never fly there know so much . Some of the squads that formed in there were in answer to one that consistantly outnumbered the rest of the player in the entire da . It has worked pretty well returning balance to the number of players on each side . 1v1's are so easy to get there it just shows your ignorance that so many state it cant be done . Although alot of us far more enjoy 2v2' and 3v3's etc . Yep you will get picked if you target lock at cherry picker lake . How is that different from the MA's ? There is a guy in there that seldom if ever gets picked . I couldn't stand him he was always picking me . I could only very seldom pick him . I get picked alot less in both MA's and DA , listening to one peice of advice he gave me . Sounds like SA could be important element there maybe ? In the DA about 3 out of 10 will do much if any running . I like that alot better then the 9 out of 10 that run in MA , or 7 out of 10 that run from a 1v1 in MA . I fly both MA arenas and the DA about the same amount of time every day so I feel qualified to speak on these things . H2H was before my time so I won't comment on what I know nothing about . I am really bothered by some of the guys that wrote in this thread , who I respect the heII out of . A few I have never seen in the DA . Try cherry picker lake with a good wingman or two . Its a rush when you and wingy(s) are hot and you all land some kills when you been fighting near nme base or just plain outnumbered . It is where I have met some awesome sticks like Batfinkv , Texture , Kazaa who have not only beat me senseless they have passed on some critical instruction to me . Rude behavior is still self policed in the DA . Late last night there were 5 bish flying and 3 of everyone else , the bish wouldnt let a good fight develop . As soon as they lost a merge they ran , 3 of them in runners and 2 of them in turners , fast turners to be exact Ki84 and a 38 , I believe . I switched sides after 30 seconds of flight and joined with a friend I hadn't seen in weeks , and a AOM jonesing for a fight flying 3 country , no it wasn't agent360 this time , Guy named Thias . Started giving them alot of trips to the tower . Then I asked Thias if he wanted to spar a little , we went to an isolated base and had a blast for an hour . 7 or 8 fights against skilled fairly well matched opponets . Two of which left me with that slight shake sweat on my brow feeling I play this game for . How many of those did you guys have yesterday ? Sure there is crap behavior in the DA , but the things I see you complaining about I see far more in the MA . The one that is the worst in my opinion is the Crap talk . However it is way worse on 200 . That will never change unless there is someone there to enforce a decent behavior from those that talk the stuff .
-
Uptown its the same there as the Ma
And that's the point of this entire thread. Stating facts about how the DA has went downhill since they shut down H2H doesn't make me a "negative chump in the closet", but makes you one for hiding in there all the time.

They call it a furball, yet its not a furball .
So if its it not a furball (and we all know its not) then what is it.
Should HT change the name, so that people know that when they enter "furball" lake they won't be entering a furball, they'll be entering a " alt monkey" pick fest?
-

bzzzzzt... it *is* a furball - just one with no defined purpose (landgrab).
-
bzzzzzt... it *is* a furball - just one with no defined purpose (landgrab).
Bzzzzzt... Well that should go without saying in the DA.
What I am saying is that flying at 5k+ over everyone else who IS furballing and swooping down through the fight with guns blazing and running away only to rinse and repeat is NOT furballing.
The bases are already at 5k, why should anyone want to climb so much higher?
You would think that in a furball everyone who actually wanted to fight would want to be more or less co-alt.
Isn't the idea of furball island to fight? Not to see how many kills you can land without actually fighting.
-

A furball is a multi-tiered engagement that includes *all* styles. Just like in any other arena, pickers are a part of one.
I saw this great graphical depiction a while back, but can't find it. It clearly shows what a furball is, including all styles.
-
Is there a 10k alt limit in there?
-
Is there a 10k alt limit in there?
not in FurBlake.... not the grinder... only if *you* and someone mutually agree to such a cap.
FurBlake is a barroom brawl... the little side actions around the edges are akin to standing at the bar raising your shot glass as some idiot slides down the bartop.
-
Can't say that I see a problem with the Furball area. You can still get into duels if you ask... I've jumped in the DA on many occasions to learn a new plane and work on SA/ACM. I get into a bunch of good fights daily. Takes roughly 2mins to engage in a fight... I don't see a problem.
As long as people don't HO or vulch fields I'm usually okay with everyone's style... I welcome people who chase me off their teammates - I expect as much! The idea of chasing one plane down with more than two is kinda ridiculous and I tend to skirt away from those situations as they are usually a waste of E and/or ammo.
I've also met a few good guys that were nice enough to help me out with some of my mistakes.
It seems to me that a lot of you guys are somewhat over-opinionated and quick to judge - expecting too much. I've read over a dozen threads this past week about pickers and they usually translate to (I went to 1v1 someone in the MA/DA Furball and someone snuck up behind me and shot me!) like I said, I just use that situation to practice my SA for a REAL event like the FSO. :aok

I have two problems with the lake.
Kills landed messages promote poor behavior. People are even vultching in tempests for kills. People that will only HO pick and run, only to turn back on you once engaged with someone else. These people are using their large kill messages to make a name and ego for themselves that's quickly leading the newbies there in the wrong direction. I know because I've spent the last week training newbies in there and as 1 person it is difficult to overpower the dweeb horde influence. (hlbly not included :) great fights! :) )
Furballs are fine, but these mega hordes are not. There is a difference.
I can occasionally handle even a 4vs1, but to have 6,7, even 8 or more DA squad members jump in against someone is ridiculous. It's not promoting fights. It's not promoting skill. "Get better SA" is a poor excuse to justify these actions. I see you all coming, that doesn't mean I can or will run away when I'm already engaged with 40% of your squad. Yes this happens in the MA too, but not to such a drastic ratio. How about improving your own skills rather than jumping into a gangfest on some poor sap?
We need to remove kill messages firstly. That will go a long way in changing the attitude. We also need to spend more time in there, hopefully influencing the way things are played. It just seems like most of these score pilots are too egotistical to be perceptive to either criticism or advice.

I spend most of my time in the DA waiting for a good stick or two to come in and get a dual going.
Met a lot of good sticks in there 9 out of 10 though are private 1 v1 that you have to ask for.
If i fly the furball area I always fly to the side looking for a one on one. It is fun to see the lemmings fly off the shelf of the base go right past you headed straight for the furbal. Some like the furbal and are not interested in anything else.
I agree the sadest part is when you get a 1 v 1 and get picked by 5 or more.
It is still worth flying there for me just takes a lot of work to get a 1 v 1.
-
The horde will see those side fights going on with dar and come right in for the gang.
Shane and I are trying to change the general attitude there. It's just very difficult when you're fighting squads of people who don't want to change though (even if you're not preaching to them). How many ways can you tell someone that diving into a 10vs1 as a skwad is wrong?
-
Landing kills in the DA is Ghey. It seems like some of these guys are such skilless dweebs they will do anything to get a kill. I was going round and round with Steel the other day. Prolly on our 6th or 7th turn when some dope in a spit jumps in and drills Steel. Its like you couldn't wait a few more seconds to let us finish? Geez!
Some of crap that goes on in there is pure stupidity. Why would you land kills there? There's no points or rank, it's dumb. Like a bunch of 12 year olds running around, "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME MOMMY". This is made more pathetic by the fact that I know that if I catch them alone I'll grind em up. I can understand a lot of this type of stuff going on in the main arenas, its a war, you kill the enemy at all costs in a war. But in DA, come on. Fight till you go down and get another plane. I spend a lot of time in there trying new stuff out so die a lot. I don't mind going down fair and square and against someone who knows what they're doing, it's a hoot and I learn a lot of new crap. But I hate being dweebed to death. You wanna make score or rank, go to the the MAs and fight with people who are out for blood. This type of thing in the DA is just goofy and sad.
And then I hear "wingman tactics" to explain a chain of unending picks. Of course none of em can fight one on one, but they just keep doing it and act like they are hot sticks or something. Pure retardation. Come on guys, you learn nothing from picking and running, I chimp can pick and run.
One fun thing to do is fight a green dot, first one down wins. if there's more than 20 people there, I won't even bother.
