If the people on my preivous post were wondering, the only options that were avalibe for me to choose since i am doing a DEP enlistment for a year was
11X Infantry
88M Motor Transportation
21B Combat Engineer
14S Air Defense Artillary
(what a cool day to swear in, on D-Day! :rock )

Did you type in the date correctly? You aren't going to boot camp until July 2010? You do realize that the summer at Benning isn't really wonderful.

ya the date is right, I enlist in DEP for a year, since this coming year i'll be a senior in high school, July 19th was the latest date i could ship and get a bigger bonus. The laison cousnulor said that she worked in Fort Benning for 4 years, she said that it'll be miserable in july and most of august but it'll cool down once we hit september, and i'll be there for 15weeks. so i'll finish sometime mid/late October i believe.

Have fun=) remember to work on your PT from now til ship date.

Congratulations, and thank you.

ya, I should beable to get to E-3 BEFORE i ship! All i got to do is get 1 referal for someone to join to get to E-2 and then i need to pass a easy PT test and a basic army knowlege test to rank up another!
-
Stay safe wherever you get shipped off to. <S>

I got to Benning the first week of August. So humid you can actually see the air move when you wave your hand out in front of you. It has a distinct smell that I can still remember too, and I started there in '95. The good thing about starting in the summer is the temp gets better as the runs & road marches get longer. You'll FTX (camping with guns) in December and freeze your butt off actually. :)

Is it true that there is Flying cockroaches in Benning? Someone at MEPS said something about them
-
That's just anywhere deep South. It's not the roaches, it's the skeeters. It's ok though, they haven't killed anyone yet.....this year.
-
Just sent you a PM my man. I hope things work out right for the both of us. Just do what you're told and don't come at it with ANY feelings of entitlement and we'll get through it.
If we wanted a cup of coffee and a group hug, we should have joined the Air Force.

Good luck man, ah the smell of benning, its great, just like a large pan of baked ass. Watch out for the ticks didn't see any roaches there in 2000 when I went. Of course i was a BCT and not an ITB. Bah what ever. FYI it does get cold as a well diggers butt down there as well.

The reason i didnt even think about 88M is because of its new name it got from whats happening in iraq and Afghanistan....... EOD

FWIW, and I make this suggestion seriously. Get in the best shape you can before you go to boot. Seriously work on pushups and pullups with your hands facing both directions. You will need some significant upper body strength and most folks just work on running. Secondly do NOT max yourself out in the first PT test or PT evaluations. Hold back some as they will be watching and EXPECTING improvement in your PT scores. If you go out and your first test score is a 288 out of 300 they WILL expect you to improve considerably as the first few weeks go by. I'm not saying sandbag the first test as you DO need to break a sweat. Just do not go out there and give it all. Copy?

ya, I've been going to PT every tuesday and thursday at the recruiting station. there is always new soldiers there that literly just got back from basic training that do PT with us Army style. we do formation runs, formation everything! we do "Front Leaning Rest Postion" ALOT. Also, Side Straddle hop, front back goes, alot other fun stuff.
My recruiter said i'll easily beable to make rank E-2 before i ship out. all i need to do is pass a PT test at our station, then memorize the Soldiers Creed, General orders, Army values, terrian features, history, chain of command, and i think thats it. i have 14 months to prepare, i'll be in great shape before i leave.

Have fun man the first two weeks were the worst after that you won't want to leave.
-
And another "profesional bullet catcher" is born :rofl That's what we called the Infantry when I was in Artillery.
Seriously though, Good Luck and thank you for your upcoming service. Just remember one thing. The radio operator and the machine gunners are always the first targets the enemy looks for. Take your M-16 rifle and be happy, you'll live longer, plus you don't have to hump as much crap!!! :salute
-
Ft. Benning in the summer! Nothing better than mosquitos, ticks, chiggers, and other creepy crawlies. Have fun and thanks for your service.
-
Congrats on joining up man, my sisters planing on joining the Marines when she graduates, she's 16 now and is in the ROTC, if you looked at her you'd never think thats what she wants to do, her father(my step father) was a Marine so she wants to follow in his footsteps and become a cop like him.
So a big :salute for serving our country. :aok

hehe ticks sux, I was out beating bush just for 6 hours today. Did a tick check at the end of the day and got 3=/. I'm not sure how bad the mossies are at Benning.
-
Good luck man.
Try to get airborne school too. You can probably pull a slot at basic if you are well prepared, if not before.
-
Oh yeah, also make sure to work a lot of ruck marching into your workouts.

Heh. Benning Mosquitos dont fly. They kinda stomp through the woods. I demonstrated Sling-loading a HMMWV to one once...Honest!
