I'm the Snailman and I play Aces High to have fun pretending being a 133t cartoon pilot.
I'm not interested in seeing the country text buffer filling up with topics like
obama is a communist
islam sucks
nuke iran
healthcare is evil
Right now my squelch buffer is full, but I'm still getting lectured by ignorant US squeakers (from 10yo-50yo) about communism, world politics, Obamas citizenship, Bush's presidential merits and evolution being a hoax.
I know you guys have the intellectual horizon of a mite, but it's not necessary to remind us about it all the time. Take it to private or CH200 if you want, but please leave your domestic politics out if the not detunable countrychannel. Most of us are trying to play a game
Or, please HTC, increase the squelch list size!
Now gimme my cheese...
-
it "IS" just a game. Grow a spine dude.
-
You have no "backbone" :noid
-
it "IS" just a game.
you are 100% correct......and to that , there is no call for the stuff Lusche posted about, being brought into the "game"... am surprised people even get away with it...unless there just were no mods around to warn or remove their ability to make themselves look stupid :rofl
Lusche, just report them.........
-
So everyone in the US is like this??
I think your still pissed about WWII. :P
-
Country channel is full of crazy ideological bullpucky. Expand the number you can squelch, please.
-
it "IS" just a game. Grow a spine dude.
Then he's right...all the Oh-pinions from the supposedly educated peanut gallery about anything political, religious, economic, social injustice, etc... Should be kept to non-public comm channels.
Personally, all of the infantile crap on 200 from the supposed 1337 toon pile-its is tiresome...I only keep 200 open for acknowledgements to opposing sticks for doing something that deserves acknowlegement. Even the forums gets tiresome with the juvenile attitudes...it's as bad as a frat house full of pledge dweebs trying to fit in. And the loser 1337 wannabe's throwing the most horse manure are supposedly adults.
-
There is no reason to have such crap discussed in a game for everyone to have to see.
Make the squelch list number infinite.
-
I agree with Lusche. I do not login every night to experience real-life. I save that for my alter-ego.
-
if there was a way for them to feel it when they are squelched. :devil

As I recall, some months ago the HTC "almighty" put up an arena MOTD notifying the player base that political discussions were not appropriate conversation in the game. It is their ball park after all.
-
I agree with Lusche. I do not login every night to experience real-life. I save that for my alter-ego.
-
Anyone who talks politics beyond a quick passing comment should probably go to another venue where political views are being discussed at length. Just sayin'
-
Nevermind
-
I get tired of it too. Its almost as bad as the International forums where a Yank can get piled on by all kinds of world citizens for politics. "As if any of us have a hot line to Obamas office on Policy".
Luckily I cant both play and keep up with a text buffer. 95% of the time I dont even know whats being said on 200.
That said I'd still love to see a permanent squelch feature.
but I'm still getting lectured by ignorant US squeakers
They aren't any sharper in Germany. They just think they are.

im pretty sure you can see .salute without being on 200

There is no reason to have such crap discussed in a game for everyone to have to see.
I agree 110%. Mods should have the ability (if they don't already) to revoke radio priviledges for a min of 30 min per offense for either country channel or 200 channel crap concerning politics or religion. This BBS is not the proper forum, neither is the ingame radio.
Take it somewhere else.
-
I agree Lusche. If folks don't like the shape of things, they should discuss it within their communitys and town meetings. Not a intardnet game. :salute
-
I couldn't agree more Lusche. I log on to have fun - not to listen to a bunch of tards argue politics. My squad has a long standing rule that there is to be NO political talk - period.
-
Luckily I cant both play and keep up with a text buffer. 95% of the time I dont even know whats being said on 200.
200 isn't so bad because you can always detune it. It's country channel political crap that we're complaining about.
-
I agree no politics and no religion please.
The true fact with this game is that I am the best looking pilot in the game.
-
See Rule #4
-
A rule of thumb in any bar(a place where people go to enjoy themselves) should also apply here.
Talk of politics or religion is not considered acceptable banter.
Everyone has their own strong beliefs in these matters and arguments about them never end well. :salute

They aren't any sharper in Germany. They just think they are.
The only difference is: They don't play this game. ;)
-
Religion/politics etc etc SHOULD be banned in all the text buffers - at ALL times - an automatic 2? week comm ban on the guilty party.
***note : "erotic sheep talk" of course would be exempt!! :D :D :D
.....send me those nudie sheep pics eh!
-
I seem to recall a few years ago this issue came up. My recollection is hazy, but I thought they turned off 200 for everyone for a week or two, then phased it back in. Seemed to work for a good while. Anyone recall that, think it was 04 or 05.
Anyway, +1 on this. I am totally against discussion on 200 involving politics or religion unless I agree with the commentary.
-
This must be a LW thing... fortunately MW seems to be devoid of such chatter. But yea, I agree... this isnt the place for it.
-
I just find it funny that these people talking about all this crap on 200 think that their opinion actually matters, and that we actually care to hear it. I had 200 de-tuned for a while, but it sucks not being able to talk to people I actually WANT to talk to. Some of the talk is disgusting, especially the open racism that I see on a near daily basis. In America, we have free speech, but Aces High is not the forum for every idiot to spout their ideologies. Your $15/month doesn't buy you a soapbox to stand on. There are rules to being in the "club". Shut up and play. If you want to act like a moron, please do so within the context of the game.
-
Just to make it clear again. I wasn't talking about 200
But about the non-detunable country channel

.squelch 2 would be a fair compromise. :D

Kids are kids. Anywhere. Your "but I'm still getting lectured by ignorant US squeakers (from 10yo-50yo)"
smacks of arrogance and condescension. if i were of the same type I might call it "typical" of Germans".
We know who plays this game. Probably 95% are Americans. And most of us are proud of who we are.
Your point is well taken and most of us agree. Next time leave out the tribal references.

Can I still squeak about getting shot down all the time and not being able to hit a damn thing? :furious

You shouldn't try so hard to be insulted...

Man if that was the only thing we had to deal with in the buffer, the squeaking wouldn't be annoying.
-
I agree with Lusche.
Next time I fly online (which i hope is soon), I hope there is a 'permasquelch' feature on the client side of the game where I can maintain an infinite list of permanently squelched IDs.
Sometimes I wish I could just make the radio buffer disappear completely.
-

oh yeah how about the ability to turn off the text buffer all together. :aok
-
Here is an idea....don't read it.
Like ranting about the ranting solved anything, accept maybe you feel better, Lusche.

why dont HTC just give us the ability to detune from the country channel altogether? the only two channels I want to be able to see in the text buffer is my squad channel and vox channel

Not only is he going to say what Luche was thinking. He's also going to tell me what I was thinking.
Gotta be a lawyer.

I like the idea of being able to hide the chat screen altogether, perhaps shift + ` could do it.
-
its not just kids, my 11 yearold plays and talks about aces high never politics or other meaningless stuff. but he has had to listen to so-called grown men whine and cuss at him for killing them. from death threats to rude remarks about his mother and worst. lusche is right should be able to permanently squelch someone from all channels forever. the same person who lost vox for long time for death threats made same again. of course said person is using a new name.

The only GREEN text I read is preceded with ALERT or NOE ROOKS... at times that causes me to notice other text and everyone knows its easy to get my dander up on these topics. Having said that I have to point out that the way YOU respond to some of these discussions only encourages a more robust debate.

In reality, they are suppose to be doing this. I for one have strong views and I keep my mouth shut just because I'm in the game for the game.

HTC clearly stated that Politics, Religion or Government have no place on channel 200.
-
I like political chat on 200 or country... A large community of adults can give you many angles to consider.
-
Wait, you mean Obama wasn't delivered by communist nurses in a nationalized health service hospital to parents who in fact are really Nancy Pelosi and Satan?
Who knew!
ps: I agree, the political BS on country channel should be considered a strong no-no. 200 is bad enough.

This is where I'm at, too. I agree with Lusche's sentiments but then he goes and engages in the same thing himself - as if to mimic in that typically American liberal trait of calling out the capitalists among us as troglodytic ideologues while attempting to advance the "non-ideological enlightened & educated" economics of socialism (as if anyone who's studied economics at even the undergrad level thinks of it as credible economic thinking and as if somehow their own position wasn't ideological).
There, now I've done it too, Lusche. Tell me it doesn't leave you with mixed feelings.
Otherwise, yes, yes, yes... tell them to shut the hell up, allow the massive squelch. Just leave the collateral free-fire out of the post.

So, do I? I'm initiating taking part in political discussions on countrychannel in game? Trying to spread any kind of political agenda there?
Because that's all I'm talking about. Ingame. Channel 2 "country". Spam.

Wow.... I mean, wow. :huh
Look here. It's just a plain fact that it's Americans who spam country channel with politics. It's not Snailman, Kazaa, Manurin, Turner, Pjk, wmaker, or any of the other non-American players. And let me tell you something else, I'm American and I don't enjoy hearing my countrymen spout off sound-bites they learned on TV. I don't share my political opinions on country channel where others are a captive audience, and I expect the same courtesy from them.
Just because our country played a major role in WW2 60+ years ago isn't an excuse to act like jerks.

Being American is all about Freedom. Unfortunately Freedom of speech allows stupidity to be spoken. It's very hard to sway a political veiw of others and those that attempt it on a game are wasting thier time. Some of the problems in the USA are with the apathy of many of the people with only 50% of the citizens voting.
Get off the Game and get your Neighbor to Vote or shut up.
But in my opinion:
Yes we are the Greatest Country.
Yes we have done more for Freedom over the years than any other.
Yes we protect the freeworld so other countries don't have to invest in thier military.
Yes we win wars and Give the Territory Back.
Yes we make mistakes but attempt to right past wrongs.

OOPS, they are NOT suppose to be doing this. (Correction of an earlier post)
-
The only way to do the topic justice is to discuss it thoroughly. Which means a high volume (and the text buffer's tiny) of off-topic text that's usually also inflammatory and definitely works against the game regardless of how polite it's discussed.
So if you really want to discuss it, do something like Nuke did, start a forum and invite everyone to discuss it all there. Or if you don't have the time/patience to start such a forum, find one and rally everyone there. The discussion'll be completely uncensored and the game will be better off from it.

Just to make it clear again. I wasn't talking about 200
But about the non-detunable country channel
I agree. It got so bad yesterday that several people including myself was asking that it cease (to no avail). So I just started squelching those involved. Then while on Squad Channel, a long winded political discussion began and went on to such extent that nothing could be heard on range channel (tactical information re location of enemy etc) so I just said that I was leaving the squad channel. Afterwhich, I had a Squaddie (yep a Squaddie) question my loyalty to the troops by asking me if I had ever been to Iraq. Notwithstanding that my comment was only meant to indicate that I was leaving the squad channel so that I could hear the range channel, this squad member presupposed that I was being critical of troops in Iraq. Aces High is a hobby for me and I play the game for the fun and entertainment that it provides; and even though I have always remained silent when the political issues were being discussed and just squelched them without ever asking that such conversations cease, I did not appreciate the insinuation that I was being critical of troops in Iraq. Especially, since I spent 21 years in the Military, beginning with Nam. I do not need to be in Iraq to know what our troops are experiencing and certainly do not need to here this on a game played for its recreational and entertainment value.

Of course when we speak of "down" speaking about countries and their politics of course we are talking about:
Those Heathen Rooks and their lack of regular bathing habits!!

Or, a better response would be:
of course not, though doubtless some ideologues, practicing the tired old us-versus-them ways of the past, might characterize my post as such. I'd really expect, though, that the vast bulk of the AHII clientele are enlightened and educated enough to move beyond that... (and accept what I say as self-evident truth and completely objective and apolitical).
Except Lusche, of course, who secretly wants to throw your grandmother out in the snow-covered streets.

Skuzzy,
Please simply forward the idea of "turning off" all radio channels, country and local included, to those that may decide upon it.
It seems every day I log on, it's there...politics/religion/evolution.... It impacts my enjoyment of the game, and gives me another reason not to renew each month. Many on both sides just can't let it go, and the discussions proceed directly under your MOD's noses, who are too preoccupied with muting someone who types "p-o-o-p".
As it were, this thread is already devolving into ideology.
I feel Lusche's request is a valid and important one.
-
Please simply forward the idea of "turning off" all radio channels, country and local included, to those that may decide upon it.
This will never happen, and for a good reason.
Hitech has shown in the past that the "community" aspect of this game is really a very important consideration. He want people getting into contact with each other, not a fully anonymous environment.
Some of you may remember that this was one of his main arguments for the Arena Split: In his opinion player numbers were simply getting too big to allow for real interaction & communication. Also the squad size limit of 32 was imposed for similar reasons.
So I doubt we will ever have the option to block every & all communication.
-
There's enough of this crap in reality. Please do not include it in "virtuality".

Well, the last I noticed, two way radios still have an off switch... Would be nice to have one on the radios in game...
Or, at least full frequency control, so we could eliminate this problem if we wish.. This isn't saying that I would turn
the radio off permanently, as that would be unadvisable, and counterproductive to success in the game... But, I hardly
play online anymore because of the BS that I read on the text buffer, or on voice... Just isn't worth reading or listening
to the schoolboy crap, of any kind, anymore.. Last time I played online was three weeks ago, about a 1/2 hour... Before
that was another 3 weeks or so... Got on, landed 2 kills, some fathead immediately starts with the poop talk, Logged off!!!
Happens every time!!! So, I just don't go online anymore... Problem solved!!!
Hoping it will change at some point, but I doubt it!!!! It is NOT a good thing for the game...

Hilarious... somebody in the AHII community hasn't gotten past the "dookie" stage. That's saying something because it seems like it's kind of an older community.

Missed it too, thankfully I think.
I think I can paraphrase George C Scott here, from "Patton" - "America and the English, two nations separated by a common language." :lol
All this dead horse beating considered, I think we all ought to start playing an active part in cleaning up the problem instead of complaining on the BBS like we have - I for one plan to .report .report .report next time I see anything political or religeous on country or 200. As much as I hate to be the one crying to the teacher 'cause Little Johnny made a face at me, the reality is - as a community - we're going to have to be largely self-policed, and that won't happen if the things that are disagreeable aren't brought to the attention of the powers-that-be.
Who's with me in being proactive for the benefit of us all?

Indeed. I was out doing some MA hunting only to run across one of those self-appointed traffic cops and his crayon playbook.
I always take the Sontaran approach to them: "the only person I call sir is my Squadron Leader". I probably should've had a little "fragging incident" but instead I just went on my way.
That reminds me, I was chasing a P-51 the other day in my G-14. Of course, he was running me a bit but there were other friendlies about causing him to have to maneuver and bleed speed. I thought I was about to get the kill when he blew apart as the result of a HO from a rapidly approaching friendly. I was not hit by his fire, though the tracers sure were pretty.

Aw shucks. You gotta admit it was clever. You're the boss though. :aok

I did not read the whole thread, but I will add that this issue has cost HTC subscriptions. While the people into this hobby trend pretty conservative, not everybody who enjoys this subject is conservative. Having a few, ill informed, loud mouths pontificating to an audience that just wants to indulge in a shared interest in WWII aviation and/or online PvP is rather rude. This goes for any liberals who feel the urge to preach as well, put a stop in it and shoot somebody down.
Respect our differences and just log on to play. If you feel the need to go into politics, there are many forums that cater to that as well as talk radio and certain TV channels.
-
Even some with these same players.
It's a better solution to mute the offenders.
-

Rendering the argument... moot.

It should be your own option, if you choose not to listen or read anything. I agree on the "community" aspect of this game, which is for the most part, incredible and fun. Lately, there are nights when it is absolutely disgusting and ignorant, and I feel, as a paying consumer, I should also have the option to block it.
If I had a child who wanted to play this game, right now, I'd demand to block all of it.
-
Even some with these same players. It's a better solution to mute the offenders.
It certainly is a better option.
I nominate that one of HT's staff must monitor all public radio channels, of all three countries. This ensures a muting will be earned. The MODs certainly aren't doing it.
Viable? Nope.
Just allow detuning of any radio, until you have a working mute system in place.

I'd make my kid listen and tell him, "see son, you're going to grow into a chimp like that if you don't listen up and start acting right!"

you know that HTC is only about 6 employees total +/-
and you should know if you have played this game long enough, that MODs are not always online and on every country in every arena...day in and day out.....
it is not that the MODS certianly aren't doing it, it is done and with out any bias, as long as a MOD is online and witnesses it happening.....
or have you not seen all the threads on these boards of others who have been warned/muted/ejected etc...... for their ill advised behaviour?
but I suppose, if you are willing to foot the 18 paychecks , for a 1 new HTC staff member to sit 24/7 for each different Arena ( that is 18 new employees solely for monitoring every arena on every country ) ( outside of the TA and/or the SEA while events are happening ), then by all means......I am sure dale ( hitech ) would gladly take you up on this offer......
-
T-Chaser, I think you missed the part of his post where he said "Viable? Nope."

I know you guys have the intellectual horizon of a mite, but it's not necessary to remind us about it all the time.
I agree with your OP with regards to stopping the political nonsense in the text buffer, Snailman/Lusche.
I resent your implication that I am ignorant by virtue of my citizenship.
I think I can paraphrase George C Scott here, from "Patton" - "America and the English, two nations separated by a common language." :lol
It was George Bernard Shaw. I had to google it. I always thought it was Churchill.

Can you explain to me where he implicated that you were ignorant because you're an American?
As someone who was born and raised in the United States I agree with his entire post...
-
I resent your implication that I am ignorant by virtue of my citizenship.
I didn't imply anything about you.
It's a mere fact: all "offenders" were Americans. Almost everytime I have to start to mass squelch due to politics it's US players only, and their domestic political issues.
The term "ignorant" was clearly referring to those guys exclusively
I didn't say they were ignorant "because". I never used any word like "typical"
I even agreed with bombrich's statement that German squeakers aren't brighter. I said "only diffence: They don't play this game". But that went unnoticed, of course.
It's funny how people read things into my posts. A patriotism reflex maybe...
-
You should have read what I first said.... It was absolutely fabulous.......
Sadly, too many political statements (as examples) were in it. I agree about it inGame as well. But I also made mention that outside the Fatherland, but still on the rails, he may hear the same fool's talking about foolish things.

None of them were any political statements. I didn't present any VIEW or opinion on any of those topics, nor did i say anything about the particular opinions of the players arguing. You still don't knoe how I think about those.
I just wrote down all the topics that were debated on countrychannel.
I'm done, my point is clear. No sense in pushing this issue any further here.

I'm sorry but.... I was talking about MY statements bruder............. And perhaps the sad truth here is, to a large extent, I agree with you. Why you getting all angry about it?

You know... I squelch political science majors too. It is annoying, even if I basically agree with what is being spewed into the text buffer...
That said, I don't find it any more (or less) annoying then all the idiots who constantly type song lyrics into the buffer.
Both are useless drivel, as far as Aces High is concerned. At least you can .report the politics guys, I'd be interested to get Skuzzy's opinion on using the .report to silence the song lyrics nonsense as well...
-
It's funny how people read things into my posts. A patriotism reflex maybe...
After a re-read, I concede that your OP slams some US guys, not all.
BTW, I volunteered for the USAF. I do not see patriotism as an insult. Must be my ignorance.
-

I agree with Lusche, mods are quick to mute some minor language infractions, but let drivel stream endlessly across the text buffer.
There should be a clear and concise message on the MOTD or some form of pop-up that states what is not acceptable. I have no wish to read line after line from some obscure song from 1956 or read my fellow subscribers latest political thesis; gun control, health care, Obamism or any other drivel. "You see the sniper shoot that guy on that dvd? there's no way he done that" "yes he did, I was there" "anyway, obama is stealing all our guns" "Betcha it's the UN as my grandpa told me" blah, blah, blah and more blah.
-
Im not in disagreement by any means, so dont take this post that way....... however...... if the whole "community" aspect that Ive heard so many times from top to bottom in this game is going to exist, guess what....... people are going to talk about whats on their minds...... otherwise
taking that into perspective....... I also dont think I should have to read about your car, your dog, what airshow you were at, what chuck norris would have to say, how your kids are doing, how your week went, hows your job, or anything else whatsoever you have to type that is not strictly related to what is going on in said arena at said time period.............
if we are going to keep country channel to the standard that its only there for important communications about whats happening on the map........ then keep it that way and no personal discussions of ANY nature whatsoever... save that for tuned or private channels.....
-

Or, if they do, they're not stupid enough to tip their hands. As Mark Twain once said, "better to be silent and thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt".
That is one thing I might generalize to my countrymen. They tend garrulous - with the emphasis on tend.
-
Skuzzy,
Please simply forward the idea of "turning off" all radio channels, country and local included, to those that may decide upon it.
I'd reckon a strategically placed 1" x 5" strip of duct tape would mute that buffer for ya :D

Why do some men tend to behave as frigid mothers towards other men behaving as men naturally do?
As long as no threats or derogatory commenting is being made then simply let people express themselves. It is a meek individual who insists on silencing what is not savory to their own mind.

Generally, I like this sentiment. However, let's remember, this is a subscription service and the complaints come from paying customers. I say give 'em the flexibility to hear what they want because a satisfied customer base will best serve all of our wants.

It will not stop the whiners. These guys will find "something" to whine about. Always. I can only deduce their mothers held them too much when they were infants.
Come on guys. Next thing you know you will be demanding that HTC deliver a box of tampons with every subscription.

completely missing the point. our country ch was solidly spammed with BS, preventing any country coordination or game-related communication. plus HTC have explicitly said that ingame is not the place for this kind of thing. the opinions expressed were childishly simplistic trolls. its has FA to do with censorship or sensitivity to others views. I have no problem with people expressing themselves, just not ingame on country ch.

Indeed I agree. I logged in last night to some gentleman ( I use the term loosely ) telling watermelon jokes about Barrack. I as well as anyone enjoys a great laugh but who wants to pay monthly dues to hear that ignorant racial crap..and by the way he was reported... EXTENSIVELY . I guess this as well as the game is an open forum with free speech and the squelch feature is in place for that reason but good god the list needs to be larger ,because there are a few I keep on auto- perma sqeulch as soon as I see them online. I won't say there names you all ready know who they are :noid :O

To answer your questions no and no but seems to me you are equally as guilty as those you mention complaining about others. Honestly no disrespect intended but I got a little smile reading someone complaining about other people complaining about people. I always find that humorous even when it is pointed out when I am doing it.
I personally get the craps of watching the text buffer fill up with junk like that too and most of the time squelch those individuals involved, but the main thing here is HTC has said that there should be no discussing of politics in the boards or in game.
-
I got a little smile
well then, the effort wasn't a total waste ;)

Yes. I come to this place to discuss, by my choice.
I go to that place to play a game and not discuss, (unless it involves tactics or killing YOU) by my choice, and per my subscription.
You figure it out.

Yes, I do have it figured out.
I pay for my subscription and don't want to see/hear/read it as per Hitech's rules for usage. If you seriously cannot shut up and just PLAY a game without invoking politics, religion etc.. seek psychological help now.
Perhaps you might go to a movie and talk about politics there.

I have to agree with the OP.
The country channels are full of political BS. Personally I think they are much more annoying then CH200. 200 has alot of "Rook Runstang you suck you dweeb" type of name calling but I personally dont find that nearly as annoying as the stuff that gets discussed on country.
I do find it annoying to read political discussion of narrow minded rednecks that speak about the world as if they had a clue.
Most of the time I try to just not read chat at all but sometimes I cant help my self.

By all means, give us an OFFSWITCH for the chatbuffer!!!!
So I don't have to read the comments, from selfimportant elitist buttnuggets, who are so ideologically blinded, that they refuse to acknowledge the truth, even when it is smackin'em in the head...
This road has two way traffic... ;)
In reality, chatbuffer acts like a Morse key... Fighters wouldn't have it anyway!!!

Interesting... When I wrote it, the word potato was not used. In fact, I used a word composed of the same letters we use to denote a Head-On merge.
Someone has kindly subsitituted "potato" for that word.
I'm kind of surprised that one didn't pass the screen.
I was about to do a little test of about 30 similar "near obscenities" - words like skank or boofer.
Unfortunately, I'd probab ly run afoul of rule #6.
It's hard to tell what's acceptable here sometimes.

So the obscenity filter is automated... That's excellent.
Let's just try a few here:
pushing limits
Yep, those all seem to work.
tread carefully here, they do still monitor manually though and do have tendancies to slap people around for pushing the limit too much.

I'll bet it was my use of the term "snakehandler".
