Yes! Another thread about it! (Ack-Ack made a fine one, I just didn't want to get it locked [bump]) ;)
Okay. I just got it today (I never get videogames at their release date). It seems so strange yet so similar to Fallout 3.
Things I like and don't like (in contrast to Fallout 3) :
Like- Cowboy styling, western atomsphere, new guns, ability to make new ammo, Wasteland Survival Guide (Which I created in a past life :aok ), reputation for different "factions" instead of as a whole, new creatures, getting something from those Centaurs almost every time (blood?), dynamite!
Dislike- Cowboy styling, western atmosphere, no Three Dog, new system of "eating" meat and things for health EX: +2 Rads 2HP/15s, where the H-E- double hockey sticks is the Brotherhood of Steel? I thought they had the HQ in California? (Further on? :headscratch: ), very boring start (IMO, not like Fallout 3 where you escape, and it has that initial action that brings you in), tutorial?
Needless to say, I'm still addicted to Fallout 3 and will likely play the both of them nonstop for a while to come. Fallout 3 is a classic and Bethesda and Obsidian have raised the bar on this type of videogame, I hope New Vegas delivers.
This is just a preliminary post, if people reply, I'll keep talking about it as I make my way through the game. Thanks.
Merry Christmas to you all <S>

I bought it on the release date, but strung it along as long as possible. I have now uncovered every marked location in the game, lol. And the Brotherhood of Steel IS out there... Just gotta find 'em ;)

BoS isn't a major faction, but they are there, albeit well hidden.

Word to the wise: Do NOT walk around wearing their armor. Everyone else will shoot you, lol
-
Why aren't they a major faction? Supposedly in D.C. they were huge and then at their home state... They're nothing to spit on? :huh
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I wanted so badly to pick up where I left off in Fo3, as a member of the Brotherhood of Steel! Oh well, I'll just buy the expansion for Fo3 and realize my dreams in that way. "The Pitt," anyone? :rofl
New Vegas is going to take some getting used to, that is for sure. So far it hasn't gotten even close to the level of awesomeness that Fo3 possesses. Can anyone please tell me the game picks up soon and gets better?! :cry

The brotherhood of steel is around, and they actually can play a big factor in the storyline, nomatter what path you take you will run into them eventually and by doing so will decide the fate of there chapter.
(mini spoilers)you can get power armor without BOS markings on it, but it doesnt really matter, cus if you play the storyline right (if your going with the ncr) you can have them sign a peace treaty where they are neutral to eachother.
(mini follower warning) you can have a BOS member as a follower right off the bat, shes at rest stop 188. named veronica i believe, talk to her, when she asks you how you feel about the BOS just choose the most possative answer, and she will reveal to you shes part of them. then you can ask her to follow you as a partner, after awhile she will wish to go back to the BOS, and take you with her. this is where you will find where they are. this is really the only way you can meet the faction on "neutral" terms.
reason why they arent a big faction around(mini spoilers): its because the BOS and the NCR just got out of a bloody war between eachother. the BOS was better equiped and trained then the NCR, but the NCR had superior numbers, and ended up taking over arizona. a good example of this is HELIOS 1. that place USED to be the brotherhood's arizona chapter's HQ, till the NCR assaulted it, there were many casualties on both sides, the BOS held off the NCR best they could, but they eventually just ran out of ammo, and had to retreat. the arizona chapter is under a lockdown protocal right now, because they fear that the NCR is still hunting them. this is the reason why you dont see any of there patrols or see them in major force like out east.
if you have any questions just ask me, ive beaten the game for every ending, and pretty much got 100% completion.
-
They should make a Fallout 4, which gives you many options from the start.
Load previous weapons from FO3? Start as a beginner? Start as a member of the Enclave or BoS and then venture out? What happened after the purifier? What happened to the Enclave and the BoS? What happened to "The Good Fight?" What happened to the Capital Wasteland!?
All questions I really wish Bethesda would answer... in the form of a videogame.

well you see...fallout has its own "bible" (they call it a bible) that the original developers created, which outline the route the games are to take as they are made. bethesda cant change how the storyline will go. but dont worry there is gonna be a fallout 4 and many other fallouts.
and (mini spoilers) you can find a few remnent members of the old original enclave in new vegas, through a followers quest. find "arcade gannon" at the old mormans fort in new vegas, take him as a follower, then go to some familier places (like the crashed vertibird) it'll trigger his quest which is you gather all the remaining enclave in new vegas and decide what side they fight for. arcade can teach you how to wear power armor and the "enclave remnents armor" is the best armor in the game.

So... You can create your own faction? :x Do I get to be President? :D
Also, PLEASE tell me there is a way to get the radiation limb healing perk or something like it. I always got it at the start of Fallout 3 and never had to play without it. I can't walk through the Mojave with a dragging foot and having these mini siezures all the time! :cry

lol you dont get your own "faction" but if you take the wild card ending, you take control of new vegas and the securitrons.
and no they took that out, in FO3 it was possable to pretty much become a walking god, with all it's OP'ed weapons and abilities. obsidian took that all out so it would feel more like every second was a fight for survival.
are you playing on hardcore mode? on regular mode, docs/stimpaks/sleeping heals limb. but on hardcore mode only doctor's bags heal limbs.
-
No, not hardcore mode. Although I played FO3 at VERY HARD for pretty much most of the game (multiple times), this one just kicks the crap outta me, I'm at easy, and I'm barely above surviving. (Could've been the radscorpions and the 5,000 powder gangers attacking at once) :furious
I'm trying to figure out who the good guys are? NCR? Because my bro started playing my game and I think he severely wizzed off some Powder gangers and NCR guys (then saved). Can I just make it up to them? If so, how? They shoot when I get near, I am so, so lost. This game is so unfamiliar. :cry
Although the western theme (doubled with my blown back hair and full out mustache/chops to add to the cowboy hat) is growing on me.

The "Good Guys" are whoever you think they are. New Vegas put me in some VERY tough moral situations, lol. The hardest for me was deciding what to do about new vegas... both sides seemed right, and it was tough to decide how to handle house...
But I digress. The game gets easier as you go along. Nowadays I can take on 13+ powder gangers at once with nothing but my trusty cowboy repeater and not flinch. And yes, I'm in hardcore mode.
If the powder gangers hate you AND the NCR, start over, you're boned.

theres no for sure "good guy" in this game, every choice you make is gonna negativly effect somebody some way.
its like the DLC for FO3. "the pitt" every choice is a morally grey choice. if you want me to tell you all the endings i will.
and dont worry about the powder gangers, they are hated by allmost everyone except the great khans, so you get bad rep for siding with them, and they dont have any useful tech unless your an explosive lover. where you can get dynomite and an explosive perk for free.
-
So if NCR and Powder gang hate me, start over? Can I not make them friendly again?
-
So if NCR and Powder gang hate me, start over? Can I not make them friendly again?
not if your vilified. no
-
So it is much like Rivet City in FO3, you screw them over, and they're finished with ya?
-
So it is much like Rivet City in FO3, you screw them over, and they're finished with ya?
Yeah, and NCR is EVERYWHERE lol
-
So it is much like Rivet City in FO3, you screw them over, and they're finished with ya?
yes. the only faction you can truly screw over to the point that your "vilified" and they will forgive you for it is the legion, and they'll only do it once.
but you dont HAVE to start the game over if you arent going for the ncr sided ending of the game.
and a little note that might interest the AH community:
(mini spoilers) theres a mission with a faction called "The Boomers" (they are nicknamed this because of the artillery they posess) where you have to lift a 200 yr old b29 superfortress out of the bottom of lake mead. this mission has some rl facts behind it due to there actually being a real b29 superfortress as the bottom of lake mead that crashlanded there.
the boomers restore the b29 to flying condition at there airfield and will use it to aid you in the battle for hoover dam by droping mini nukes on the legion as they raid the dam. they nickname the bomber "Pearl" after there overseeer.
-
Okay. So I'm guessing what basically happens is...
Find Liberty Prime, the remnants of the BoS, high-tail it to the Hoover Dam, have a huge malfunction, go into a highly irradiated chamber, kill yourself so that the people of the Mojave live long and non-irradiated lives.
(I haven't seen much radiation around.... at all).

:lol not even close. liberty prime isent in NV. i dout we'll ever see him again (even tho he was pretty cool robot)
theres 3 major players at the dam battle: The NCR and the Legion. all other factors pretty much become small helping factors.
but depending on what path you took, you can become the biggest factor by using your securitrons.

I know, I was joking around. I could really use his lasers for when I am walking around at night and get jumped by 3-4 flippin' deathclaws! :lol

DONT go to quarry junction, or dead wind cavern.

Okay, weird thing, it appears that in the NCR village, I have been vilified, but when I enter the NCR Ranger Outpost, they acted friendly and never even looked twice at me... :headscratch:

which "ranger village"? you mean one of there outposts or camp forlorn hope or camp golf?
-
I dunno, but I think it was west of Novac. I didn't really look.
(Game is already freezing up on me... damn) :uhoh
-
Alright, I got Boone, he killed off the perp who sold his wife. Apparently I'm still in good terms with the NCR, it was just the powder gangers that had taken the correctional facility who were angry with me, not the NCR officials themselves.
The Ranger station was Station Charlie. Just found out they were kaput and told the guy in Novac and then I gained fame from the NCR (you people lied?) :D I also learned a ranger move fromn the crippled guy, but I don't know what a "power move" is... That isn't from FO3 from my memory.
-
Another word of wisdom from a fallout veteran: Don't go to far off of the main roads if your playing at night. It was 2am and I accidentally wandered into the quarry, I heard a loud noise, and saw the deathclaw. I don't think i have ever screamed that loud before, but I managed to wake up my parents, and give Serenity a startle because we were both in an xbox live party.
In short: when your paranoid don't play fallout.
-
I mastered FO3, so don't think I'm not well acquainted with the game layout. I've now gotten the hang of most of the things in the game and now I'm playing on Hard.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO PLAY FALLOUT 1 AND 2... :rofl
Just to tell ya. Arizona isn't where the Brotherhood of Steel started... Try California instead

the move the ranger teaches you is an unarmed stun move, you can execute it by running towards your enemy, and then suddenly backing up while holding the attack button, he'll do a spinning low kick which will nock down other human opponents. i use it against the legion alot.

I've played those, I just want an updated version.
And I thought part of the game was in Cali? Or is it just called the New CALIFORNIA Republic for craps and giggles?

the game takes place on the cali/arizona border. you start out in california.

Um, are we playing two different games? Mine starts in Nevada, and takes place entirely in Nevada (Think Vegas ;) )
Goodsprings is in Nevada, and you can see new vegas in the background of the opening scene.
-
You people are just messed up! Lol. BTW, does anyone know if the story line for FO has ever been released? I'd say probably not, but it would be nice to know if it ever goes to China, to finish off them thar commies ;)

i mistook nevada for arizona, but we are both wrong.
it takes place some in california and mostly in nevada. the town of nipton is right on the border, go there and you will see the two signs that say "now entering california" and "now entering nevada"

LONG LIVE THE LEGION!

-
Pshhh, I kill Legionary folk all the time. It almost isn't fair. The ones in Nipton know what I'm talking about :aok Level 2 power!!!! :lol
-
Legion HUH!
I've wiped the legion off the map twice already.
BTW (Spoiler) Caesar has something interesting.
Couple of stealth boys, good load of frags and a good sniper rifle will clean out the whole nest.
-
I destroyed the NCR completely, got the Boomers to blast them with their B-29, helped the legion cross the dam. Did every quest doing the most screwed up path and sent the Mojave into complete horror
-
Now all you must do is act as though the outback is the Mojave and you can have Fallout fun all you want to. Pack some grenades, a lever action rifle, you'll be set :aok

Anyone know where I can buy an NCR flag online? My goal while in California: Replace as many California flags with NCR flags as possible :D

Does anyone here know how I can get Rose of Sharon Cassity to follow me to Freeside? I tried everything and not one thing I said made any difference. Am I supposed to find her caravan papers somewhere and destroy them? I've tried everything and I have wanted to smash my controller into my head a few times... :furious

go to the crimson caravan, start doing jobs for the boss there, after awhile she will offer you the job to convince rose to sell her caravan company to crimson caravan. you have to have a high enough speech to convince her to do it,and once you do. she will sell you her company and then you can ask her to travel with you.
warning: dont immediatly take her to the van graffs. i'll try not to give big spoilers, but just wander around with rose for awhile and she will ask you to investigate something with her.
lets just say theres some dirty buisness going on between the van graffs&crimson caravan against rose

I remember the Van Graffs... Apparently there are really easy ways to do it... Unfortunately, I chose to do it the hard way, lol.

Okay, I'm over that whole thing ATM. Can anyone tell me how Caravan works? I try to play it and even when I have a spread out deck and I have cards that have the capability to go in "numerical order;" I still manage to get to the point where none of my cards will play? :furious :headscratch:

thats one thing about the game i could never understand. i hear the point is to get all 3 hands between 24-26. (26 highest) (24 lowest) and you can put cards in your opponets deck to overload there count, with which they will have to start over
-
I can never get the cards to work, the card will always appear red, even when it is going in numerical order.
-

i think that means that the card your playing will force your deck over 26

Nevermind, I figured it out.... Wow, it's actually easy to play.

Bump.

I just got done playing New Vegas. I really got lazy with this game and turned on god mode, (tgm). I was mainly interested in the storyline than building up my character. I did the first as an evil character and sided with the Legion. The next time I sided with Mr. House. At the end of that one you have to fight Legate with his sword. Even on god mode he put up a fight with endless minions coming to his aid. I cant imagine fighting him noraml settings. They dont make enough super stimpaks in the game!
Ill probably go back to it again and play normal, but the game wigs me out looking at it too long. Get all bugged eyed. I love the Fallout games, but if given a choice, I prefer the Hitman games just a little more. Theres more freedom to them, as you arent tied to a storyline and restricted by it.
-
Filth, when fighting the legate there is a slight, not glitch per say, but advantage you can use; it sort of takes advantage of the poor coding with rocks. There is a slight ledge near the tents (when entering the area with tents, tents to left, ledge to right) and you can crouch there and pick away at them with the gun of choice (I used Incinerator and about 4 different unique guns just to get him alone!). He and minions can shoot you but it is a good spot to hide for the battle. I actually started by laying ~30 mines of varying sorts around the place. :)
As a warning, anyone who has the dog (Rex I think) don't give him any guns you don't mind losing. If you enter a Casino when Rex has guns they won't give the guns back some of the times, lost a lot of progress due to having to reload an old save due to it (or lose 6 unique guns!).

As you go on and do some quests for the NCR you will start to learn the back story of what happened to the BoS and the Enclave after the battles for HELIOS and the First Battle of Hoover Dam.
As for food, unless you're playing in hardcore mode, food or drink for that matter isn't needed at all. Just keep yourself well stocked with stimpaks and other buffs and that will be all that you need. Learn though on how to make your own ammo, it's not as vital in non-hardcore mode but it does make things a lot easier being able to craft your own ammo no matter what setting you're playing the game on. Also, tan the hides of any animals or beasts you kill. Gecko hides fetch some nice caps and helpful early on in the game to build up some money.
I'm on my 3rd playthrough, using Cassie and Rex as my companions this time and going the "Wildcard" route and take over New Vegas for myself. I've already got some good ideas for my 4th playthrough. Going to go the Caeser Legion route and try and kill every non-Legion NPC that I run into.

If the powder gangers hate you AND the NCR, start over, you're boned.
Powder Gangs is the easiest tribe/mob to kill in the game, they're starter cannon fodder for you to level up on. The NCR Correction Facility was my first stop after Goodsprings and I wiped them out easily. Just use VAT to target the guys with dynamite and shoot it in their hands, killing them and killing/injuring anyone close. Also, wear Powder Ganger armor and it will let you get in close before you kill them.
NCR, while tougher than the Powder Gangers (depending which NCR you run into...basic soldiers are easy and will tend to flee when their health hits 24%...The red beret guys and Rangers are the toughest of the NCR). If you do the HELIOS One quest, do the quest branch where you restore the weapon and use it on the NCR for some great fun early on but be warned, you'll get infamy status that you can't recover from. There is also a kid in one of the New Vegas slums that has a toy gun, get it from him and that's the targeting gun for the satellite weapon you restored during the Helion One quest. Great fun to randomly use it on large concentrations of NCR troops.

Just use VAT to target the guys with dynamite and shoot it in their hands, killing them and killing/injuring anyone close. Also, wear Powder Ganger armor and it will let you get in close before you kill them.

I was mostly referring to the fact that if bad guys AND good guys hate him simultaneously at a low level, he's in trouble.

Where do I find Veronica? I've already done everything I could for the BoS, they're beast and I just wanted to help them out since they kicked arse in the last game. But yeah, where is she?
I'm trying to decide which faction to go with. Should I go with Mr. House (Already beefed up ALL securitrons AND killed Caesar [Kaiser?]). Should I go with the NCR? (Got Boone and many NCR friends, plus all the perks to having the NCR with you).
Another note, who do I find in order to learn power armor? Nobody at Hidden Valley could teach me. Can Veronica?
Is it bad that every other few hours of gameplay, I find myself in either the Gomorrah, The Tops, or the Wrangler? I can't help but gamble (save, load, save, load, save, load ;) ). It's not like the money means anything, I can stop anytime I want to. :lol

1. veronica is at hill 188, shes the woman in robes and a hood.
2. thats personal preference. you can also take control of vegas yourself by killing mr.house (part of the wildcard missions)
3. couple of ways to learn how to wear it. you can get the follower arcade gannon(former enclave personel)to teach you, if you do veronicas missions you can join the BOS and they will teach you. OR you can use the NCR power armor, its weak but doesnt require power armor training to wear.
4. depends, do you have high or low luck? luck plays a big factor in how well you do gambling. if you have low luck you'll waist more money than you earn.

The last one wasn't really a question. :lol
So with Veronica, I can become a member of the BoS? Awesome.

There are certain glitches which may move it. It's THERE... somewhere in the canyon... you just need to find it.
-
What we need is Dogmeat again, so I can find all my guns and ammo. I searched for 10 minutes before finally finding the laser.

no there is a glitch where the gun can sink into the rock and you'd never be able to get it :(

rex gives you a perk that when you ADS, any container that has items in it will highlight itself in green, weapons in red.
-
Yes, well, if a laser pistol is sitting on the ground, how is that perk going to help? It isn't in anything.

you could see it still, i should of better worded that.
the perk highlights any item in green
weapons in red.
if they are in a container it will label that container w.e color the thing inside it.
the lazer pistol should be sittin on the rock the dead wastelander is leaning against.
hes a dead "wastelander" dont get him mixed up with the prospectors lieing around
-
Make sure the weapon isn't one of those you can only get if you have the wasteland perk, like with the alien laser pistol.

I was tempted to get the Wild Wasteland perk. I declined on it, though.

Shame. Its provided plenty of entertainment for me!

I'll get it next time.
My big dislike is the guy on Mojave Radio who sounds like a drunk. And I can hardly hear the radio, I have to put up with excessively loud gunshots to hear anything the guy says, or hear any of the music.

you mean mr new vegas?.
mini spoilers: he's acually not a "person" in the game, hes just a computer with a voice that mr house created to be the host of vegas'es talkshow.

i miss the old fatman, the ones you find ingame are seriously nerfed, barely do more damage than a missile launcher. and theres only 12 mini nukes in-game total.

A few words about FNV mods.
A World of Pain adds significantly more places to FNV, more bad guys to shoot, several new vaults, caves, and perhaps more important, a couple of new sources of weapons and armor for the person starting a new game.
Portable tent is just what it sounds like, gives you a portable tent, fully loaded (or you can choose stripped down version) Can be equipped as a backback, setup wherever you like. (prefer to set mine close to water, lake mead, goodsprings source, etc) Inside you have a well rested bed, lots of storage, your own workbench and reloading bench. Tunable radio, and a plant box that lets you harvest food regularly.
Nocol (No collisions) This little mod takes the invisible walls out between the different area's.
I hated being told I can't go someplace.
If your not good at locks, I highly recomend the Classic Sonic Screwdriver.
Wasteland Essential Gear is a set of clothing and backpacks that you can either buy at good springs or find on some enemy body's. Varying from the +8 pounds small side pack to the big duffle bag.
They are extremely handy.
Tired of not being able to maintain a truly "neutral" character, or of being told your bad because your taking things that belonged to someone you just killed? Try the "Karma Neutralized" mod.
Like Fallout3, FNV has a world of interesting mods for the PC Gamer.
Your best one stop shop for mods is of course Fallout Nexus.

That's Wayne Newton as the Mojave Radio DJ, and yeah, I agree most of the time he's hard to understand due to his slurring his slurs.

So Mr. New Vegas is like John Eden? Why can't I have a computer as cool as that...?
