Title: Battlefield 3
Post by: titanic3 on October 20, 2011, 08:53:39 PM
FIVE more days!!  :x

I just cannot wait to play this game.
PC version with 64 Players on one server!

I'm kinda bummed it's not available through Steam, but I guess trying out Origin should be interesting, as long as I get the same game, I'm happy.  :aok

It might be a matter of time until it is available via steam. steam has such a great influence and later I think they will make it available so more people get the game

When I was downloading the Beta for BF3. It took 4 hours, then when I clicked play. It said something was wrong with the game.  :cry

Anyways, I didn't download it again. I'm sure the full game is going to be absolutely amazing. I personally can't wait!  :aok

EDIT: Quick question, I pre-ordered the PC version of BF3 from gamestop, will that come on a disk?

I'm bummed I need Vista or Windows 7 to play.  If I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7, I'd like to go to the 64 bit version.  But as we know the 64-bit version doesn't work with Aces High (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,320845.0.html).

That's odd. I can run AH just fine on my crummy Toshiba laptop --> Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

IIRC, you can load two OS on one PC. I'm not sure how, but the geeks can help you with that.

IMO, you should upgrade, I have Windows 7-32bit and want an upgrade myself, but I have no problems so far, so why fix something that's not broken, right?

Windows XP is getting outdated by the second, and in 2-3 years, Vista and 7 are going to be the norm with Windows 8 at the top. And besides, lots of games uses DX11 to great effect these days, I'd say go for it.

So I will be able to use my CH gear with BF3? I only tried the beta once and it didn't work. I'd love to play this, but I'm sick of console ports.
Title: Re: Battlefield 3

BF3 was focused on PC, not consoles, unlike most games these days. I can use my joystick with it in BFBC2, so I bet it would work in BF3. If it can have a function mapped to it, it can be used.

I even heard guys that used their steering wheels from racing games to control the vehicles in BC2.

So if I can find one user that had a problem with AH2 and XP you think AH2 won't work with XP either? No dude, I have played AH2 on Windows7 x64 for years without a single problem.

That was just one thread and one user of many.  The disturbing part, if you read the one thread I linked, is where the HTC team admits there are problems with Win-7 64bit that are fundamental to the OS, that they cannot work around.  If you're afflicted by them, its pretty much "sorry about your luck, its Microsoft's fault, nothing we can do."

From the responses in this thread however, it seems many of you aren't affected by it.  So maybe I'll take the risk.

Its the usb headsets that get the game to disco with a 64bit setup of win7 from what I understand. I switched to a non-usb headset and rarely disco now. The usb headsets have a sound card of their own and win7 cant keep up with 2 sound cards so it gets a brain freeze and off to the desktop you go.

Then cancel the order?  :headscratch:

Unless you're looking to upgrade of course. Although if you want to run the game smoothly at ultra, you're going to need a lot of juice. Of course, this is based of beta, so they might have optimized the game to run better.
What card do you have? I have a pretty low-tange card, a Radeon 5570 that ran BF3 smoothly on medium/mixed high settings.
If you have a really weak PSU, 300W and under, this is the card to go. It's fantastic on my 220W Dell. Runs great for the games I play.

Something weird is going on, when I go to campaign mode the intro screens stutter through and the sound loops back, and my motherboard horn goes off after a while in the main menu, like my cpu is overheating, but my cpu is above spec, it's a Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93 & 2.13GHz. According to EVGA Precision my graphics card is hardly even being used, and I just updated my graphics and sound drivers. I do have a sound card.

At the gamestop where i was at, there was 3 teens standing outside decked out in MW3 gear trying to tell everyone how much better mw3 will be than bf3. they tried to recruit me. A short pointout of how much of a complete wreck the COD franchise has become caused them to retreat from the store.  ;)

Yea, that happened to me too, I messed around with the audio settings and turning off the second option (sound ambient? Something like that), fixed it for me. I'm running a Core 2 Duo at 2.9GHz and a Radeon 5570 with 4GB of RAM on Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit. Runs smoothly at the preset High settings and 1360x768 Resolution. Only chokes during lots of smoke.

Expect lots of patches/updated drivers to be released in the next couple of weeks.
I also get TONS of lag on 64 player maps, but not on 32. Which I don't mind. I bet they'll fix it sooner or later. And it's not just me either, a couple of other guys were complaining about it too.

But all in all, one word describes BF3..... SEXY

Probably because their servers are flooded with traffic. I downloaded my digital pre order 3 days before release, took about 1 hour at 1.1MB/s.
I'm having loads of fun. People say the campaign was generic and dull, I think it's amazing, no where near CoD4 campaign, but enough to make me go wow. The graphics are amazing!

I don't wanna sound like a Battlefield fanboy, but I've been seeing too many folks complaining about things that's not really DICE/EA fault.

I honestly have no idea, but I agree that PC is generally better than consoles, my PC just cant run many of the new games.  And plus I keep up with friends from high school on XBOX live.

Probably because their servers are flooded with traffic.
You would have thought that with EA forcing origin on everyone they would have foreseen that this would be a problem but surprise surprise they didn't.

SEXY

Turned Enhanced Stereo Mode off, helped a bit I think, but the game is still running like crap on minimum settings. I'm sure it has to do with the game's sound.

Do i have to reach a certain level before I can play hardcore?

I apologize for continuing to slightly hijack the thread, but could anyone tell me if installing BF3 in the 64 bit Program Files instead of the 86 folder on Win7 64 bit would cause problems? I thought BF3 was going to have a 64 bit version?

Nope, if you're on PC, there's checkbox in the server browser you can turn on or off for HC mode only. I don't know about consoles though.

It should install into whatever folder your Origin is located. No need to change any settings during install, just press install, next, accept, and you're good to go.

Well that wasn't it anyway, just spent two hours getting the stupid thing to reinstall, still runs like crap. EA better fix this or I'm going to be mad, there's nothing wrong with my system.

Did you try changing the audio settings? Going from War Tapes to Hi-Fi reduced quite a lot of stuttering for me. And the difference isn't that great, some even prefer the non-echoing sounds on Hi-Fi. I don't mind at all.

I also heard people having luck when changing the sound quality from their playback devices settings. And make sure you have the latest drivers.

From the whispers I'm hearing from the net you can't AceHavok.  You are looking at the bright future of EA games.  They said it would be comparable to Steam from the complaints I have seen about the crap DL speeds I would say it isn't.

NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GTX+, never failed me with Crysis, and the graphics in BF3 don't even look like a challenge (minimum settings). The game craps out when there's a lot of sound mostly, turning my view makes it worse. At one point there was so much sound going on that apparently the sound system crashed for a moment and everything went silent, and the game seemed to start running better, I think.

I've tried Hi-Fi, Headphones and Home Cinema audio settings, they all do the same thing.

I just updated everything after the game released.

I'll keep trying stuff, maybe I'm using too much RAM already, maybe BF3 hates me, maybe I need my money back. Who knows, I just don't need so much hassle at the moment.

Edit: Now I think it's a CPU problem. When I stand still everything is fine, GPU is used at about 80%, sounds don't stutter when I empty a clip. But when I turn round everything screws up, my GPU drops to 16% utilization and the temperature drops like a rock. Maybe it's the GPU screwing up when I turn and the CPU has to take over. I'm just rambling now, I don't know enough about this garbage to figure it out.

More RAM, more cores.   That's if all your drivers and hardware really are not the culprits.  The game exploits up to 16 cores.

My game said it has activation issues, so I called tech support. Then a few minutes later I got a notice on Origin that they're working on the issue I'm having.  :cry

From Battlefield's facebook page:
We take cheating and exploiting very seriously in Battlefield 3 and want to make it clear that it will not be tolerated. This week, we’ve banned hundreds of offending accounts and have stats-wiped additional accounts for exploiting (such as boosting). We’ll continue to be monitoring and taking action against the minority that doesn’t respect the integrity of the game.
Its great to know that DICE is monitoring their games and making sure it stays clean. More than IW/Treyarch can say about COD.

I have seen a lot mostly people with aim-bots or once someone hacked the server and had everyone teleport to a single spot where he through c4 and blew you up as you arrived there lol.  Supposedly they fixed that so it can't happen anymore, was actually quite funny.

I'm finally starting to get past the learning curve.  :aok

Turns out, you have to stick with your squad almost all the time, or at least with some teammates. You can't go lone wolf like in BC2, aiming is easier now due to practice, and I can finally keep a +1KD ratio, if not, I'm in the top 5 scorers.

Took me a while, but I got it.  :t
