I recently found out about this myself...

Hello Aces High community. I was just wondering if there are any Bronies out there who play the game other than me.

I tried watching it.  Maybe if I was 20 years old, I might find it amusing.

a T.V show has all this hype going... or is it oa facebook type game... either way, it looks as if it sadly dumbing down what little bit of society follows it.

as for this:
I never met Saddam Hussein or Hitler, and I know they were evil.
I must agree.

I have a feeling its some young teenagers in 8th grade that get handed candy when they answer A2 + B2 = C2

Ya know, truth be told the show isent that bad. Its just the fact that it has ponies in it, and when everyone thinks "my little pony" they think of the fruity girly ponies from the 80s.

The show's got a few adult orientated episodes. Poniefied versions of "The Dude" and his crew have shown up in the show. with nods also to pulp fiction, and the big lebrowski.

Plus the show does a nice job of tackling everyday life. they even handled the touchy subject of racial discrimination rather nicely.

Set your fear of loosing your maturity image aside, And give the show a try. much better than the regular slop on tv. I'd rather watch MLP then jersey shore, the kardashians, or skins.

Fortunately, it's not the entire generation. though it is full of those feeling they deserve entitement and a lot of the "Hey, look at me and accept me!" people.

There's nothing wrong with yearning to be accepted into society as long as you're not doing something really twisted (i.e., killing, raping, pillaging).  "Look at me" is more of a judgement call- preaching about abstinence in front of a strip club will probably get you boos and catcalls, while doing the same thing in front of a school might get you applause (depending on the community).  Entitlement is all the more so; it's right to feel entitled to safe streets, but whining that you got cut off in a big traffic jam is a bit much.

You're looking at the simpler side of it, but it's an experience thing.  You're entitled to safe streets - that should be a nice part of any civilized society.  However, you're not entitled to make $60,000 a year just because you went to college and came out with a non-specialized degree.  There's a big difference in what younger folks feel they 'deserve' just for existing.

Wanting to be accepted and liked is normal.  Nobody wants to be hated, unless they hate themselves.  Pushing people to accept you is much more prevalent with this generation.

Partly because there has been a tiny bit of bigotry lately *cough*civil-rights movement*cough*holocaust*cough*still-tons-of-gay-jokes-in-public*cough*.  Like the aforementioned abstinence preacher, though, there is a point at which it just gets annoying.  There is a difference between feeling entitled to high pay and feeling dissappointed by a bad decision, but both produce similarly negative emotions.  I think part of the problem you're experiencing is the 'you can be anything' movement not being supported by comprehensive educational reform and an emphasis on showing consequences of even good choices (i.e., social workers don't make a ton of money even though they have help people a ton with their issues).

There has always been biogtry, and there always will be.  However, social acceptance of being gay, or being Jewish, or being anything that isn't a 'WASP' is much higher than it was than when the majority of us were younger.

The difference comes in how the generations were raised, and the parents did a big disservice by raising a generation of kids to be dependant upon them.  Kids wanting to move back home after college seems to be the norm now.  Non-city kids not knowing how to drive, or even having licenses, because their parents chauffer them until they leave is common.  Kids lacking the knowdlege on being self sufficient is what a generation of parents has produced, and that directly translates into feeling 'entitled' to everything, because they were given everything or had everything done for them.

This may not be you, but this is a definitive mark on this generation.

There is a difference in feeling entitled to high pay (feeling entitled to anything, actually) and feeling like you made a bad decision.  One is blaming other people for not giving it to you, and the other is blaming yourself for making a mistake.  It's not the same.

As for making choices, the information is out there.  More information is available now than ever before.  It's up to the person to research though, and not expect to have the research done for them.

I see this every single day.  I see the blame, the failure to take ownership, and the expectation that they're entitled 'x,y, and z' because they were told so.

Hmm, I agree with you that it is a problem, but the message 'you can be anything'  doesn't come at a time when you are particularly inclined to do research.  When they told me that, I was 5 years old and wanted to be a Marine.  Now, I abhor war and want to be a physicist.  The point is that there isn't a big enough push to improve education, while we still give them inflated expectations that their current level of effort cannot fulfill.  Now in the case of dependence, the economy is in a bind, so moving back home temporarily may be a smart move in order to save money in order to buy a nicer house later.  However, I can't see what you see, so perhaps you have a point.  Blaming others for choosing a degree in sociology and not making big bucks though, I agree, that's being annoying.

Education is a major problem in this country, and I have my thoughts on how to improve it and what I'd change, but I don't want to bring any political talk into this.  I'll say that there is a big divide in what kids are told and what they're told on how to achieve it.  It seems like the idea of 'working harder to get ahead' is gone.  It's not like it's changed into 'working smarter to get ahead' either.

Almost every parent loves their kid(s) and thinks they're the best thing in the world.  These same parents are the ones who molded their children into what I described.  We have friends where the Mom jokes about "Going to college with her sons when they go" because she doesn't want them to leave.  Does she also do everything for them?  Pretty much.  Is this allowing her kids to 'grow'?  Not so much.

The idea about moving back home started before the economy really started to tank.  We saw it transpiring more often around 10-12 years ago, not just in the recent years.  It's one thing to move home because of necessity.  I had to do that when I was younger, and it was demoralizing.  But during that time, over a few years, I paid off debts and saved $40k to put 20% down on my first house.  My goal was to become an adult, not live with Mom and Dad.  The difference is that kids don't want to leave the nest, and their parents seem happy to have them there.

So, it is a smart move, but the motivation behind going home leaves much to question.

If any adults truly want to give the series a try. I recommend season 2. Season 2 had a few adult-oriented situations and references thrown in Because the lead devs realized MLP had a much broader age following.

Seen the Mike Myers Cat in the Hat yesterday morning also for the first time. For a kids themed movie, there sure was an awful lot of adult references the kids wouldnt understand (and it was freakin funny)

You guys are such suckers. Don't you realise that it is just another supposed sit-com animation like so many before it. The only difference is that they have made it garish childish and feminine in appearance because that was an avenue nobody had tried for the adult market so far. But of course, like the saps that you are, you think 'hey, if I watch something that looks garish, childish and feminine then I must be original and cool!' Not only this but you believe it somehow proves your masculinity to not perceive it as childish or feminine.

It is a sad day when, to attempt to be original, kids will sink to this level of self depreciation. At least most of the other generations had some attitude. Maybe next you will all start wearing school girl uniforms? I mean dude, that would be pretty original and out there for teenage males. People will be sure to notice how cool you are and how comfortable you are with your masculinity. You know somewhere there is a room full of producers mocking your predictable gullibility while they churn out this tripe with exactly the same stories and gags as every other animated series and get rich while you make fools of yourselves.

I for one will happily let you walk right into this media trap like the lemmings that you are without batting an eyelid, but please would you stop flooding this genuinely original forum with it.

If that was the case, you wouldn't be going out of your way to post pony pictures in as many threads as possible.  No, for you at least, this has become a major "look at me look at me" thing.  Which pretty much dovetails right into what Batfink said.

I think Batty is right on the mark.

MLP became a internet meme.  I like the memes, I like how upset they make the so-called "adults" when they see the memes. I like how You all overreact to a couple of ponies. And its because of this, That i post them.

You all are acting like MLP is the bane of manli-hood and should be eradicated from this earth because it threatens your very image of masculinity.

Which is why its so much fun acting like im a pony-worshiper. I could care less about personal opinion on me for liking it, Your reactions give me a laugh. and its because of that fact, that i shall continue.

Haters gonna' hate.  :)

Horses=Much respect through manual labor, racing, and other uses Humans have found for them.

You really have no idea what you are talking about.  I was raised on a farm.  Pigs are the one of the cleanest animals on a farm.  The reason they love the mud has to do with keeping thier skin from drying out.  Pigs do a pretty good job of taking care of themselves.  Horses, not so much.

If you want a filthy animal to pick on, then pick on the chicken.  They are just nasty.

Nooo skuzzy. Mentioning that pigs do nothing but roll in the mud all day was more pointing out their common image compared to horses, Than the hygiene of both animals.

I grew up on a farm aswell in southern ohio. We personally did not have pigs, but our neighbors did. They smelled pretty bad. Windy days the smell would blow all the way to our farm.I remember my grandfather storming over to our neighbors house a couple of times to complain about it. I guess it just depends on the pigs tho.  Our horses mostly kept themselves cleaned. Loved the pond my grandfather had. Granted, they did step in manure all the time, But overall they never smelled as bad as the pigs.

Anyways, It was more a discussion of public image. I was wondering if the pigs got so much flak for basing themselves off the image of pigs that pretty much roll in the mud, until they are fat enough for food.

A farmer complaining about how another farm smelled?

I'm sorry I missed the pig farmer's reaction to that one...

Did he just burst out laughing outright or did he tell him to go piss up a rope, as well?       :rofl
Title: Re: wtf little ponies?
Post by: Skuzzy on January 04, 2012, 09:46:16 AM
Pigs are like cats and really have no odor to speak of.  The smell is usually from the pit/stye, which can get pretty rank if it is not cleaned regularly.  Then again, the smell could be from a hen house as well.

Hey, a horse stable does not smell so sweet either.

If you were raised on a farm with chickens, pigs, horses, goats, and cattle then you learn to live with the stench of manure as it will, eventually, permeate everything.  You also learn the pig pit was not the worst place to work.

By the way, if you were on a farm, how did you notice another farms odor?  All wind did was move the source of the smell from one area of a farm to another area of the same farm.  The nearest farm to us was about a 20 minute drive, as we also had cattle.  Also, how do you know it was from the pig pit?

Your ignorant.

Our farm wasent very big. Just a few acres for the horses (And cows when we had them). Our farm never rly had a BAD smell to it. My grandfather was very strict on keeping the barn clean.every second Monday was cleaning out the manure around the barn with the tractor and ether spreading it in the garden or way back in the field. Tuesday was cleaning out the actual stalls and the haytrofts. Wednesday was cleaning out the chickenhouse and giving them fresh hay for their nests along with washing out their feedtrofts.

I knew the smell was from the pigs because our neighbor had his pigpen almost right up against our fence. And the times my granfather sent me to inspect the fence, I'd smell the odor whenever i was close to the pigpen. Never really smelled it anywheres else. Not on our farm atleast. im not saying our farm didn't smell a bit, But not as bad as those pigs did.  The only animals our neighbors kept were pigs, A painted horse for their daughter, and cattle. But his cattle were WAYY back in the woods across the street. The neighbors house from ours was maybe a 3 min walk across the field.
but idk, Maybe it was the pigpen itself and not the pigs, Our neighbor pretty much threw any slop in there for them to eat. Never did see him clean it. But i do know they smelled worse than anything on our farm.   :uhoh
