Title: TOC winner
Post by: Midway on September 12, 2013, 12:08:10 PM
I wish that if someone is good nuff to win TOC, and earn their plaque... they should get:

---------->  a FREE subscription to Aces High for life <----------

If you're that good and willing to put in the skills, talent, and effort to win said best of the best championship, you bring much more to the game than the $15/month subscription, imho. :aok

Flyboy (2004),  :rock
Murdr (2005),  :rock

This is a great idea, but needs one tiny alteration;

The cost of a free subscription will be covered by Midway

There would be no "cost", only a slightly reduced revenue for HTC, offset by likely more players joining, staying, and paying to be in the presence of said awesome pilots. :aok

So, I suspect, this may actually have a slight positive revenue impact. :)

The net revenue piece of this, I believe, would be immaterial to HTC.  The value of having these TOC winners flying with us... priceless.

You, Sir, are wrong.  Aces High aeroplane flying is as close to the real thing as I can get... and I hump no legs, never have, never will.

But I do respect, admire, honour, and enjoy learning from awesome good pilots.  :aok

The same could be said for anyone that plays sports or has hobbies.  This sport of ours is great fun, rewarding, and very very challenging.  I'm sure great athletes like Michael Jordan, Kurt Thomas, Bart Conner, Michael Phelps, and Tom Brady have spent time with and honour our RL veterans.  That does not take away from the value of their or our sport.  :aok

I happen to have lived next door to a RL P51 pilot (downed a RL ME 262 in WWII), and have great appreciation for the real thing... which is why Aces High is that much more meaningful and enjoyable to so many that did not serve and get to fly or support these great aeroplanes... and thereby defend our freedom (along with every other military person).  :salute :rock

I get plenty of time away from the PC, btw... I run/walk a good four miles roughly every other day.  You? :)

No need to focus on me... this thread is about... well... I've already said it.  Nuff said. :salute

http://www.chess.com/article/view/is-chess-a-sport

Isn't sport mostly about skill, challenge, competition, and the desire to be the best?

Is there any less competition or difficulty, to be the best in Aces High?

Can there not be mental sports as well as physical sports?

The thrill of victory  , the agony of defeat?  :O :cry

Is Aces High any less of a sport than Chess?  :headscratch:

Bettering one's opponent thru effort? :joystick: :x

The wins vs the losses?

 :O A cartoon, you say?

Are the pilots flying RL drones doing any more than watching a cartoon?

Are they controlling the action with their joystick and monitor(s)?

A cartoon is a series of drawings you only watch in sequence.

The end is known at the beginning by the artists and writers

Are we not using our mental skills to defeat our opponent?

Does watching cartoons involve controlling the action?

A cartoon, you say? :O

just so we have the other side of this story debrody got discoed as a wabbit,  Because the wabbit can end the event they are to be ganged at all costs by EVERYONE still in it and it is tradition to show them no mercy.

Because everyone was already spread I felt this would give herr Debrody an un-fair advantage because he could then take off and have a free pass at anyone elses fights.  As a wabbit he was lucky to get a 1vs1 with no-one else involved.

I gave him enough room to get clear of the field and enough energy to successfully evade one pass.   He did this superbly but I then killed him straight after in his 190 D, a plane I am not comfortable with.   Because Debrody saw this as lame he then logged from the rest of the event which to me shows weakness in character.

I will repeat that it was not my fault you got discoed and also not my fault Fuzeman agreed to re-open the runway several minutes into the round to put you at said dis-advantage / advantage.  If it was down to me I would have not let you take off and wait until the next round so you don't go on hating the player for eternity!     :)

I remember watching a Kappa vs Murdr P38 fight in the 2007 tournament it went on for what seemed like eternity, with neither of them batting an eyelid.  I thought fuel had to run out before either of them got a shot on one another and maybe it did!

So at the end, even i had the unfair advantage? At 1k, 200mph? Enough space, i had all the chance, huh? Honestly, homeboy, this is the biggest piece of work you could ever say.

True, i could win that event earlyer, when it was 1v1 with Krupinski. Made one really bad decision there (not a bad move...), i lost, but i fluffingly cant care. I could have BnZed him, had alt before the merge, yet i got down to the deck with him. This wasnt that said mistake. You think, i could really ran outta fuel? If this rings a bell of did i want to win or not. Just wanted some good fights, couldnt get it from you. Thank you.

My problem with you, Bruv, is: you think, the results are the only important thing. You sacrafice everything for them, really everything. Got your plaque, also, repeating your "alternative stories" as long so at the end, even you start beliving in them. Be happy and listen to The Beatles.

And im a weak character?

Rules are rules and officials are the final arbiters.  Strength of character is required to follow the rules and ensure fair gameplay and sportsmanship, as in any sporting tournament.  Since a final decision was made and you had opportunity to file a protest, the rightful winner was chosen. TOC and KOTH being very competitive have to rely on rules and someone as wise as fuzeman to make sure everything is fair.

Having beaten you many times myself in fair co-E 1 v 1's and having NEVER beaten Bruv in a fair 1 v 1, EVER, after many many tries, I am certain the better pilot won that TOC, speaking as objectively as I can.  We all know how awesome good the only triple TOC winner is at fighting 1 v 1s and you also know whom the better pilot is. He won.

Being a sore loser is a moment(s) of weakness, and I forgive you yours. I have had moment(s) myself as many know.

Strength of character is required to overcome said moment(s).  :old:

Debrody has said strength, but it will take time, imho.

I seriously doubt this.  He has some interesting theories but in no way can he beat the world chess champion or AH TOC champion.  There is much more to mental sporting skills than brains, it's having the talent and emotional capacity to apply them, especially under pressure.  :joystick:

Stephen Hawking is smart, but that does not mean he can or will win sports of the mind.  As a matter of fact, I suspect he would lose rather badly since he probably would have difficulty focusing on competition instead of academic theory. If someone knows him, tell him to come see for himself.  :aok

Chess, Golf, and Darts are indeed all sports with their respective world champions. If you think becoming one is easy and you can win a world championship whilst holding a beer in any of these, play them and you soon will be humbled.

Humbled indeed.  :old:

Heck, even I can likely pwn you, at will.  :)

One: there is no true "World Champ" for golf, unless you are considering the winner of the British Open a "World Champ", which to me is Old World snobbery at its finest.

Two: Daly was (and I believe still is) a drunk and a chain-smoker...but he still has more talent in golf then you will ever have in AH.  He also is somewhat less vocal than you.....

Three: at the peril of of becoming a leg-humper like yourself, I'd be interested to see if you really could beat Triton 1v1.....I'm kinda doubting it.

Four:  I know of several AH players who HAVE beaten you while holding a beer....and maybe having drank more than a few prior to pulling the trigger and blowing your fool wing off.  :lol

You, Sir, are the one indeed wrong. If I am wrong, you go win the world champ title in any of these sports.  :)

As I said, you will be humbled if you make the attempt.  :joystick:

I took your use of "you" to address your audience.  If you meant a specific "you", you were not talking to me, you were talking to Danny.  Get it right.  Keep it right.  :aok

For straight record purposes, golf has no single world champion.  It has 4 major championships a year and a world ranking system.  Holding the #1 spot in the Rolex World Rankings does not constitute a world championship.  You sir, are a liar and a fraudulent, johnny come lately golf fan.  Speak no more of this sport which you do not know.   :old:

Of course I'm not going to win a world championship in the sports you mentioned.  I'm not a professional or a competing amateur.  I have a family to support and I can do so with good and proper work.   :old:  One thing I could do, even hammered out of my mind, is beat you like a drum on the golf course.   :ahand

John Daly winning The Open Championship and the Professional Golfers Association championship, while drunk, proves that you are wrong.  Wrong indeed.   :ahand :rofl :aok

First, you means you the reader. Since you read said reference, you refers specifically to you.

Second, being ranked #1 with substantial frequency makes you the defacto best in the sport, ergo world champion equivalent.

Third, I have no talent at golf and have not claimed same. Have played maybe three times.

Fourth, the world champions of many sports are also married and have kids. They just also happen to have awesome talent and skill as well.

Fifth, John Daly has talent, I agree, and did not say otherwise if you study my words with the care they deserve.

Sixth, Fulcrum is confused since I was talking to Danny about my said pwning ability, although I could take you or Fulcrum on most likely as well. But that is not the topic of this thread.

Finally, this thread is not about me.

It is about honouring, incenting, rewarding, and recognizing the best of the best in Aces High.  :old:

Please, Sir... educate yourself with truth: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golf :)

Truth pwns fiction, with substantial frequency.  :old:

This article is referring to a different definition of sport, i.e "I say Tarquin, chasing those fine fillies at the Mucky Duck last evening was splendid sport what, what?"

is different to watching Ali v Foreman

Just because a guy has a talent for golf or darts or snooker does not a sportsman make, it's like saying Dan Brown is a good writer (he's bloody not) therefore he is a sportsman. Or my Aunt Mabel (don't really have one) is great at knitting, therefore she's a sportswoman.

No.  This thread isn't about TOC winner free passes.  It's a shameful hump of ankles.  Pick yourself up, son!  Have some self respect!   :old:

Killing me is no great feat...tho' I find it odd you've only managed to do so twice in all your chest thumping years while I have managed to kill you just a bit more often.  I should add that one of those times was a proxy as I flew into a tree whilst on your six as I was finishing my 5th beer!  (true story)

And yes, I keep track of this in your case only Middy because you are just sooooo very special...

Speaking of which...I've been wondering why you didn't jump all over joining the DFC Pick Yer Ride event?  Some pretty good sticks entered (myself being an obvious exception)...and you could fly your mighty Spit VIII without fear of any riddicule whatsoever!  I would have thought you, being that you can "pwn 95% of players" in this game would have been literally jumping at the chance.

Come on Middy!  Redbull has a bye in the first round...I'm sure Ink could fit you in...what do ya say!?  :D  :aok

I'm supportive of applying pwnage whilst drunk.   That is the new topic for discussion, silly.

To expand this a bit further, drunken pwnage is a skill unto itself and not able to be harnessed by everyone.  Nay, it can only be harnessed by the very best, which is why you were so wrong in your earlier assertion.

Maybe one day, you too can apply drunken pwange and rise to the top.  I'm rooting for you!   :old:

Let it be known.  :old:

What a disgusting trolling shit. Totally ignoring my point yet repeating the false crap again and again - madness reigns in your head and youre worthless by any manner.

Once again, not for midtard, but for everyone else:
I dont care if i lose because im not any good. But when i give you a good fight, i might have the rights to expect something simmilar back. I didnt get it from Bruv, ergo i do not want to play with him anymore.
THATS ALL.

Losing a championship tournament can be tough. I've seen many players on the losing end even in tears, ex a college football championship losing team.  But, in time, you'll see it's just a game and not nearly as important as family, friends, and the next contest/challenge.   :joystick:

I see what you're saying.  It's just that you are wrong from what I can tell.  Either because TOC officiating agrees you're wrong and by participating you agreed to those rules, or you not properly contesting it and leaving in a huff.

The best man/pilot won that year.  :aok

The best man/pilot won that year.  :aok

Let me tell you about a man who was the best.  On a magical Sunday in 1991, John Daly became a major champion despite being an alternate for the tournament.  In fact, he drove all night from his home in Memphis not even knowing if he would get it, but boy did he!   :old:

He was a long shot to win, both literally and figuratively, but he used the power of alcohol to win the PGA Championship by three strokes.

Quote
“I was doing the Arsenio Hall, the towel thing. Winning the [1995] British Open was sweet but not as rowdy and cool as that. It was cool going through the crowd high-fiving everybody. My right hand was so sore after that week. My fingers were so sore. Man, I don’t do that anymore. I’m scared I’m going to get injured.”

That day, Crooked Stick Golf Club and the whole of the golfing world got a taste of pure alcohol fueled pwnage.

What he is, is an adolescent. He acts and writes likes he's some sophomore envisioning himself to be one of those at the party after the football game. Clearly he's overheard stories and been told to clean it up the next day. Little brother of the QB maybe?

Aside from all the blah, blah, blah, the biggest problem I see with this thread is the idea that being a good dogfighter equates to being a positive part of the game and deserving of something special from HTC.  Bruv might be a great asset to the game, I don't know him, must be a time zone thing.  Only ran into him once that I remember and my usual tactics against a Spit VIII resulted in me in the tower wondering what happened.  No doubt about his and other TOC winners ability, but when I think of the folks in game that make it a positive experience, many of them are average and some below.  When I think of the folks that are often not a positive part of the game, there are certainly some very skilled killers on that list.

This is way closer to a local softball league than Pro anything.  The 10 guys that can put it over the fence are less benefit than the 500 folks that stink but pay all the bills and have a good time.  Not that those 10 guys shouldn't be recognized for their skill and CAN be a great source for teaching the game, its just that the most beneficial and deserving player may very well be the guy with poor skills but he is there helping people, keeping it fun, running the grill at the season end BBQ and staying after to clean up.

Admittingly, very well said.  :salute

Although there is a true skilled based aspect here that tends to be somewhat absent at the local softball get-together w/ BBQ.
