What is it you don't like about it? I find 10 to be faster and more reliable than 7.

I've been using it for about a 1 1/2 years now. It was a little fussy at first, but I love it now. Would never go back to 7.

I only have Home, but once I got things tweaked the way I like them to be, all was good in my little world.

W10 once you get use to w10 , it is faster and easy to use. W10 is w7 pretty much with an updated user interface.

I have to really thank you all for your replies to my questions about w10. I JUST DONT LIKE IT. My GOOD friend Mars01 really likes W10. I just don't feel that w10 is user friendly for me or the jobs I use my machines for. Which again to day is becoming to play this game and will eventually be to make my films of my AH good and bad times. They are very enjoyable to create!
Thanks again guys <S> Morph

Unless there has been a huge change for the better at HP, I don't think you can blame it entirely on Win10. Just saying.

All I use Windows 10 for is gaming, but I haven't tried any really old games yet. If necessary, Win. 10 still has the compatibility settings, just like Win. 7. The oldest games I've played so far are, Mafia I and Mass Effect I. No issues with either.
Win. 10 does offer Direct X12, which Win. 7 does not. Some games are starting to utilize DX12. Here's a short list from the Wiki. DX12 Game List (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support)

Learn to right-click and win10 has a much better GUI than win7. Just right-click on the start button and I bet half of your gripes goes away, if not more. Win8/10 was a necessary change to bring windows out of the 90s and into this millennia. After the initial period of finding out how stuff works in win10 it is a much better experience, and the first windows edition I feel I don't need to modify heavily with 3rd party launchers or gadgets. I just run rainmeter for the essential stats and I'm good.

New installs of both, Windows 10 starts and shuts down faster than Windows 7. I would debate some application performance too.

On that part I must agree. Actually, sometimes I find myself right clicking the start button on a customer's 7 just because it's so handy in 8/10. Note that I'm using 7 at home so I should know how it works...
What bugs me the most is there's settings you can do in the Control Panel, there's settings you can do in the Start Menu, there's settings you can do both ways, or the Start Menu applet sends you to Control Panel. Some settings should be able to be done in one of the two, but the only viable way is to use the admin Command Prompt! Why on Earth did they have to partially reinvent the wheel?

I used that with Windows 8. It really isn't needed with 10.
The real pain with the windows 8 like interface is on the Windows Server 2012. Windows Server 2016 is much better.

Windows 10 is better than Windows 7 in most ways, particularly for gaming. You're becoming a crotchety old man who doesn't like change simply because it is change.

The biggest issue in downgrading might be getting all the motherboard drivers right. Check the manufacturer's support site if your model has been shipped with 7, that would make the process much easier.

I still use W7 and haven't tried W10 yet but if you have W10 already and just got it then I'd advise you take some time to adjust to it. You can always switch to W7 later if you still don't like W10 after you get used to it.

I used Windows 7 Pro for a long long time. I finally went to 10 Pro and after testing on one computer I upgraded all 5 of my home machines to 10 Pro.
I then upgraded all the machines at the shop to 10 Pro.
I do not care for Windows 10 Home.... 10 Pro is the best.

In the stone age you'd be a village elder by now. I'd be long dead... ;)
If your laptop was made for win10 there may not be drivers available for win7. Most laptops need hardware specific drivers from the manufacturer, and they usually don't make drivers for older operating systems than what was shipped with the computer.

Switch from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Then you will love the upgrade from 8 to 10. Or maybe just use ME, Vista, or even MS-DOS 4 for a while, then upgrade.

Is a wonderful sight to see you posting Morpheus!
You will find both many who claim Windows 10 to be better/faster than Windows 7 (I'm only referring to 64bit OS's here) and many who will claim the opposite...
I personally did the free upgrades on 3 computers to Windows 10 Pro ( 2 were Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, 1 was Windows 8.1 Pro) but after less than a month's use, I converted back to their original OS's....
If a person keeps their Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 properly cleaned from bloated software and programs installed in a proper manner <----- referring to a clean and tweaked OS installation here...then about the only new thing that I see Windows 10 having over Windows 7 is the DX12
Windows10 downside is Microsoft wanting to have more control over your OS than you do... at the very best, if I was going to go back to Windows 10, I would only go with Windows10 Enterprise ( it's early here just waking up, think that is the version I would choose ) because it gives you about most control you going to get over updates , etc
Hope this helps, great seeing you on the boards, have a blessed day!

Morpheus, you can create a disc image of your current Windows 10 installation on that laptop and save it to an USB Stick or DVD, or an external hard drive and you then should be able to roll back to Windows 7 (if that is what was on the laptop to begin with and you used the free upgrade to Windows 10)
Or if not, still create an disc image of the current install, then just reformat and install Windows 7 (which ever version you desire) although I recommend Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Hope this helps

I have no idea what gave you that impression. We have a Windows 10 system, in house. We have to so we can support it, but I find it a pain in the tush to deal with simply because of the problems we have had with it.
Most things end users would never see. The resetting of the settings we need has cost us a number of hours of development time. Then the inconsistencies of some things just frustrate us.
Personally, I use Windows 7 Pro and that is the last Microsoft operating system I will ever have on my personal computers. I just see no advantage to going to Windows 10 at all. I'd have to spend a chunk of change to install third party software to do things which came with Windows 7 Pro. It makes no sense to me.
Morpehus, the biggest problems with laptops are finding all the drivers you would need to be able to run Windows 7. If you can find all the drivers (motherboard chipset, audio, video, network, ....) for Windows 7, then go for it.

I've seen a lot of problems with Windows 7 updating over the last year or so (we manage a couple of thousand of these). I suspect, but can't prove, that Microsoft is intentionally causing this to push people to 10.
The fact all those update issues started when Microsoft initiated the "Get Windows 10" marketing program cannot be a coincidence. Many people suspect they are intentionally handicapping Windows 7 to urge people to move to Windows 10.
Once they figured out many were not going to move, they started pushing out updates which provided the same telemetry data as Windows 10 does, but it hurts the performance of Windows 7 tremendously.
Once people figured out which update it was, which was causing it, they rolled all the updates into one package and made it so you could not remove the telemetry update.
Fun stuff.

There's a workaround on Win7 updates that works. I did it. It requires three KBs downloaded and installed in the proper order with Windows Update disabled. There's a thread I started complaining about Windows 7 with the link. It worked like a charm. No more five day waits for an update.

Did you do all of the steps?
Make sure you get all the KBs installed manually. Then do a manual (standalone) install *BEFORE* you re-enable Windows Update. I think I downloaded the rollup directly but you can do security-only.

I was under the impression that if one downloaded and installed the roll-up that Windows7 would include/install the data telemetry updates as well which will hinder the performance of Windows 7...
I'm on my phone right now, but I used that other thread where in the thread, the kb##### updates that should be removed, uninstalled, not downloaded were listed....and Skuzzy even linked to a program called GWX Control Panel, which has been working pretty well for me, anyway....
If someone doesn't link that other thread in/to this thread... I'll do it when I fire up my computer in the morning after I get up...
Hope this helps

24 isn't enough. I check for updated manually, allowing Microsoft some time to fix the updates before installing them. It took something between 36 to 48 hours for my system to get the latest 7 updates for my Win7.

Your laptop likely has a hidden restore drive to restore it to factory condition so even if you mess it up it will be easy enough to bring back but you would lose data if it's not backed up.
Like everyone else has said, the key will be if the manufacturer has drivers available for Win 7.
That said I've been using Win10 for over a year now and like it. There's nothing I can't do that I could in Win 7 or XP. If it was me I'd spend some time getting used to it. Win 7 support isn't going to last forever so, unless you plan to move to Linux, you're eventually going to have to make the transition anyway.
Title: Re: I Hate windows 10!!!!
Post by: Shuffler on December 30, 2016, 11:11:41 AM
If you buy one online, be sure it is a full version and not a upgrade version.
If you let it format your drive, which it will probably require since you are rolling back, you will not have the second partition that holds the recovery windows 10. This means you need to be sure that you have your drivers for win 7 because if they are not available you will have to buy a copy of win 10 to fix it.
Title: Re: I Hate windows 10!!!!
Post by: Bizman on December 30, 2016, 12:32:41 PM
It will require you to format (actually delete) the system partition, leaving the recovery partition intact. However, should you ever need it, take some precautions since your boot system might lose the recovery partition.
So, what you should do is to create the factory reset media your system offers. If you already have made it, you're golden. If not, in case you've not unchecked the nag screen, simply follow the instructions. You'd probably need a 32 GB USB stick. If you have unchecked the nag screen, or if there never has been one, you might still have the HP Support Center program running, the question mark inside a blue ball icon. You should find the recovery media creator there. If that's not an option any more, simply open the "start menu" and start typing "recovery" and you should find the recovery media creator program.
Sending you a PM, too.

Dumb question here. How is 10 on the older games that came out back in the day of windows 98. IE command and conquer stuff? Win 7 seems to run the older games pretty seamlessly.
Windows NT 4 type OS to the present windows 10 won't run the dos4gw 32 bit extender and direct hardware manipulation used by older games unless you spend a bit of time setting up an emulation so your sound and controls work.
Even with that worked out, it's buggy and laggy as compared to the last OS microsoft offered that worked well with the 4gw extender.......which is win98se.
I have the latest hardware that will run 98se for older games and it supports bus mastering of isa slots and use the nt/xp/7/10 box for the new stuff.
Be careful if you desire any isa slot action with the rare modern motherboard that has one as they don't support true bus mastering of the isa slots.
The only modern motherboards that allow old isa slot hardware are industrial and you still have to make sure it's real bus mastering that they have.
I run into this often when servicing car dynos that use isa based controller cards and upgrading is either impossible or cost prohibitive.
BTW........a KT7A raid based system with an ati aiw8500 and a sound blaster awe32 running win98se makes revisiting older games an awesome experience.
