Title: I called someone an idiot and was told by a mod to "calm down."
Post by: molybdenum on August 18, 2024, 06:14:52 PM
That's it. That's all I said. No previous context. He said something and I said he was an idiot. And when someone asked me why I said that, I gave said context, then got muted.
Is that really the power we want mods to have?
Out for the day (mute 10min but yeah).
~4PM PST HiTech if you want to see chat history. If you even care any more.

It's really interesting to see what gets allowed and what doesn't. It's almost as if there's only one moderator left, maybe two, and they're hardly ever on when I'm on. Regardless, these types of threads aren't a good idea (I see you have another thread about a mod as well). Just call Dale. :salute

My guess is that he was going on and on and on about any number of things..... need help here.... somebody run supplies there.... need bombers to A45...... need to hit strats..... and then all the complaints he normally has after everyone ignores him.
The "idiot" comment is the one that broke the camels back to get the "calm down", and by not shutting his mouth, the mute for 10 minutes. It doesnt matter what was said after the "calm down" the MOD took it as he didnt calm down and so got muted. Pretty simple and strait forward.

Have a pretty good feeling on who is the supplier of this info now, it’s someone pretending to argue on 200 so as not to draw suspicion, but becoming quite apparent.
Isn’t going to change how I play though, I’m not climbing to 20k just to find he’s now going to 23k every time. If I’m up that high, I likely got distracted climbing out. Heck maybe I’ll figure out how Brando survives so long in his N1k at 50’ agl. 😆

Isn't it funny how how he always comes in higher no matter how high you get? Always sketch to me whens hes outside of visual range. I know eagler is having the same thing too, I and others being targeted have mentioned the same thing.

Ladder climbing
I mentioned on 200 he always comes in at 15k. So, not to be caught co-alt of 15k, his victim called out he came in at 18k. So not to be caught co-alt at 18k he came in at 20k, of course that was mentioned on 200 so next time is 22k.
Tells me he has to have minimum 2k advantage of the common alt. He only comes in at co-alt after he drops 2k for speed.
I found if you both start with his co-alt, taking away his drop for E, he’ll HO ya. He doesn’t manage E any better than many, he comes in with a high E buffer, you’ll lose E before he does, then claim you know nothing about E. Which is only true if you don’t do the same.
High E with a good turning 109 that restores E fast, and 30mm nose guns, thats a good upper hand.
Don’t think he’d fair all that well in a 51D. Can’t fly like he does and maintain E in a 51 too. No matter what he flies he extends out of the furball for E often, thats when he’s most vulnerable if you have speed up. If he thinks its equal he’ll rope and HO ya. Many AC will stall before a 109 (me thinks).
Once you figure out his patterns he becomes predictable. You chess mate him on merges by 3rd - 4th round he resorts to HO. He doesn’t have patience.
The way he aims it takes mire time. Never stay in his guns more than 2-3 seconds. You’ll be hit by 3-4seconds. Stay out of that window, break, even just slightly. If he wants the shot he’ll have to guess the lead like the rest of us.
His biggest fear is you have the alt on him. When I mentioned I’m going to hunt him from 30k, he brought a posse in.
He’s paranoid someone flies like him, play on his fears, panic is an easier kill. When you fly what he does, how he does, the upper hand is deminished.

I kinda do that, more so recently, because he does. Except I’m usually hunting pickers. If one who wants to beat him ya have to fly like he does, or your milage will vary, with any picker, which he does often.

I hope you all get as tired of me posting this crap as I am of Skyyr and his BS in game. He wants to play this game and HTC doesn't want to care? Than ill come here and annoy everyone with it so he will never live down his petty tactics on the community.
Molly has a point, the word idiot shouldn't receive a hit. I knows he's complained about it for a long time too, but unfortunately all we can do is annoy the forums since no actions is taken by the leader of the game to resolve issues.

1. It takes 2 to HO 2. A front quarter shot isn’t a HO. 3. Anything past the merge is fair game.
So unless you have a gun solution on the other guy as well it isn’t a HO.

To some of us we play the game to fight in fighters. Out maneuver the other guy to get him into a position where he doesnt have a shot, but you do. It takes skill and a bit of thought.
It only takes one to HO..... to those that want to fight, you dont fire on a head on merge, you maneuver.
A front quarter shot isnt a HO.... To those that want to fight, a front quarter shot is a HO as even if off line a hard kick of the rudder is a HO.
Anything past the merge is fair game.... to those that want a fight, no it is not.
To me I have always loved this game because of the fight. After all these years I would have hope to be much better but I dont put in the time some other guys do, and after all "Practice makes perfect". It is the biggest reason I wont bother with jets in those other games.
To others, a HO is how they play the game. They are more interested in the kill count than the thrill of the fight. And there is nothing wrong with that, much the same as those that prefer the base grabs and win the war action. Its what make this game so much better than all the others..... options.

I still don’t understand how adding the arbitrary rule of “No HO” makes someone more inclined to enjoy/appreciate a fight.
It all depends on what your looking for in the game.
Your a pretty good stick. You seem to like to fight for the win. That doesnt mean you wont fire on a head on merge (HO) but I think you would rather not, to instead force your opponent into a position where they cant shot and you can.

I still don’t understand how adding the arbitrary rule of “No HO” makes someone more inclined to enjoy/appreciate a fight.
Many years ago in another game, it was just an unwritten rule that most of us were imprinted with the concept. Anyone can HO and get a kill,.... not everyone can fight their way to a win. When someone did HO on first merge, which was rare, they were shamed and painted as skill-less.
SO basically, an HO shows the fear of the fight they may otherwise lose. It's a skill-less act that's rewarded with a kill/points.

I agree. So what does one do? I’ve been back in the game several months now and rarely get a clean merge. The times I try to avoid the HO I get shot in the face. Good fights are rare (just like I remember). It seems to me HOing and picking is still the name of the game.

Once upon a time it was usually used by point mongers and people as bad as me. Today, even those who claim to be the best will resort to cheap tactics of the unskilled, many times as first resort,.....the point monger. Problem is, since I've been back it's become an epidemic. A few started HOing everyone so everyone else started using it in retaliation.
Now its to the point that if you don't nose in and fire, they will. Many are avoidable, to a degree. Today the first merge is always HO
One would think a good pilot with a lot of kills wouldn't need or use it, yet they capitalize on HO, bouncing and picking. That is NOT a great pilot, it's a dweeb.
Those skilled pilots who fight with honor and respect are diminishing.
When one pilot who plays with such disregard for anything but himself becomes the face of AH,... it's time to gut down vomit.

If a no Head On and/or no Front quarter shot fight is something one seeks it seems silly to me to expect it in a WW2 Air-combat sandbox. The DA would be a perfect place to find a like minded opponent and agree on a predetermined set of rules in which to compete within.
If I signed up for a Mixed Martial Arts fight I wouldn’t cry fowl because my opponent kicked me in the head, where as I only wanted to box. I would certainly be silly to claim it makes them less capable of a fighter.

I understand where you’re coming from, you’re not wrong
However, some of us were conditioned long ago that its a cheap way out. Superior lameness. Baby seals.
The diffetence in what you say and what we believe… we fly 10-20 min to find a fight, just for that time to be wasted with a face shot and zero acm fight.
Some of us don’t have a lot of time to fly. Several times the only 3 sorties I could fit in were HOed with zero fight. Its understandable why some pull the plug.
We’re better off without the HO epidemic than with it.

Summary;
"I can't avoid the easiest shot in the game to avoid and I can't avoid the absolute hardest shot for my opponent to make. So, naturally, I'm going to blame my opponent for sucking when they shoot me.
My opponent also generally flies the worst-turning aircraft in the game while I generally fly ones that turn better than him, so of course I'm going to blame him for not out-turning me, even though they routinely outturn me using one-circle fights that I initiate. You know, because I suck at one-circle fights (that's why I use them hahaha).
My opponent's K/D is > 8.0 with almost 500 kills, but that's only because they HO. That 50/50 chance of success works out for them > 89% of the time (as I assume they must be HOing 100% of the time), because they suck and that's how statistics work. Also I'm too dumb to realize the chance of someone winning a 50/50 gamble 89% of the time is < 0.4%.
Also, my K/D is less than 0.18, because my opponent sucks and is a noob."
That's the gist of it amirite?!

If your looking for Mixed Martial Arts fighting then you have to be prepared as a kick to the head is a valid tactic.
Playing a video game, anything goes, but as a player who looks for fights I fly a bit more on the "realistic" side. Sure they HOed in real life, but Im sure it was far fewer times than you see in the game. Why would a person gamble his life on a position where the enemy could kill him in anything other than desperation? In the old days thats the way we played it, we were all pretending to be WWII fighter pilots. Score and racking up kills wasn't important. Winning the fight was.

Well, you fit the brotherhood as much as those I’ve known for decades, a fine changing of the guards. You have the good attitude that there’s always bigger fish to fry. And I think that’s correct. People who suffer great losses have been humbled in how they view the world. They tend to not take things for granted and try to keep all things in good order.
Gaming has changed since I started. Its all about being “the God” , instead of preserving friends and keeping it healthy by playing with honor, being humble to those they percieve as lessor than them.
Today many grew up through divorce type things, way more so than in my time that has passed. The pain conditioned many to the concept that everything, everyone, is disposable. Then we have arrogant others where life has just not F-ed them YET, humble is undiscovered.
IMO, all of it, the closeness and family type club is right here. Take care of it. Water your plants, value your friends, its always good to make friends. Because a day WILL come when the list grows vacant.
The people I have met in this 3D sim world, no matter how competitive and disagree. We’ve been around each other for decades and guve a rats ars if hard times strike them. They are extended family. The hardest thing about getting old is watching everyone go before you.
I don’t get angry out of hatred, its more like smacking someone out of it as they grow irrational, the shock slap of reality.
One day after a long hiatus, I passed by and looked in the window. I saw old friends and acquaintances still sitting at the table chatting over coffee. Good memories flash by. So I joined them. I’ll get the coffee or drink. And then a green horn yells from the corner, “ shut it old man!”. We just pan around the table at each other and shake our heads. Think about this. When I/we started I was 28, I/we are now 65, we’ve made some memories good, bad, all now funny.
Like all generations, we try to give the younger the shortcut, instead of learning the hard way, like we did. Once in a while one gets it. The unfortunate part about life, there will always be the ones very bitter about life, everyone must be as angry as them.
The best line I can close with is… “…what we have here,… is FAILURE to communicate,…”
Think about this

If your looking for Mixed Martial Arts fighting then you have to be prepared as a kick to the head is a valid tactic.
Playing a video game, anything goes, but as a player who looks for fights I fly a bit more on the "realistic" side. Sure they HOed in real life, but Im sure it was far fewer times than you see in the game. Why would a person gamble his life on a position where the enemy could kill him in anything other than desperation? In the old days thats the way we played it, we were all pretending to be WWII fighter pilots. Score and racking up kills wasn't important. Winning the fight was.
:aok

If the majority tried to emulate WWII fighter pilots, this "game" would have died a long long time ago. Ego didn't take precedence over Mission in WWII... mostly.
