From my in-box- edited for content.  Makes me wish we could stay free forever.

-----------------------------------
Have you lost your mind?  $29 dollars a month to play online when a game as
simple as Red Baron blows your weak bellybutton game's online capability away?  You
are the most arrogant greedy f***ing company I have ever witnessed.

I hope your b**ch bellybutton company falls flat on its ass.  You are a prostitute
of the industry.  I wouldn't pay one red cent for your piece of s**t game.

Nah, no thanks, and by the way, dont forget to stop by <sender's name deleted> premeir site, <porno url deleted>.com to releive some stress that you shurely will incur
as your sales drop off the f***ing map.

Im well late on this reply, but heres my 2 cents
I LOVE AH,it rocks. I will gladly pay $29.95 per month. I can always stop if i dont like it anymore - but i doubt i will.
The price of a product/service 'is right' if you're prepared to pay that amount for it. If not, thats your choice.
Also,
I don't see the point to attack fallen personally and call him "naieve" and to discredit his philosophy and ideals. This is not constructive in any means. He's fully entitled to his beliefs. So dont come down on him and say his way and thoughts are wrong - who are you to judge?
If he wants to pay, he can, if not, who cares?

Keep up the most excellent game HT!

simple fix for HT to make "seriously" more money than 30$ / month and keep the whinners at any level (down to "gimme me 0$/month") happy as well. Give people historical planes for 30$ a month and then for every buck less substract 5 feet climbrate and 10 knots topspeed. And for every 50 $ / month per month more give the according egos let's say for max. 10 hours on-line time 10 knots more and 5 feet more.

to make it fair, the icon should include the amount paid per month.

and once you're @ it, why don't you stick credit car numbers of top payers into icons as well ;-))

my take: 30$ is not cheap but in the modern human history, talent needed to be forked some serious money over (well, after renaissance at least but anything done before was primarily dull painting of saints and bible scenes ;-) so I think I'll pay that or whatever will keep HT afloat and happy. Sneaking that by my wife is however a different story ;-)

In the hopes of further illuminating the value you recieve from your Aces High bill, I have compiled a short list of what entertainment you can buy these days with $30 U.S. dollars.  Also included is a judgement as to whether it or Aces High is the best value.  So, without further ado, here is the list:

  • 3/4's of a new boxed computer game.  This isn't the landslide in AH's favor that you might think, as boredome with boxed games sets in well before 3/4's of the game has been played.  Even so...  Best Value:  AH.
  • Cable TV for a month.  Hundreds of channels of jibberish compared to Aces High's single channel (radio channel 1) of gibberish.  Best value:  AH.
  • Dinner and a movie for you and er, well, nobody else.  Go to the movies alone and everyone will know that you are a geek.  Best Value:  AH.
  • A couple of tickets to your local theme park.  On roller coasters, the G's are real.  So is the nausea.  Best value:  AH.
  • A drink and a lap dance at your nearest :::coughs::: gentlemans club.  Fur balls or blue balls?  Do you really have to ask?  Best Value:  AH.
  • A ticket to a pro-sports contest.  Sporting events have become dangerous exhibitions of violence in modern society, leaving their players wounded and crippled after their playing years.  Even fans are at risk, primarily of giving themselves an embolism straining to focus on the players a mile away from these $40 nose-bleed seats.  Best Value:  AH.
  • Several good books.  Sorry, Hitech...  Best Value:  Barnesandnoble.com

To all,

If you were following the entire dialog between Westy and myself then you should realize that he had it coming.  Just look at his first response to my first post.  I think I made a valid point.  Hitech is not interested in having a few dedicated paying customers.  If you think that they are then you really don't know that much about business.  They are drooling at the prospect of having gobs (=goobs) of people shelling out $29.95/mo.  If you don't think so just ask.  But Westy seems to think that they just want a couple of ELITE pilots to fly their sim.  WRONG!  Again read my second post and Westy's response.  I'm pretty sure the name calling started on Westy's end.  I merely put him in his place.  If Hitech has to rely on a handful of paying customers then you will see one of the shortest run times for a pay to play sim ever.  It's not like I'm talking about higher math here.

On another topic.  If Hitech would allow private individuals to host games then it would cost Hitech no bandwidth.  This is the point I was hinting at in my comparison to Activision.  Just look at all of the private servers hosting Quake type games.  Does id have to pay for that?  No.  In all fairness to Hitech it is probably better from a business standpoint to have the game as pay to play as they stand to make much more money if it is successful.  Flight sims as a rule don't sell as well as other genres.

If I offended anyone other than Westy then I apologize.  In my opinion he came off as arrogant in his reply and I just thought he was due for some humbling by posting his scores.

Ifn ya aint willing to ante up, dont get in the game.

$30 is not cheap, but no one is twisting my arm when it comes time to do the subscription thing. People that have a probem with the announced fee can always do H2H with friends or spend that same amount to play FA and AW and still have some cash left over to buy Cheese to go with their.....

Westy: have I seen you on the FA newsgroup?

slugged: have I seen you on the FA newsgroup?

I've been following most of the AH bbs' since day 2 of the public beta and I don't remember such a slam-fest anywhere here.  Reminds me of the current state of the FA newsgroup (believe me, it's not a good thing).  Fortunately I've been at FA long enough to know that the idiots of FA are the vast minority of the community and also the most vocal on the newsgroup.  The majority of the FA community is not so bad.

You know, I did not intend to bring up FA so I will drop it.

I don't fly AH a ton, maybe only a few hours a week on average.  And I am far from a great flyer.  I like to have fun.  And I've flown enough to know that I like this game enough to pay 29.95/month.  What it is now and what the potential is as it evolves comes the closest to what I am looking for in online fun.

I LOVE this game!!  But I am only 15 and my parents already have to shell out $50 a month($600 a year) for ADSL access and I dont think they would want to pay another $30 a month just for a flight sim game that I will only be able to play on Fridays, weekends, and vacation time.  Also the fact that I'm in high school and thats another $400 a month.

Sorry HiTech.  Great game.  Best wishes from me.  I have a feeling that this game will gain in popularity and thus create a larger customer base in the coming months.

Oh to be young again!  Get a regular ISP and it will more than pay for both!
On the other hand, your local grocery store needs folks to bag groceries.  Work a day or two a week....viola.....you can pay it yourself!  If you want to play......make the effort to get it!  We all have the same issues!  Some of us have larger issues!
